Percy French what a brilliant man he was, I loved listening to his songs on the radio, especially Are You Right Their Michael Are You Right, It was one of my wishes when I was a young 12-year-old gateman/boy working illegally for the CIE at Broioklawn level crossing that Percy would write a song about my works dealing with fast-moving trains and protecting the public and farm animals as they traveled up and down this busy country road, but alas I later found out that Percy French had moved on years before and was not sitting on the Golden gate singing his new songs to St Peter and all newcomers entering into heaven

Brilliant! Enjoyed hearing your rich voice, The Emmigrant…. and some new info on Percy French. I first learned of French when researching a song my grandfather Dan sang, “There’s Only One Street in Dromchollogher” (spellings vary). That is where I learned of Abdul Abulbul Amir, Come Back Paddy Reilly.. and was so amazed when I heard it as the intro to John Ford’s trilogy The Rising of The Moon first, The Majesty of the Law. All classics and I plan to share your “ 0:57 Emigrant with all my cousins who are blessed today because of the courage of emigrant from Dromchollogher, Daniel Barry.

...I first heard these songs (and THIS song) in the late 50s or early 60s on the LP by Brendan O'Dowda (after he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show)...dad bought that LP (which I still have!!!)..
