I have always been confused on why they would be considered one being when she broke the ring and he tried to put them back together. The spell you use on the statue is called the the law of regression, right? This implies to me that you are rolling back the clock. Radegon is now the the one in charge, but before it was Marika. I was also confused if they are the same being, how is Marika strung up on the crescent and Radegon trying to put the ring back together? Perhaps the artist saw that Marika was held hostage inside Radagon. I know it's a stretch in this but Radagon has the pieces of the elden ring in his body. This isn't represented in the statue. He isn't broken up like we seem in the boss fight. Perhaps he was cracking apart at the time and that is what the artist saw. It would make sense to me that the parts of the elden ring he had is what was used to bind Marika. She generally seems to be more powerful than him. The line about not becoming me could mean then you are not the ruler. You are not my equal in strength. Edit: forgot to say that I believe he is falling apart because he was never meant to bear the elden ring or Marika.

@@miss_chalice If I may offer to you my own speculation of backstory the events of this game? I present to you the "Drunk Marika Theory". According to this theory: Every horrible event she caused, every vicious decision she made, and every absurd act she carried out for which no knowable explanation or defense exists? They all happened because Queen Marika wasn't even sober when she made those choices. And even by the time Malenia and Miquella were born, her golden liver was still working overtime. Source? The smooth, flatness of the eternally young Miquella's upper-lip. Her form imprisoned in the Erd Tree? That's Marika at rock bottom.

I want to say, an insight I pulled from Morgott and how he perceived his father can be seen visually in the Lords Apparition fight before Morgott. See as you fight a projection of Godfrey, you’ll notice Serosh absent and the music playing a holier than thou version of Godfrey’s music. I get a sense that it’s very intentional to show how Morgott viewed his father. As a protector, strong and noble, not cursed by the burden of lordship nor any traits of his brutal animalistic self. Morgot loved his father dearly but hates the savagery the tarnished represent.

For example calling blaidd and maliketh shadows. As well as the Scadutree being called the shadow of the erdtree, hinting at the "undesirable" characteristics of the world it inhabits. Though Jung warned against suppressing your shadow instead of understanding and accepting it. It makes sense then why everything is so fucked since the shadowlands have been completely oppressed and punished for their nature.

Could be that Marika normally had control, but her grief combined with Radagons desperation could've allowed him to break through for brief moments
@AndrewStonerock5 ай бұрын
@@maxanderson8872 I do believe that the "you have yet to become me, you have yet to become a god" line tells us all we needed to know. Radagon wanted her powers. They were separate beings trapped in the same body. They would switch back and forth whenever she needed to rule, or he needed to do whatever. The briars sealing the entrance to the erd tree is Radagon's spell, so he clearly had some level of god-like power. What gets me though is we are told throughout the first part of the game by Enya that we are there because the greater will wants us to restore order, but Radagon is stopping us. I see him stopping us as a direct "fuck you I won't do what you tell me" to the greater will. I also believe that Gideon was tapping into Radagon's mind when he said that "Marika wants us to suffer" or whatever the line was. Marika broke the Elden Ring because she wanted change. The tarnished were given some grace back in order to enact that change. Radagon stands defiant to change at every corner. I also believe that the greater will doesn't really care who brandishes the Elden Ring. The greater will really seems like a millennial parent who just gives their kids a tablet and tells them to bugger off.
@mitchellbrown19975 ай бұрын
@@AndrewStonerock Marika wanted us to kill a God. And according to Gideon, a man cannot kill a God. Period. So logically if a man can't kill a god, the challenge is impossible, meaning the struggle is eternal. He caught a glimpse of her goal and it frightened him. I also think they can be in two places at once. Mostly because there are a few Erdtree Avatars with the ability to make copies of themselves so I'm pretty sure Marika could just send Radagon away from herself and still be in Leyndell.
@BMazeing5 ай бұрын
@maxanderson8872 once Marika was imprisoned, I'm pretty sure the Grace we get is from Radagon. He wants us to come and find him, and he will gladly fight us and take the Great Runes we acquire in the meantime. I presume he wants to use them to mend the Ring in a way that he chooses. Perhaps he wants to regress back to the way of the Crucible, before the Erdtree grew from it like a parasite.

