I tried to make it clear that it’s not a bad tool per se, I’d just choose differently based on my needs. I tried to be as fair as possible, and it does do a few things really well. Anyone that gets one to clear a driveway or something big though, I think it’ll be a disappointment. If you get one, let me know how you like it and if I’m wrong in my video.

If you use it to replace a snow blower, you're right. It's a bad idea. It's supposed to replace areas you'd shovel. Lifting wet show with a shovel is 10 times worse than using an electric shovel. Keeping it in your car during the winter is also better than a shovel in case you're stuck. This is a very good product.

You said to comment if we disagree lol. Well, i disagree and here is why. Ill give an example. I went out and purchased a 450 dollar lawn mower. Super fancy. Auto start. Easy start. Self propelled. Bagger, mulcher, side shooter option and even has connector to connect your hose to rinse the bottom when you are done... But my yard is absolutely tiny, and there are 3 massive trees in the middle of it. My mower is a nighmare to stop, pull it back, go around the trees etc. I would have been a million times better buying the cheapest smallest lightest push mower from wallmart or whatever. So what do I do now? I use my trimmer to cut my yard. Front and back 😂😂😂. With that being said, if you purchased this thiny thing to clear snow from a football field, of course, you will hate it. But if you have a tiny 2 car driveway and short walkway... well, there is no way you should spend hundreds or thousands on a super tough professional grade mamoth of a machine because it will ultimately just make your life harder and you will find yourself pulling out the shovel instead lol. I think this unit would work absolutely perfect for me!

I have the Ego power shovel and love it. I also have the Ego 2 stage but there are times or places (deck) where this tool is the perfect fit. I do the large open spaces with the 2 stage then use the same battery with the power shovel to cleanup or do tighter spaces or my deck. I hate shoveling and to me this is a good example of making a specific job easier by having the right tool. Yes it is a lot heavier than I thought but to me it is worth it.

When using a shovel we tend to get high banks wherever we stop shoveling. This tool eliminates those banks because it moves snow farther. The banks increase drifts in subsequent storms. So this tool helps make future snowfalls easier to manage.

I’m in west Tennessee, a snowblower would be overkill but this would fit my needs well. We may get four inches of snow on our slightly sloped driveway. I can pretty well count on the sun to clear the rest.

I think you nailed it Bruce. Tennessee is one of those fringe states that might get snow but might not. My Minnesota bias is to go overkill for those big dumps, but this tool will be perfect for you. Plus the power head system can be used with different attachments all year long.

Actually based on this review I might buy one. I need it for a small porch and deck and I cant drag the snowblower up the stairs if it's more than a couple of inches of snow.. But it seems it's quite a powerful little device that doesn't take more storage space than a shovel.

All your points are valid. Very fair review. But I still love mine. I got the Ryobi 40V version. That one actually has little wheels that make dragging it back much easier than most. In my case, I have a driveway that fits 5 cars side by side, but is only 1 car deep. Because of the house on one side and the neighbors on each side, the only place I can throw my snow is on a pile in front of the driveway. I don't need a blower that propels the snow super far and I don't have space to store a snow blower unused for 9 months. The cordless snow shovel is small enough it fits in a corner and i can take it out as needed in winter. It saved my back. Much easier than shoveling snow manually. I've done snow of 30cm with it. I've done the compacted stuff dumped by the city plows. I've done super heavy wet melting snow. In my case, the shovel has been amazing. It fits my needs and my situation perfectly. It's also much cheaper than having someone plow my driveway. All that to say, I agree with all your points, and there are still situations where these shovels make sense. Considering the number of people who stop to ask about mine when im using it, I'm guessing a lot of people are looking for something smaller than a snow blower, but easier on the back that manual shoveling.

