Boy, this place has really changed over the years. I first went to Xian in 1985 with my mother and stayed at the Golden flower hotel. It was my first trip to China and I loved it even though back then the roads were bumpy and the food was not the best. I thought the women in Xian were very beautiful. The Terracotta Warriors were just discovered one decade earlier by farmers. The museum was just one building covering a dug out in the ground with a few soldiers but it was very impressive. To think that if it weren't for a farmer digging in the area, the Terracotta Warriors would still be a secret to the world. I wonder if that farmer is still alive? Have a great time. I have not visited Xian since 1985 but I would like to go back and ride a bike on the city walls and witness the transformation of this once dusty and poor city to a great modern metropolis.

Oh, what a great sharing! Your 1985's visiting was so impressive, my dear friend. The Terracotta Warriors were discovered in 1974 and keeping in discovering job for decades, and yes, it has a huge difference with 1985's museum. I can totally imagine how poor and simple that museum was in 1985. The farmer who discovered the Terracotta Warriors is called Yang Zhifa. Mr. Yang is a great man. President Clinton ever awarded Mr.Yang USD 3M for discovering this wonder, and Mr.Yang donated all these money to poor people. Hope you could visit Xi'an again after 36 years, and that would be awesome!

The most astonishing fact was that each terra cotta warrior was an exact replica of its corresponding human subject. Face, body size, abnormalities; the detail and sheer magnitude of these sculptures represent a monumental social effort. Basically, an army of sculptors was created to pull off this miracle of logistics and art ... because it was art in its truest sense.

Qin's crossbow is the most advanced weapon at that time. Its shooting range at 800 meters is double that of modern AK47 rifle. It is so deadly.

@@franktrinidad142 Yes, effective range is typical less than the maximum range. Chu Ko Nu is repeating crossbow that was invented few hundred years later than Qin's crossbow. It's effective range is much shorter for obvious reasons. Qin does have another deadly weapon called crossbow array but it is not as portable as Chu Ko Nu.

Err... it's good to be proud of our heritage but wild exaggeration as claimed by some random online articles should be dismissed since they harm your credibility. AK47's maximum range (not effective range) is much larger than 400m. Qin's handheld crossbow, even when operated by the strongest soldiers, cannot hope to reach more than 300m in maximum range and likely far less than that in terms of effective kill range (probably less than 100m). The power of modern gunpowder and metallurgy is not something muscle and primitive technology could ever hope to match.

@@edukid1984 if you look at the history of Qin Empire on military aspect, they were either train to be in the military or be a peasant farmer. Even as a peasant, they serve mass produce food for the entire Qin Empire. In the military, there are 2 positions a novice soldier can take. Bowman and or soldier with a Ji (halberd like spear). The calvary are mostly for highly train military personnel. The only military that can compete with the Qin is their nemesis, the Chu. To me, the Greek and Roman would be devastated to meet the Qin army in the battlefield. The Ji would highly wipe them out as it can sweep the vulnerable legs of the Greek/Roman soldier. Plus with the repeating crossbow, they will smash through.

Been to China and visited Xian and the terra cotta army in 2011 to celebrate our 25 wedding anniversary, very impressive back then allready. Changed a lot again since than. The farmer who found the first warrior, he walked around back then, is he still allive? So many memories......

I spent a few hours there. They made it very detail, those armies, horses, weapons etc. I like those bronze chariots with soldier in section 2 if my memory serves me well. But to be honest, as a non history buff, I prefer outside area. Lol. Outside, there is a beautiful and interesting shops, food stalls, souvenirs etc. I enjoyed sit down there, Biang Biang Noodles, Xinjiang lamb Satay, grab some smoke, ice cofee, and watching ppl. Anyway, thanks for your effort making this great video Max. I can't wait to bring my family there. As for now, I'm trapped here. Don't know when we could travel again, finger crossed.

I heard the guide nearby mention that there were not enough archeologists, which is probably because Xi 'an was the capital of some of the most powerful dynasties in Chinese history, such as Qin, Han and Tang. It is reported that Xi 'an is only building a metro line 8, which has not been completed yet, because tombs of over 3,000 different dynasties have been found. The first Emperor Qin Shi Huang tomb itself & others pits have not been excavated yet. Now we see Terracotta Warriors all look like rock statues, but in reality they were full of colours. When they were exposed to air during the dig, the paint dropped off. Imagine how great they were with full colours in formation guarding the tomb of the first Emperor. That is also why China stop the excavation until they could find a better way to protect the relics.

I wish I could go there, but I think it is very expensive to travel in China. It is so disturbing the many military bases the US has surrounding China. We very much need world peace.

The museum was built in the early days to protect against looting. It would be very difficult to remove the dome and construct a new building with all these terracotta soldiers lining up below.

An amazing find to say the least, someone else found it too 13:53 looking at the burial pit if that’s what it is on the right side of screen but didn’t realise what they was burying their I assume family member amongst, digging that out they must have come across parts of the warriors and we’re probably like who the flip left all this stuff down here 😂 Where they made outside and painted then carried or wheeled down into the crypt or tomb and put into place ? The terracotta warriors is something I don’t know much about but imagine the vast amount of sculptors, painters, artisans needed to make all this 🤔🤯 yeah mind blowing scale of operation. 41:44 then big old pots of whine looking like that reminded me of the old Drunken Master 2 posters 😂 Jackie Chan standing in the Drunken Fist stance wearing the traditional garb with them pots behind him. I guess they made it outside and carried all these things into the tomb. You love Jackie Chan's movie, right? He is always my hero and my favorite movie star! the Drunken Master series is awesome! He visto una extraordinaria aventura entre NHK Japón (TV) y China ambos científicos, hicieron el camino de La Ruta de la Seda en 1984, otro mundo, otra realidad geopolítica, China en plena Revolución Cultural, Rusia era URSS , Irán era Persia, tardaron más de 5 años cruzando desiertos y fronteras Hasta llegar a Roma. Eran más de 40 capítulos, maravillosos historia dentro de otra historia, vi cuando recién descubierta la tumba, aparecían la primeras figuras, y lo mostraban al mundo. Recuerdo que decían que iban a pasar mas de 20 años. Para ver todo el ejército. Quedaron 30 capítulos discontinuados. Una maravilla! Un mundo que ya no existe.