I think Radagon was always Marika because from a storytelling perspective, it's just more impactful and make the story unveil better, it feels like the story was written with that flow in mind. First there's the position of the reveal: it is placed at a point that indicates it's meant to explain the main mystery that has been bugging anyone who has been reading the dialogue until this point in the story: Why were three unrelated-children demi-gods too? They could have become demi-gods once the fusion happen but why would that retroactively make Radagon a god all along and if it didn't, why would it make his children demi-gods? It's more convoluted to explain if Radagon fused later and it's more impactful story-wise if they've always been so and if the revelation is there to explain this mystery. From a History's perspective too, what was Marika's main issue? War. What couldn't she do despite being a God? Officially participate in either war, she had to stay put despite clearly being a creature of initiative. So it make sense in that way too that she would separate her being into two, also explains why his appearance which had to be different from Marika, resemble Marika's previous enemies. She wanted a strong warrior, she based him on the ones she fought. (edit: and as someone points out below, it can also serves another purpose which is for a character who has doubts toward the golden order, to excise the part that's loyal to it from herself. If that's true, that would also indicate her doubts are much older than Godwyn's death). Radagon should have little importance on his own. But he suddenly appears, wins a war, when he doesn't he conveniently seduces the enemy and *learn their powers so that he can combine them to his own*, he has a great rune for some reason even before he wed Marika, he's obsessed with similar topics that Marika is (even if he seems to arrive at a different conclusion thanks to having his own personality), and for some reason she fuses with him after marrying him. Why? On the other hand, if Radagon was always Marika, it would make complete sense why she'd want to reabsorb him once he's outlived his usefulness and gave him the final two (maybe three) children. Sadly for her he became an independent being and he cannot completely be reabsorbed, leading to him being an annoyance to her plans and able to be used as a prison after he fails to repair the Elden Ring. Marika couldn't completely suppress Radagon when she was in control, but neither will Radagon be able to completely supress her when he's given control by the Elden Beast or its outer god. Hence the taunting. And there's even the hint from turtle pope, the way he phrases it, he talks about a secret that's inherent to Radagon, saying stuff like "Why did he abandon Rennala (if the answer was just "because he's loyal to Marika, Miriel wouldn't present it as a mystery), why he was a mere champion chosen as consort? (Once again, if the answer was just "she likes champions, she married Godfrey after all", Miriel wouldn't be presenting this as a mystery, storytelling conventions tell us there's more to it than that so he has no reason to ask those questions that other than implying that there's something weird about Radagon from the beginning, or at least from before he left Rennala). The whole story makes so much more sense if Radagon has always been Marika imo, although maybe everything I just said will be contradicted by the DLC, I've stayed away from spoilers so I wouldn't know until next hour xD
@TSpoon8235 ай бұрын
Yeah I can see it either way. At least Radagon becoming part of Marika when Godfrey is sent away. But I am leaning more in the direction of the two always being one, or him emerging as an alternate ego of Marika when she forms the Golden Order.
@Bleilock15 ай бұрын
I think it was always canon that they were always one, but how marika did it was "mysterious" Its just that npc dont have meta knowledge that player does, so thats why they act "dumb" and as if "they dont know"
@dresdencodak5 ай бұрын
Also worth noting that the parting gift Radagon gives Rennala is literally a rune that lets you change your form, and the mimic veil item is described as "Marika's Mischief." Both of those suggest that it isn't just that Radagon is a part of Marika that was reabsorbed after his role as champion, but literally Marika in a different form. The mystery, imo, is the "why" more than anything else. Radagon's more than just a disguise, obviously, but imo he feels like a manifestation of Marika's cognitive dissonance with the Greater Will and the Golden Order. He's the part of her that's loyal to the powers that be, but he's not the dominant part of her, most of the time.
@youngrootv5 ай бұрын
Pretty sure Marika is based on the end goal or magnum opus of what people studied in alchemy, the Rebis aka the divine hermaphrodite a divine being that is both male and female. The Rebis is also known as the fusion of the Red King and White Queen which is also pretty similar to the “red” Radagon and “white”, or gold in this case, Marika. I think they were always one or became one when Marika became a god because of this.
@AgentDigits5 ай бұрын
I always assume Radagon came into being afterwards... Possibly after the battle against the giants. I just assume Marika was cursed by them. Radagon initially shows up during the Liurnian wars... So he definitely wasn't around prior. Hence the whole regression incantation revealing their secret. The Radagon statue regressed into Marika but the Marika statue can't regress into Radagon. Regression means something going back to an earlier state. So to me it makes sense he came into being afterwards. The giants red hair braid states "Every Giant is red of hair, and Radagon was said to have despised his red locks. Perhaps that was a curse of their kind". Who could "their kind" refer to other than the giants?

