I would add that a larger pot with a locking lid such as an msr 1.6l can have a food can stood in the middle of it with the labels removed and water poured around the can. You will get hot food and a hot drink or sterilised water and no need to wash your pot. It will take slightly more fuel but is worth it. Also zip lock bags, they will preserve foraged food, protect half used food and can be used to boil water (with learned skills). I also make sure my pack is big enough to take my kit plus any foraged items I may find but not so heavy I can't carry it. Great instruction as always Blackie.

Good talk for those just starting... I have had an emergency bag since the nuclar scares of the 60s. Got the idea from a book by Robert Heinline. My cousin, Judy, and I could go hiking for week with only about 20lbs in our pack. It was a fun game to pretend we were surviving. I guess being hillbillies raised in the woods had its advandages. We could not afford fancy gear so almost everyrhing we had was homemade.... even our knives. We did not carry much food because there were plenty of four legged MREs and greens all around us. lol Good job... I enjoy listening yo you.

I've been following your videos for a while now and I think your advise is very valuable and objective. It is not brand or business biased and really down to the core of the message you want to convey . Thanks for sharing.

I have heard Blackie that the emergency ration food aka lifeboat food are only good for survival if you need to keep your calorie count stable while being trapped in a boat in the middle of the ocean. Hence why they are called lifeboat food. From what I heard they are not made to be eaten and then you trek a bunch of miles or do a lot of survival tasks that you need calories for. I could be wrong about that. I only heard it from a couple other people, but I trust your opinion on the matter.

Nice presentation. I especially like the explanation that your have core essentials and interchangeable two season modules.

I love what you have to say. My only problem is adjusting your experience and knowledge to where I live, which is central Indiana. I seldom go south of Indiana because I'm a lover of the colder climates. So it's west, east, or north for what I love. We generally have mild springs and falls, relatively speaking, but we can also have frigid ones. In a bad year, we may have to wear winter clothing in early June, and again in late September. I've seen it snow as early as September sixth, though such weather is very uncommon. Anyway, I love the way you present your knowledge and experience, and much of it does work up here
