You're asking the wrong question! The mirror doesn't know that there's an egg behind the paper, but you do based on your perspective.

🤔 so I think most of us get that, but in the same token, it's still hiding behind the paper and yeah, we can say photons and things are reflecting, blah blah blah but it's just like the double slit experiment. If nobody's looking at it as they're shooting the laserbeam through it doesn't exist. It doesn't hit. It's not there. This is just really one of those weird things. It really is.

How come when I take my glasses off and look only inches from the mirror, everything's just as blurry as it normally is far away?

That IS your vision, after a few seconds your brain just adapts and 'uprenders' the image so you feel that you can see almost normally. But the moment your glasses come off, that is your real vision without quality enhancement done by the brain. Scary, yeah? I know.