Thank you for this comment. I am a northern state raised person now living in the south and myself and a couple of others from the north end up dealing with the snow that we do get. In a condo situation or public sidewalk situation there is a liability issue we cannot ignore. We have a neighbor who did not bother to clear the sidewalk and had a person slip, they now have a lawsuit. I have a sidewalk and downward sloping drive into an underground garage and a gate area to maintain. I have a ice breaker, metal snow shovel, metal lift shovel and good stiff broom for the last step. Since I grew up doing this I do okay and then help others but it does take some time. On the sidewalk I clear it and take good photos to protect us legally. Scattered ice melt helps some but only worked correctly this past season on day two, eventually the snow won out as it runs off the angled surface. I have played with using a weed torch but this seems like a good option and it is small enough for me to store. The leaf blower does an average job and the noise is not good since I cannot get to this until late evening. Currently there is not persons to hire to do the work as few have the equipment. It takes the city days to deal with the downtown roads.

You might be a use case where it would be the perfect tool. These products aren’t total junk, I made my video as a warning to people that are really expecting a heavy duty snow removal tool. They do have a purpose, it’s just more of a niche product than a “one size fits all this thing rocks” product.

Fair review, but I do love mine. I'm 6'5" beefy, so the size/weight doesn't bother me, but it is heavy. I was hoping to use it on the stairs, but it's a bit unwieldy for that. But if you have long cuts on a deck, it's pretty badass. The power is incredible. I'm in the Sierra Nevada, so we do get real snow. It's been through the tests here. I have this product, the 21" 2stage, the 24" 2stage, and now the 28" 2stage in addition to my Ariens Mammoth. Yea, it got 4 snowblowers, I know.

I have the 2 stage EGO snowblower to supplement my 60” plow on my 4 wheeler when I run out of room to push the snow. I have this EGO power shovel to take care of my decks, steps, and sometimes sidewalk as it’s quick and easy to just snap on a battery and save back breaking shoveling. If someone plans on buying this and thinks they’ll use it for regular snowblowing large areas, it’s going to be slightly less helpful than pushing a single stage electric snowblower. There is no One-Tool-Fits-All. I have the shoulder strap for the multi-head that works fine for me to “shoulder” the weight 😗 so work smarter, not harder.

I bought this aware it is heavier than some other alternatives. The one reason is storage space, a stage 1 snow blower is to large for the amount of snow we get in a 1 mth period BUT i dont want to shovel it. I have two other EGO units the hedge trimer and the leaf blower and will by the extension pruner. I did not see sense buying another option and now have two battery options, just pick one and stick w it. Not cheap in Canada but came w battery and charger for 500 w tax, basically $350 us. Bought this past week because come the snow they are all gone and last year one session took 2.5hrs to clear snow manually and i was definitely sore day following

Hey, I have ten concrete steps in my front yard that is not possible to do with a larger 2 stage blower. I can do the steps and the lower side walk with this power shovel vs hand shoveling. Win win for me. My plan of attack is the 28 inch two stage and the power shovel I also have a very difficult driveway. Everything needs to go one way. 28 inch should take care that! My ryobi unit was a godsend. I already had a 40v attachment capable string trimmer, which I got in a holiday sale with a blower for 199. So now that i had a seperate tool i was ALREADY using for a different puprose, buying the ryobi snow shovel attachment for 99 dollars was a no brainer. You know what didnt hurt after clearing snow in my NY winter? My back. I didnt have to lift anything. All my work was in my arms. And why id buy one full price for 279 as a kit, over a single stage snow blower, is this doesnt jam up with heavy wet snow. Its a 1 to 1 what its picking up is what its flinging and theres no long chute to push snow through. Ive cleared my driveway with the power shovel when my neighbor was pulling out the regular shovel because the snowthrower was constantly clogged. Plus for 800ish bucks theyre not even self propelled so you have to break your back pushing it through an 18 inch wide path. Literally your only listed negative isnt even a negative, theyre meant to be dragged, its why they have skid shoes

I’m looking for something to supplement my big Ariens. Something that I can do our large wood deck with, and clean up behind the Ariens, by scraping the ground, the 1/8” the big gas blower leaves behind. I don’t wanna buy another push behind, I postulate a single stage design will work better with slushy snow given it’s sling it out design. I’m looking at this ego based simply on brand reputation, do you think this is a good fit for those needs?

