The ruff (or Goffered frills) which was worn by men, women and children, evolved from the small fabric ruffle at the neck of the shirt or chemise. Ruffs served as changeable pieces of cloth that could themselves be laundered separately while keeping the wearer's doublet or gown from becoming soiled at the neckline.

I guess it’s no different back then than it is today! Fads in fashion come and go. What shocks me is people being fined for wearing a big size… and then paying the fine just to be fashionable and show how wealthy you are! Lol! Another great video! Thanks ☺️

I’d have it dirty in two secs Rebecca. Good for posture though. There was one that almost looked like a - I don’t know how to explain it. Perhaps a veil comes closest. It was beautiful. I couldn’t see a name though. On my dreadful description, do you know who it was? It was early on, I do t know how to do times, sorry. Thank you . Looks most uncomfortable. 👍👍👍👵👵👵🇦🇺🇦🇺

0:26 ? I have searched for a while and can not find a name for this lady. It is a later ruff, early 17th century and most likely Spanish.
