Nice one. Yh they are deffo good at customer support in my experience. I do understand why they under power it. To get good rannge and not heat up controller and motor. The controller is little and has no direct cooling, so.. But this bike can handle. High speeds comfortably. In the south east.

@@zane___k7333 I've seen a KZbinr doing the shunt mod to the controller
@zane___k73332 ай бұрын
@revparsons3tl you CAN do it. But!... the controller will overheat with the way i ride the bike. Because the controller uses the body of the bike as a heat sink. Has no direct cooling. That why surrons, solars, talerias, 79bike mantas etc.. have the controllers mounted outside. That why the EKX X21 MAX has the controller mounted out front. Generally, shunting would increase torque and not so much top speed because in a DC motor, increasing amps mainly increases torque with get a little more speed. But in a dc motor using higher voltages increases the speeds. and this bike already has a lot of torque. The limitations is with the bikes motor. It's mainly built for torque and not speed. Because there are gears in this motor. Regards

Great review! 👍💪 It is nice to hear your expriences with the bike and see your modifications. Gives me ideas to improve my bike too 😊 I do like my current street tires as they make the bike more silent and give about 10-20% more range while riding on asphalt. Then again riding on gravel and sand is not nearly as good with smooth tires and 2.4bar pressure. So the knobby tires do work better offroad. Steering and solid feel under my ass while going to corners is way better on street, but as said knobby tires with low pressure takes the win on dirt roads and offroad 😊💪 I think I need to change back to knobby tires or buy studded tires for the winter... winter in Finland will be a test for the bike too 😅 I just moved to different city, more to the countryside and have not been able to make a review, but maybe soon 😅 But great review and waiting for more videos from you 😊👍👍

@Usva78 i saw some really good tyres on aliexpress. Which are an upgrade of these ones minus the knobs. They seem to be using a kind of diamond grid pattern. From what i can tell, they are an upgrade in every single way of the bikes' original one, people seem to like thdm. And still run at low pressure, which i like. It's called CHAOYANG ARISUN 20x4.0 Fat Tire. I think i'm gonna try them out when my ones are worn out. Being in a city, the noise does help, to be honest. For pedestrians. It's a good bike. Very flexible platform. Very modifiable. I might upgrade the controller to a 40A one. Compared to the current 28 one. but i think i will lose like 1/3 of the range, so maybe then i need lower rolling resistance tyres. Because my power will be going to the motor. Cheers for the support. Regards.

Thank You for sharing experience. I am considering between x21 60V and X20. I actually tend to buy X20 because it has rear rack and for the rest difference in price you can get another 35ah battery. The frame is what really worth attention here. But I cannot understand why most of full suspension ebikes do not come with decent cargo racks. It is uncomfortable to have backpack on back when riding 30+ mile distances. Only three things I don't like about this bike model is 1) you cannot swap between enduro and bicycle seat, 2) there is no cargo rack 3) no alarm If seat and alarm are no issues since these ebikes are mostly for ghost pedaling and alarm costs like 20$, then cargo rack is a big issue. IMO thus it actually becomes a toy while the battery capacity allows it to be a daily commuter. But...these are my thoughts. Anyway great bike, useful video and actually nice to see it registered.

I bought the X20. I hit the grocery store often. Put a double milk crate on the rack that's easily removable like the adjustable height seat because I'm 6'2" and with the X21 my knees would be hitting my chest. I like the battery size, with a little pedaling I get over 50 miles. I really like the bike but there a few minor issues. Pedals are junk. One started clicking within 200 miles. I replaced with 3 bearing pedals instead of using warranty. Tires are thin. and a little noisy. I replaced them with with quality 60 tpi street tires. Also upgraded the inner tubes. Headlight, I didn't like it. Replaced with a light bar that has four modes. Rear shock is rated 650lbs. It isn't stiff enough for me. I weigh 215lbs. Replaced with 1000lbs rated shock. Front brakes squealed right out of the box. That being said, for the price I paid I am happy with it. Even with the extra $200 I put into it I think it's still more bike than anybody else sells. I will be adding Front turn signals because I do ride in the street.

@@ohboah320My current ride is 500w with less practical frame and I own it just to test if I would like ebike. And I love it. When I made a concept for custom frame it looked very similar to x20. Thats what cought my eye. Another issue with ekx x20 is that all sellers usually ship 22A controller, some people claim getting 28A. But nowhere close to advertised 2000w or 38A. That said I still think this concept it is better than Aniioki in many ways. I cannot imagine owners of two wheels who would not modify their ride drastically. And with x20 platform I see that any modifications will be relatively easy.

There have been some rumours that the motor is in fact 750W. I believe one person on yt cracked it open, only to find the said inscription. Which makes sense as the performance is almost equivalent to the 750W MTB, such as the Duotts C29 (aka Gunai GN29 etc) which sell for just over 700€ these days and they can hit 30mph as well.
@zane___k73332 ай бұрын
@jeunepremier9141 it is a 2000w motor. Peak.. actual is about 1600 or so But, the controller limits the power to 25A through the display. So that about 1200w then you have to minus 20% because the motor is about 80% efficient due to it having gears etc.. . Then since the motor is about 80% efficient which brings it down to about 960w. I think they do this to reduce heat because the controller is made by the same company, which makes the bike, the parent company, and i see these other brand bikes on the road all day. They are no competition because through they may have a high top speed, they cannot hold it. Also their acceleration curve isn't like the EKX. Because the EKX. Controller has torque double drive. bike can maintain the high speeds for a very long time. Which is what i like about it. Other bikes can't. They get to high speeds then taper and fall off. The controller is very small and uses the body of the bike as heatsink. So i myself an a technician so i understand why they did what they did and why they bike acts the way it does.
@zane___k73332 ай бұрын
@jeunepremier9141 The Guani GN29 Weights about 28KG. The X21 Weighs about 38KG. That's 10Kg more. Also to mention the increased rolling resistance of the fat tyres. Increased frontal air resistance of the wind that X21 has to face in comparison to the GN29. Imagine it like this, in any motor vehicle. 80-90% of the imput energy actually goes into overcoming air resistance.

You could either sit further back, which might be a little awkward but I've been doing it for a while OR you could raise the entire frame to get some more clearance. I'm 6 ft 2" and if I pedal a lot it does affect my knees a little bit. I'm doing daily trips of ~60 miles up and down the mountain, so I need to pedal when there's no slope not to run out of battery.