Hey Randy, thanks for the comment. I do think it would be a good supplemental snow removal product to have. You already have the big dog Ariens to handle the heavy duty snow, a power shovel could be a nice add on. They do work well on decks too where even a single stage blower might be a little tricky to maneuver. Do you already own EGO tools? If you are already part of the ecosystem with batteries, then it’s a no brainier. With all electric tools, pick a brand and stay with it so that you always have a lot of batteries on hand. Read the other comment about the guy with Ryobi, he really likes his. Wait until you hear about vacuums and how you have to drag them backwards after each time you push it forwards... ;) I own it, love it - it's perfect for my back patio, the half of my front porch that gets snowed on, my walk up to my front door, and for quickly touching up my driveway/sidewalk when more snow has fallen after my initial shoveling (or when there's only a light snowfall). My 2-stage blower is overkill and too cumbersome in those situations. If this use case doesn't fit someone else's, by all means do not buy this. But it is incredibly handy. One thing I find myself doing is going up and down my driveway and sidewalk in a snake pattern so that I'm not constantly dragging it backwards. That way my movement is constantly pushing it forward and there are no wasted movements (i.e., pushing or pulling the power shovel when it's not throwing snow). I'll usually need to adjust the throwing angle on most turns, but that's a 3 second process. I liken it to my small cordless Dyson vacuum. It stays charging on my wall and I grab it when I need to vacuum up a little mess or do a quick once-over on my hard wood floors. That way I'm not lugging my larger, heavier corded Dyson around the house for light jobs. Great video - cheers!

Oh dude, you’ll be fine. There are use cases where these things are really awesome. Decks and sidewalks can be great as many commenters have suggested. You already have the beast mode snowblower, so you already have batteries. If you are doing a deck, take time in the fall to flush set any screws or nails that might be sticking up. The baseplate will catch on them and break, ask me how I know! I have it linked in Amazon in my video description but check pricing at Ace hardware too, they sometimes beat out Amazon if they have deals.

This is not for clearing your driveway, it's for clearing your walkway or deck. It's good if you live in an apartment or townhouse and need something smaller than a snowblower, and for places you couldn't get a snow blower like second story decks. I have a gas powered 2 stage snowblower that I use for the driveway and such, but I also have the little, inexpensive Ryobi cordless snow shovel that I use for between the cars, the back porch, and walkways. Yes, it's heavy, but not heavier than a shovel full of wet snow. It uses the same batteries as my other Ryobi tools, and I got in on sale at home depot for under $120. Also I got a rebate from my electric company for $100.

It does okay. Sometimes it’s hard to maneuver and get the stair cleared 100% but in all fairness it does pretty good. Keep in mind that for stairs the weight is more of a factor because you have to lift the thing more rather than slide it like a sidewalk.

I saw your video comparing this with the bristle brush attachment. Would you say the brush was easier to handle (weight) wise and maneuver than the shovel attachment

So weight wise, they feel similar but the biggest difference is that the brush never leaves the ground while I’m using it. Once the brush is spinning, I’m just moving it around on the ground and it’s similar to vacuuming. The nice part is that the brush is always spinning the same direction, throwing the snow out in front. That means that back dragging over semi cleared areas isn’t a problem whereas the power shovel will accumulate snow on the back edge when being dragged backwards. The brush really does a phenomenal job of getting ALL the snow and I use it for cleanup even on my driveway after my snowblower. Nothing is perfectly flat and there’s always a little residual snow and the brush just cleans up EVERYTHING! The ONLY limitation you need to be aware of is that when that snow gets deep or if it’s really wet, the brush starts to struggle HARD. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