And another hint when we defeat Gideon Offnir he says something along the lines of "i knew a simple man could never kill a god." you were one of Marika's illegitimate children and that's how Ranni and Melina already knew who you were in the beginning of the game! the source creator of the video i watched was from Zayf the Scholar.

Something just occurred to me about Rennalla effectively losing her mind after Radagon left her. It is said by Enia that all the demigods are of Marika, and there is much debate about Radagon’s origin and if he came from Marika or was joined with her at some point. Whatever the case, when he left Rennalla he may very well have revealed that he was also Marika to her. THAT would likely break anyone’s mind.

I've always asked myself this question and even discussed it with some friends, I've always believed that at some point in the timeline they were completely separate people, that through a punishment imposed by the Greater Will, they became 2 people sharing a single body after their marriage. I believe that perhaps this was decided by the Greater Will after the birth of Miquella and Malenia, perhaps they considered that their offspring would be too dangerous and that they should put a leash on them. I also believe that this was a way for the Greater Will to put a "leash" on Marika, considering that Radagon was so loyal to the Golden Order and this would make him put the Greater Will above his family, whether it was his children with Marika (Miquella and Malenia) or his children with Renalla (Rykard, Radahn and Ranni)

Being a child of Marika must've been so difficult. Wanting your mother's attention but she won't give it - but she actually did thru Radagon. Yet no one knows that she used him as a public vessel. She really is the embodiment of chaotic good.

Very cool to have the relationships laid out with such narrative flair! Beautifully done! One of the things I like about Fromsoft stories is they allow you to fill in the gaps with your own imagination. and the depth and creativity of such extrapolations are really fun to explore. I'm not much of a thorough lore hunter, myself. But I still enjoy a bit of head canon from what I do glean. It seemed to me that Radagon is indeed originally part of Marika. The gods seem capable of shedding parts of themselves. Aspects that are powerful enough to manifest as their own being, like Miquella casting aside his love and compassion, his most defining traits, that manifested into St. Trina. I think, in the past, they were one being. Miquella was seen as St. Trina sometimes and other times he was Miquella. But when he cast her aside, they existed simultaneously, Miquella now bereft of the Love and Compassion St Trina represents. I think Radagon follows a similar concept. Though Marika divested Radagon from herself strategically. My understanding is that Caria was noteworthy because it was a kingdom Marika could not conquer. Their knights were few in number, but extremely powerful. Equipped with mastercrafted arms and armor, the awesome might of glintstone sorcery, and lead by their glorious Sorceress Queen Rennala, Marika's armies were fought to a stalemate. But Marika is too crafty and far too devious to be stopped in her ambitions. So she attacked Caria from a different angle. The heart of it's queen. She manifest Radagon to seduce the mighty queen of Caria. (I wonder what virtue she lost in that transaction? Radagon seems like a pretty well-liked dude. And Marika might start to miss that part of herself eventually...) And it was roaring success. Rennala fell hard. But what I don't think Marika anticipated was Radagon becoming his own person. Virtuous and powerful. Sure, he swears fealty to Marika, so she now controls Caria. But I think Radagon and Rennala were quite the power couple. They started having kids and they were downright prodigies. Charismatic and skilled, one even a candidate for godhood! Marika's attempts at progeny with Godfrey had mixed results, in her eyes . I think she didn't much care for these empyrean children being born of her, but calling another woman mother. These untainted children. So she called Radagon back to her. I think, forcefully. Sure, he could have had some kind of supernatural hold over Rennala, but I like to think she goes so crazy from him leaving because they were truly, powerfully, and mutually in love. Soul mates. And being stripped of him destroyed her. That, and apparently she just took her children too. Now they are Marika's children. And with that, Marika now has a perfect partner; Herself. She tries for more children, hoping for that perfection. But once again they are cursed, afflicted. She is the accursed. There is no escape. So she wants him back. She wants that part of her that is Radagon. But he resists. He has become more than he was. Perhaps growing to rival Marika's own godhood. So she takes him back by force, once again. While he cannot stop her, Radagon does not give in. He struggles within her to wrest control of their body. And it was that struggle the sculpture witnessed... I think that really gives context to why Ranni was willing to upset the whole world. And why she chose to kill Godwyn, Marika's one Golden Child. It would break Marika just as she had broken Ranni's mother. And boy-howdy did it work. Anyway, just some musings. Loved the video. really stirred the juices.

