Hi you! It looks like KZbin is making it difficult for our viewers to find this episode, it's not showing up in search results etc. Would you mind interacting with the video, and leave a comment so we know you did?

It's fun to watch a restoration from the very start like this. Thanks to June Harrison for supporting by financing not only by bringing an old wooden boat back to life but also by providing work for those who like nothing more than mucking about on boats in major wood-working ways of old and new.

We're so grateful to have these kinds of owners that are willing to save what's left of our nautical heritage. Glad to have you onboard!

I'm glad I just found this one. I watched the Western Flyer and am gonna have to check out the Coastal Queen. If you haven't already may I suggest Tally Ho at Sampson Boat Co. Also Acorn to Arabella

well I guess this project will keep a lot of old men from getting into trouble. I was on the boat back in the early 80's and it was rotten then. I;m surprised it was still floating today. Good luck. I hope you are rich!

Thank you! The client is set on getting her rebuilt and the crew is delivering 💪

There are a lot of similarities between maritime words in English and Dutch. Kat in old Dutch maritime terms is a small anchor. And we also have the katbalk, translated : cat beam. Which is the same beam as mentioned here.
@FavouriteBoatworks9 ай бұрын
Is there any traces in the Dutch terminology as to why it’s associated with the word cat?
@Deanmachine6679 ай бұрын
Very interesting witnessing the attempts to gather and restore a dying culture so rich with knowledge and lore.
@henkgertlenten9 ай бұрын
@@FavouriteBoatworks Katrol means pulley, Katten means to hoist the anchor without hitting the hull . And more words like this. It’s not sure if that is actually connected to the animal. We have an etymological bank for all these words, very interesting but in Dutch..there are something like 1500 Dutch words in the English language, Al lot of them came from the maritime period in the 17th century.

I think that copper sheathing below the waterline is why her hull is still sound despite the advanced decay everywhere else. What a boat!

There's a lot hiding underneath that sheathing, copper is soon coming off!

Great vid thanks guys I saw this ship around 1988 1990 on the west coast
@FavouriteBoatworks10 ай бұрын
Thank you! Where on the coast did you see her?
@jetson32810 ай бұрын
Hi I saw her at Fishermans wharf in Victoria she was tied off from the stern to land and an anchor out in front next to the wharfs. I believe she was painted white then? I never forgot her as she was a big ship and Herchel Island was written I guess beside or under North Star, just a ship I never forgot I could be off a bit with the dates that I saw her but in the late 80s or early 90s@@FavouriteBoatworks
@FavouriteBoatworks10 ай бұрын
@@jetson328 Yes she was painted white before! Have you watched episode 1? Lots of historical photos in that episode of her as she changed throughout the years.
@jetson32810 ай бұрын
@@FavouriteBoatworks yes thanks I have watched them all so far. How long do you anticipate the restoration will take about 2 years?
@FavouriteBoatworks10 ай бұрын
Yes around 1.5 - 2 years should have her completed and back in the water@@jetson328

Good lord, is it really worth it to renovate this beast? The deck, engine room and so much more seems like you will have to rebuild from scratch......It will be interesting to see what kind of shape the hull is in.
@FavouriteBoatworks10 ай бұрын
It’s more of a rebuild than a renovation at the state she’s in.

Old ship that hasn't had any major repairs done in a very long time, she was due for a refit.

Is the plans for the Northstar to rebuild it as a museum ship or to bring it back to its former glory to be used ?
@FavouriteBoatworks9 ай бұрын
The owner has plans to sail North Star again and likely at a later date donate the ship to the BC maritime museum.

KZbin's stupid rules could mean having the radio/music playing in the backgound as being a violation. You might need to check. Otherwise great content!!
@FavouriteBoatworks10 ай бұрын
Thank you for your concern! KZbin scans the videos on upload for any copyright infringement, it should be in the clear!
@2nickles64710 ай бұрын
I don't think it's stupid. The musicians needs to be paid for the royalties. Instead of KZbin creators playing music and not paying royalties. Many creators don't allow their videos to be used by others. It's no different. Suppose you created something and it Took off. Would you cry Foul?