I have the same EGO shovel and yes it is heavy for a driveway use but I have a 28" 2-stage snow blower for that job. This unit was to be portable for the main and second floor balconies. Does it work well? No! Because the balconies have a joined walls where the 45 degree angle still cause the snow to hit the walls and not out of the balconies and it also crap the asphalt floor on the second floor balcony while not able to eject the snow over the balcony railings without hitting the railings first that stops the snow escaping. I was almost going to buy the new EGO SNT2130 single stage snow blower with skid shoes just to keep it on the second floor balcony but stumbled onto the Garant 62V cordless snow shovel. It has a 1939 "Monster" turbine snow blower train design (still in service & used once a decay) using a 62V 4.0Ah USB-A port build-in battery with hand 4 height adjustable vertical angle & 180 degree horizontal rotation chute while also has a set of height adjustable skid shoes all at 5 Lb less weight at the head of the snow shovel with 5 year warranty. This unit will allow the shovel to clear snow right against the wall while throwing snow 90 degree off the balcony railings without scratching the surface of the floor at ~16 Lb weight with included shoulder strap. I have added a Darwin Gripe 5.0 so it will be much more ergonomically to my back during operation. Not sure this product is available in US or internationally as it is a Canadian invention from the snowy city of Montreal and sold in RONA; however, the red color battery & charger design & shape looks identical but in green to the US Green Machine sold in Home Depot.

You’re going to love it for that. Make sure you look at the EGO one like in the video because it does have an adjustable chute to direct the snow and not all of them do. You’ll want that adjustability for doing decks. I have a link to the tool I’m using in the video description and then use amazons compare feature to look at a few. What kind of tractor do you have? Tractor on a deck would make for an entertaining video, haha.

I have a two stage snow blower, but have many areas that I simply can't use a large, 24" snowblower for. There's the two paths from the main road to our house. We park two cars close to each area and there's no way we could put a large snowblower in between. Small paved areas are perfect for a power shovel. I have a ton of ego products already and I have the power head too (with the pole saw). I've seen these going for $159 at Lowes. The season is close to over, so I might wait for a black Friday deal, but if I can get it for $99, I'll definitely buy it.

As many commenters pointed out, there are great applications for these. I approached the video from a “could this be your one and only snow removal tool?” And I think clearing a driveway would be miserable. But they work great at certain things like you said. You won’t be disappointed as long as you know what you’re getting going in.

Actually, they are really good for clearing areas that aren't suitable for a snow blower. I use a Toro snow shovel for clearing my deck (access only through the house) and my back patio (no sidewalk access to it). For generally snow removal, yeah, a snow blower is the way to go. But these are really great for the areas you just can't get a snow blower to. I also agree that they are expensive, but they do save your back when having to shovel by hand and have to toss the snow over the railing of a deck. So, I wouldn't say don't get one but understand what the tool is designed to do. I watched your video because I just got an Ego snow blower and I'm thinking of the Ego snow shovel because my Toro shovel uses an extension cord which gets really annoying and you can't direct where the snow is thrown. It always blows back into my face because of the wind. It'd be nice to be able to not be tethered to an extension cord and to be able to direct where the snow is thrown. But there is that sticker price. Just stuff to think about.

I don't know. I have a patio in the back and a walkway down to the street from my front door. It is not the easiest thing to get my full size blower to these places. This seems like a good alternative. What am I missing? I'm going to make a guess that it's not intended to replace a full size blower rather than to supplement it. In other cases, it might be what someone would want with smaller areas to clear. I have other EGO stuff including the 52" Zero Turn. I will confirm that this tech is pretty much meant for light/medium duty in the grand scheme of things. But it does a nice job under a reasonable workload....homeowner stuff.

When I made the video I approached the tool as a jack of all trades and still stand by my original conclusion that it isn’t. HOWEVER, it is a good tool and it’s great at the specialty tasks you mentioned. It’s a really solid supplement to a snowblower, but definitely isn’t a replacement for a snowblower. You’re already familiar EGO being a leader in the homeowner space and you won’t be disappointed by this attachment, it’s everything you’d expect and represented in the video. When I made the video I approached the tool as a jack of all trades and still stand by my original conclusion that it isn’t. HOWEVER, it is a good tool and it’s great at the specialty tasks you mentioned. It’s a really solid supplement to a snowblower, but definitely isn’t a replacement for a snowblower. I bought one of these and I completely agree, the thing is heavy. However, it is a good tool for getting snow off of my deck area, where I can't my 200lb, 26" snowblower. The nylon plastic scraper blade and auger don't tear up the deck like a full size snowblower would. I have a few other EGO tools so it also made sense to go with the same battery lineup.