When you get into the DLC, if you really pay attention to the lore snippets and the things that were happening the Lands of Shadow before she did whatever she did (I'm not just avoiding overt spoilers here, the nature of her betrayal is quite vague), Marika becomes more and more of a victim. The world state before she conquered it may arguably have been more brutal and horrific than the order she established after. It's a very interesting time to be paying attention to Elden Ring lore, and I can't wait to see more from this channel.

In my interpretation of Marika's godhood and all her cause of actions are quite different from this. Through the DLC, we have massive info on Marika and many more questions. SO Marika became godhood and betrayed the Hornsent because how the Hornsent mistreat her people, the Shaman. The Hornsent are like Omen, they worship the Crucible current, which is the primeval source of life, then finally became the Erdtree. Which explained why Marika hated Omen. Even though Marika hates Hornsent, she learned of them about the spiral tower and the Divinity Gate. Unclear who she killed to get to the Divinity Gate but eventually she did stand before it and became a god. Once she became a god, she immediately got imprisoned by the Greater Will and The Two FIngers. This is pointed out by St. Trina in the DLC. And this is how most of the events unfold and gets confusing. Marika got her shadow of Maliketh by the Two Fingers. And she got her first son and daughter, Messmer and Melina. According to Messmer's hair, they carry the redness of Radagon. This also means by this time, Radagon also got seperated with Marika, literally. Meaning, Radagon born of Marika when she became a god. Kinda the same thing with Miquella shed off St. Trina, his other half. But Radagon did not become her first choice of king consort, but it was Godfrey. At this time, Marika by the order of the Two Fingers, they started to conquer everything in between to spread the golden order. After conquered the Red Giants, Marika shift in her focus on the Hornsent. She sent her first son Messmer to march the crusade against the Hornsent. The reason she sent Messmer because he was curse with the Abyssal Serpent. she tried to hinder it by pluck out his eyes and gave them the golden grace. So that the Abyssal Serpent can be kept in place. Even though she sent him on the conquest, she seems to publicly against the crusade in order to create a way to cover her original sin forever with Messmer in the land she became god. According to Messmer outfit set description, Messmer accepted his mother wish and carry on all the hate toward him and march on to the crusade. This is where I believe she create a veil on the Erdtree and the Scadutree (the Erdtree's shadow) is born. Melina seems to hated that and rebel against her mom. She took on the mantle of the Gloam Eyed Queen and fight against the golden order using the black flame from the rune of death. Ultimately, she was defeated by Maliketh and he burned her body. Marika then took destined death and let Maliketh keep it for eternity. With this time, Radagon seems to completely separated from Marika and follow the order of the Two Fingers to conquer the Liurnia of the lake. I believe Radagon is Marika's manifestation of following the Golden Order. This is show why Marika tried to shatter the Elden Ring while Radagon tried to fix it back. Now this is all my speculation but I think Marika started to question her Two Fingers. This is pointed out through Count Ymir quest in DLC. He stated that everyone of the golden order was unhinge from the start. Marika and her Two fingers that guided her were corrupted. Later we find out that Meytr, Mother of Fingers were the voice that guided Marika all along without any envoy from the Greater Will. This means the Greater Will had abandoned the Land Between so long ago, long before Marika's godhood. That is why the presence of the influence of other outer gods are slipped into the Land Between. So to combat Marika's doubt, Two Fingers stripped off the grace from Godfrey and invite Radagon back into Marika. This could explain why Marika was not happy with Radagon return through the echo of the queen's bed chamber. And when Ranni decided she would never take the route Marika took and get imprisoned by the Two Fingers, all shite hits the fan. Grace by the Two FIngers extended out to Tarnished to invite them back to become the king consort of Marika. Marika brought back the soul of her daughter, Melina to ask her a favor to do the thing she wanted long ago, to burn the Erdtree down and establish a new order. Melina set out to find a Tarnished being able to do so. This is why Melina suggested the 1st Cardinal Sin that forbidden by the Two Fingers. And her reason that she was never really follow the grace of the Two Fingers. And everything started unfold in the base game.
