Tip: The clear hose will turn brittle from the antifreeze pretty fast. I used two 5cm pieces of chemical resistant clear hose in a boat where i installed a diesel heater system to help me see if there was air in the system, but the hoses became discolored and hard over the weekend. Had to change them out with proper radiator hoses, like the rest of the system. Also, you should add an expansion tank on the highest point of the system. It holds air that acts as a "damper" for when the system gets too hot. The liquid expands quite a lot when heated, and will burst your pipes. Air is compressible, liquid is not! But, i also have to say that this looks absolutely beautiful, and i am extremely impressed with what you have made!
@kschleic90532 жыл бұрын

I would recommend a thermostat for the battery coolant loop to bypass the radiator, and possibly a second radiator just for the batteries. On warm or hot days it doesn't matter, but on cold days you wouldn't want effectively freezing coolant pumping through the batteries. Regulating the pump speed can only do so much. You'll end up with unbalanced battery temperatures

1. Please add a reservoir to the cooling system. Leaks will eventually occur due to thermal expansion. That is the main reason they're used in cars. 2. As another commenter said, you have an aluminium radiator and copper heatsinks. Mixing these two metals is really not ideal as it leads to galvanic corrosion. It is advised to not do so in PC watercooling as well. Please look into this. I'm really pumped to see the Project Hummer EV finally on the road! Can't wait for all the fun stuff you have planned.

Also you will get losses of liquid out of the tubes themselves over time. Great vid, looking forward to the next one! Just a quick note in case you see this. The plasticizers in the clear hose will likely leach out quite quickly into the propylene glycol solution and clog up any narrow pathways. You'll know this is happening when your hose becomes less flexible and will likely yellow. In water cooled PC's, this can happen within a few short weeks. I don't know of any clear flexible hoses that are free from this issue. Even in the PC cooling industry, the best of the best still have this problem, just delayed. We also use the same mix for PC cooling.
@AstuteJoe2 жыл бұрын

I didn’t realize there was such an efficiency difference between electric and gas engines. So, even if the electricity generated for the electric motor is created by fossil fuels, it seems like it would still be more efficient than a gas motor.
@kschleic90532 жыл бұрын
It absolutely is. Engineering Explained has some good videos about this... A gas turbine peaker plant, connected to an EV by miles of transmission lines and all the efficiency losses involved, AND the charging losses, AND the drivetrain efficiency, is still more efficient than gasoline explosions pushing pistons 😂
@ulexx65742 жыл бұрын
@@kschleic9053 Also, not all electricity is produced by fossil fuels, while to run a gas motor, it's entirely fossil fuels

how much efficient is a gas power plant?
@fhonethone2 жыл бұрын
@@sayyidsahal1996 About 40 - 50%, the upper end being for combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT)
@Blinkin972 жыл бұрын
@@sayyidsahal1996 that depends, a natural gas turbine plant is about 42-45% efficient. A combined cycle natural gas plant (one that uses waste heat from the gas turbine to turn a steam turbine) can be upwards of 60% efficient.

Glad you included the footage of avoiding the speed bump (25:25). It will be nice when your testing is complete and you can take it off road.

Congrats on a job VERY well done! I didn't see how you flow the coolant through the battery packs... hopefully in parallel, not series? That way you can keep them all at the same temperature instead of sending "once warmed" liquid from the first - to the second battery pack, then "twice warmed" from the second to the third... It also looks like the suspension could be softened a little since it's probably a few (or several!) hundred pounds lighter than the suspension was designed for.

Awesome! What is the before and after weight of the project? I wonder if you will need to make some adjustments to the suspension?

I'll weight it in my next video. And for sure, the suspension is super stiff.

I do enjoy this series, not gonna lie I really do. I can't even hold how happy my face is when FINALLY this project come to its finish, and watching how it will be done in couple next videos is my top list now. I'm from Indonesia btw

You gotta give it a good suspension. Definately needs it.

When you finish the Hummer you should also test it against another Hummer in offroad, track lap race and drag race, so we can see the differences in performance!!!!!

This has to be one of the coolest projects i have followed on KZbin, my question is that are you going to make the humvee's aesthetics look pretty as well or will it stay how it looks right now?

I like the "sleeper" look. I feel like it could lose it's character if he does too much to the body.