If you came because of the clickbait title here are the direct quotes you'll be interested in: "I thought that was going to be the shortcoming of the product but boy was I mistaken. Pretty solid summary! A lot of viewers really liked these for doing decks, and I think I have to agree. They definitely have their place, but I don’t think it’s a good solution for driveways or large open spaces.

The use case is limited but under the right circumstances, these things rule. If you need something to throw snow you can easily haul around in a car (like for doing property management) this thing is awesome, especially if you already have the multi-head unit.

If you can afford Both - get both. I have a Gas 2 Stage and I cleared 30 inch deep snow with it. But there are spaces and times when the convenience and effectiveness of this Bat powered Ego makes a lot of sense. Narrow walkways, porches, landings, between your Car and the lawn, Between cars, When its an ANNOYING amount of snow that will probably melt that is not really worthy of a 2 stage but you don’t feel like shoveling a path out to the car or down the walkway, digging your way out to the shed to get the 2 Stage because you couldn’t or forgot to put in the attached garage before a snow storm, etc etc etc If you already have any Ego products, and any of the above mentioned conditions, then its a no brainer. Plus Ego makes rugged and powderful stuff. BONUS TIP!!!!!! = If you also have the EGO Blower and you get Powder Snow you can clear your pathways and Cars with it. Ive done it.

Good review !! I wonder if its motor is brushless, they likely charge all the more $ for that feature too. For those smaller 1-4" light snowfalls, i use my large backpack leaf blower. Works and it's fun too. Even blows off the vehicles, walkways, porches, decks, etc. Easy on the back since there's none of that back breaking "shoveling-lifting" motion. 👍

I am surprised this reviewer is talking about the weight as a significant drawback. In my view, a lightweight device would be functionally worthless as the power shovel would try to ride the snow instead of throwing the snow. I see now problem with pulling the unit on the surface to start the next removal.

Great point Larry. The product is marketed as a “shovel” and in my review I thought it would be important to note that it doesn’t really function like a shovel as much as a mini snow blower. Our plan is to get one for our back deck and since it is treated wood we hoped to find a review of using it for such. We certainly did not want to get one if it would damage the wood. What is your take on using it on treated wood?

Honestly I think you’ll be fine. The auger is plastic and the housing is also plastic so no sharp metal to scrape and scratch the wood. Wear and tear wise, it would be no different than shoveling. Take some time this fall to counter sink any nail or screw heads that aren’t flush. The base plate is plastic and it can get hung up on a protruding screw head and crack it. I have a link for the exact EGO product I used in the video description. Lots of comments are saying they love these for decks and I can’t argue with that. Cheers!

I recently went to my local Ace Hardware and saw they had the Ego power shovel on display (without a battery in it) and wow, it noticed the serious weight to this thing. I can't imagine using this thing for an extended period of time due to the weight. I think I will be selecting something lighter for my deck.

The weight is surprising but keep in mind you are sliding it around more so than lifting it up and down. The tough part is that most of these power shovels are pretty heavy. I know the toro one is a beast too. Hopefully you find something that works for you!

I've had my Ego Power Shovel for this past winter season and I like it. Your comment on the weight is spot-on. That would be my only criticism. It works better than expected. I also have an Ego single-stage snowblower. The power shovel is great for the porch/deck and for the back patio where there isn't really an outside path to it in the winter. Also, if I want to drive somewhere to help clear snow, the power shovel is easy to transport. I have put my single stage Ego in my Chevy Volt, but that's a bit of a chore. I plan to trade up from Ego single to two-stage, and no way that would go in my Volt. It works for the right applications but - yes - the weight.

@@jay1685 If you're thinking of a snowblower, then I wouldn't get just the power shovel. Unless you only have a walkway and a deck to clear, you'll need more than the power shovel. Well, I suppose I'd prefer clearing my two car driveway with the power shovel than by hand, but if you get more than a dusting of snow, it wouldn't work for the snowplow pile and the end of the drive. I'd say get a snowblower if you want one, and add a power shovel if you have the applications I mentioned for it and don't mind spending the money. It isn't a snowblower replacement.

It’s not awful for decks, as many commenters have pointed out. Steps would be a little tedious, you can do it but hand shovels are really maneuverable and are better for detail work like stairs. It’s worth saying again, it’s not a bad tool. Well made, works great, and if you already have EGO batteries and the powerhead then give it a try.

