I have a fully planted native garden with some lawn. No pesticides are ever used. I have provisions for butterflies and all kinds of pollinators, awa other forms of wildlife. I attract chipmunks, squirrels, turkeys, and all kinds of other birds, awa hummers. I'm lucky enough to live near a naturally planted area😊

I'd plant my whole yard with native plants, if I had a yard at all

I do not understand the appeal of a grass lawn, for me it is a very depressing thing to look at. I’d much prefer native flowers, grasses and shrubs.

Can always do guerrilla gardening for native plants and such.

I once walked past a crab apple tree in full bloom and noticed that the homeowners had hung what looked like Christmas tree ornaments on it, which I thought weird for May. I was dismayed to learn that those ornaments contain insect repellent. Apparently they didn't want the tree to attract bees.

If it makes you feel any better, your comment informs me that a crabapple tree given to me and planted in my yard may just help out the bees, which is really exciting. I won’t be putting anything on to deter them of course :)

@@Emiliapocalypse Blossoming crabapple trees are great for pollinators and the fruit they produce for other wildlife such as birds. I have a variety that retains its apples through the winter and serve as a valuable food source for birds in the early spring. Robins love them. It's a lot of fun just to watch all the different creatures who show up.

West Des Moines, Iowa forced me to mow my yard! I objected the case and the judge didn't even care to consider the destruction and killing of the insects in my yard. I cried for the loss of my little own biodiversity spot on this planet I was trying to protect.

My land is better than when I acquired it. But the insects mums are way down except invasives. We also scattered native seeds on the land near mine and butterfly nums increased greatly. But now new homes are being built. And when I asked one owner if they would leave a bit standing they scrapped it clear with a dozer and planted grass.

In the UK I remember driving during summer and having loads of splattered insects on my windscreen, nowadays hardly any. Crop spraying is the real issue.

Voiceover is excessively poetic. And the random factoids, library footage... Sloooowww presentation. All comes together as dismal TV production values stripping out actionable knowledge, so called info-tainment. Basically 90pc wasted time.