I prefer plastic and composite for manual snow shovels and usually to do my deck I just grab the old fashion shovel rather than the EGO. The old school shovel is just faster and easier.

You're looking at the amount of work you get out of something with an additional 3-inch bed. Someone else might have space constraints with regards to storage. The shovel you can hang on a wall. The 1st stage blower you need floor space.

The problem with those poorly designed handles is that as you can see in your own video your back is bent over the entire time. Snow Joe puts the battery underneath so you grab the end of the stick not the middle where your back has to bend over

I just stumbled upon this Ego shovel. I have researched several others and was ready to pull the trigger for the Toro battery powered shovel. This one is 3 pounds lighter. It also has a directional output deflector. I plan on this plus an additional Toro electric shovel.For steps and tough areas I have to shovel. The electric only weighs 13lbs. Having both types would make my shoveling easier I hope..

I live in a dense area and just have a short driveway and some sidewalk, I'm not very strong and I don't think I'd be able to manage a real snowblower, I definitely would have a tough time storing it, and I have 3 other ego things already. Supposedly the shoulder strap helps with the weight but I haven't worked out the placement or something.

I tried to give the viewer all the information about what the tool is good at and I wanted to front load all that info because most people don’t watch full videos all the way to the end. Here’s where it makes sense - no garage for a snow blower, stairs so even an electric one that you *can* lift is too much hassle, and not wanting or being able to use a manual shovel. But this one? Ugh. I’m not sure if you need to be really tall or really short for it to be a decent angle, but it’s not for an average height. The pole part is about a foot too long. This is a complaint for most of the ego power head stuff aside from pole saws and so on where it’s an advantage. As you note, it’s too heavy, especially with the awkwardly placed battery. The controls are a pain in the ass if you’re wearing gloves (the new carbon fiber power head fixes that part, at least). My major complaint is that it needs adjustable skids or better yet, wheels. Even in your video I can see it catching on concrete seams that appear to be very smooth and level, and you had the issue with gravel. Try it on an old sidewalk, an uneven old driveway, or gravel, and it catches on absolutely everything. It also can’t handle thick ice. Footprints from the day before that softened and refroze? Forget about it. Put a couple wheels on it you can adjust to raise it 1/4-1/2 inch, and it would work much better in non-ideal conditions. Make it 4-6 inches wider and it would even be good. Thinking of it as a shovel is ridiculous, that’s just a weird name someone picked for marketing when the things first got on the market. It’s a minimalist snow blower/thrower. Electric snow blowers (I have the first ego model, not the two stage auger thing) aren’t heavy enough to force under much ice, and the plastic scraper blades can’t handle it anyway. With design tweaks, these things would be a much better alternative to a heavy gas blower than a battery powered snowblower lookalike. This one in particular, though? It’s going back to the store.

Your video confuses me. You raved about it for most the video. Then said it’s heavy and you have to drag it back. The thing is, despite it being named a shovel anyone and everyone sees and understands that it very obviously is not a shovel. It’s a small scale cordless snow blower. For smaller snowfalls and tight spaces like decks, patios etc. Your frustration with its weight is squarely rooted in your belief it should be light weight like a shovel - merely because of the name.However, again, despite the name, everything about it tells you it is in fact not at all a shovel. The salient point is, your gripe about its weight is unfair and misguided. Then at the end of the video you drag how horrible it is and make an impassioned plea not to buy one. Frankly, it looked like it did a kick ass job on your patio. Where it looks poor is in the grass and in a gravel driveway. Take a $3,000 Husquvarna or Airens snowblower across the gravel or a lawn and it too will look not great because you’re not on pavement. Your benchmarking for all this is off.

This tool is very good at specific tasks but my video was aimed at snow removal in general and it does have some shortcomings. Decks and stairs are what it really excels at, and larger areas are where it really falls apart. It’s not a jack of all trades, rather it’s a master of one. And a traditional snow blower will have a height adjustment for the skid shoes making them more versatile for gravel. It’s a quality tool but don’t expect it to do everything well.

I bought one for 3-4 inches or less. BOTTOM line is this now shovel is MORE effort, more work, longer time than a plastic shovel. Again more effort with this. I returned it. I love all of my EGO products though. blower, trimmer, hedge trimmer. This one needs wheels, and a handle to direct snow. This slows you down. A plastic shovel vs this and the shovel wins every time.

I’ve come to like it for very specific things. Lots of people like them for decks where there’s generally a railing that you have to lift the snow up and over. If you have the power head already, check out the bristle broom attachment. I really like mine for light dusting and cleaning up after the snowblower. I have the toro and i dont know how you can compare it to the cheapo brands you did. None the less, if only they had away to aim the chute. So you can just push and drag straight, but you cant. You have to have a slight angle or your blowing snow over what you already cleaned. And that is my only complaint. 60v battery bought a second one. They charge in about 35min. So never run out along as go inside a swap on the charger. I can do a 4 car driveway plus sidewalks in under an hour of deep snow. Like 1012 inches. It usually doesnt even pay to get the snow blower out and gased up. Looks half done by then. It could be done alot faster but i take my time since covid messed up my lungs. Anyway the glide plate on the bottom of 5he Toro is recommended to be replaced after 20 hours of use. Which is like two years of clearing the driveway without another machine or shovel assisting just doing 100% of the snow removal which is not what they are made for and i doubt the cheap ones could even handle it for more than one year... but ya if had more room or didnt need to backdrag my entire driveway it would no doubt be faster 5o use the snow blower .but since out all has to be blown in one direction anyway it takes about the same time as waiting to reverse because you cant put the chute 180 to the back

Just got this a week ago, and had my first chance to try it out this morning (we got ~3" of snow overnight). I live in Northern Virginia, where we don't get a ton of snow, and I don't have a huge driveway, so I've been reluctant to get a full-fledged snow blower. Well, my first reaction is just like you - really impressed with how well it throws the snow...but man is it heavy and awkward to move around. Besides the weight, there's the fact that it sticks out behind you (because you're essentially putting a snow thrower on a weed eater body). So maneuvering in between the cars on the driveway was awkward. Now, I have other Ego products (weedeater, edger and leaf blower), and I've enjoyed them all. They sell a backpack thing that allows you to mount the battery to that, and then just connect to the tool via cord. Maybe that will lighten it up a bit. I dunno...I need to think about whether it's worthwhile for me to keep.

I'm pretty interested in buying one of these, and your observations do encourage (!) me to get one. Here's the situation: *a)* My house has a detached garage. There's *plenty* of room in the garage for multiple snowblowers, but first I have to get to the garage and open it before I could use a snowblower in there. I could put this snow shovel in the stairway in the back of my house, and use it to clear a path to the garage. I cannot fit a standard snowblower into that stairway. _(note: my house is a 100-year-old house)_ *b)* There's a porch across the front of my house, then a narrow path, then a tall hedge across the entire front. The mailman needs to get to the porch to deliver the mail. A *very* small single-stage snowblower can just barely fit on that path, but it doesn't work well. It's almost always true that I use a standard shovel to clear the snow from that path. *c)* One small section of my driveway has a definite slope to it to make sure all rain water drains away from the garage. There's about 20-30 square feet there which I do need to remove the snow from, but where it's a real hassle trying to use a full-size snowblower - especially if the driveway is a bit slippery. I suspect that section will be easier to clear off with this snow shovel. However I do realize that I might be wrong about that! This is another section that I sometimes clear off with a plain shovel just because it's too much of a hassle to clear it with a standard snowblower. *d)* In case it's not obvious from the above descriptions: I would be buying this *in addition* to a standard snowblower (which I already own two of), not *instead* of one. Thanks for watching and engaging with a comment. Read through the whole comments section because people have come up with some great one-off use cases that these tools would be perfect for. It can be a good compliment to other snow removal tools and it seems like you totally get that idea. One thing is clear, it is a quality tool. The thing freaking rips, as shown in the video. My hope was to highlight some shortcomings so everybody knew what they were getting into, not to discourage people from buying them.

@@suburbanacreage - This video was helpful because you made it clear that this snow broom does an excellent job, even though the job it does is pretty pointless *for you.* And the video shows how it worked in several situations, which means we could see it in action for ourselves. This is a bit more believable than a video which says "This device is so great that every person who deals with snow should run out and buy one!".

if you have the powerhead system already and want it for your deck or need some kind of snowblower, but have extremely limited storage space, this seems like a good option.

I use this on my metal roof. Works fine if I don't let the snow build up too deep. I have many Ego products and several batteries. They all work as advertised. But their customer service people are just stupid.

Is it just me or was anyone else waiting for a punch line? I would think that the purpose of this machine is for people who don’t have a gravel driveway, like the versatility and space efficiency of the power head to convert to various tools and taking up less space than a snow blower, and want something more convenient than a standard shovel. This review seemed to attempt to create the worst possible review for whatever reason. The fact that it is designed to throw snow would lead most people to not expect to carry it around like a standard shovel and to use it more like…a snow blower…which of course you wouldn’t be able to lift and carry around either. It has a snow diverter to throw snow left, right, or straight, with the idea that when you make a pass in one direction, you turn the shovel to the next unshoveled section, turn the diverter and go the other direction…no need to lift the unit; the same concept as a snow blower. Also, when taking about its lackluster performance, this review shows a path shoveled in the grass. Seriously? I would think that the majority of people buying this product would have asphalt or concrete driveways and sidewalks to clear. Although I am interested in this product, I’m not an owner of it and have just started my research, but seriously - from the few reviews I’ve seen so far that point out its pros and cons, this review is a joke.

It's not a terrible product per se, it's just more of a specialty thing vs a jack of all trades. Most reviews will mention the weight and If you buy one, as soon as you pick it up you'll think of me, haha. Keep in mind that EGO does do influencer marketing and other reviews might be paid for by the brand. I bought my tool myself, paid full price, no sponorship by the brand(clearly), so just keep that in mind too. Do NOT buy a power shovel of any brand!!!! U will NOT like it it's so dang heavy it does NOT act as a shovel what so ever and here in Canada during Black Friday Sale it costs $499. + tax (547.70 incl tax). If u don't take this advice well then u will just find out the way I did haha...I have a bad back and I am looking forward to use my old plastic shovel again!! Definitely the snow wasn't whiter on the other side. I dare u to buy one, I would love to see everyone's face even just to carry the massive box it comes in 😂.

I tried to warn people, heavier than you’d imagine. It’s more of a vacuuming motion vs a shoveling motion because it’s really just too heavy to be picking up all the time. Nice to see someone agree with me on that!

AGREED! I bought one of these and retuned it the next day. I bought it while it was snowing about 3-4 inches. too much effort and too much time. plastic shovel does a 1000% better job.

First, thanks for your video and understand all what you said. I decided to get the Greenworks 80 volt snow shovel even though I know it is going to be heavy and do 12 inch paths when it blows the snow. I also got a very wide 42 inch regular shovel to try this year for clearing off my driveway. So I am trying different things to hopefully make it much easier to clear off the snow. But again thanks for your video views on snow shovels.

This is a weird review... it's like you don't understand the purpose of it. Nobody said this is to replace a full sized snow blower... and why would you want to keep lifting it up after each push as if it was a shovel?!?!??! 😂😂

A lot of people use a shovel to clear driveways, sidewalks, and decks so it’s reasonable to test a product like this for all the things you might do with a standard shovel. With the word “shovel” in the name, it’s also reasonable to assume it might be used in a similar way as a standard shovel. Thanks for watching!

A questionable review at best. You praise it and then say don't buy it. You agree with every comment including the ones that disagree with you and tell them they have a point.. You review it as if it is full blown snowblower and criticize it for all kinds of specious reasons for things that it is not designed for. No "power shovel" is designed to be used as a shovel. I have not seen any review of any power shovel that includes lifting it up in the air and using it like a shovel. If you want a shovel buy a shovel. This is designed to replace a shovel. Is it too heavy? Maybe ,but you never say how heavy. As in most things check out the specifications on the manufacturers website.
