In today's Media, her display of Passion, Focus, Intellect and Humility would likely attract the horde of 2-Dimensional CopyCritters all over, reeking with the stench of their own limitations like housecats with filthy litterboxes. Someone would focus on her spirited genius and swarm like the projections from 'Inception'.

When George Martin heard their demo so long ago, he was unimpressed but agreed to see them. He succumbed to their charisma just as young fans do when they see these guys together 5 decades after they broke up. The sum of the parts never equaled the whole. They were the perfect storm.

As a lifelong Beatles fan, I've done almost everything you could do to experience the Beatles in some form. I've walked the street of the opening scene of Hard Days Night, I've gone into Marylebone Station through the same entrance and even been in the Apple building at 3 Saville Row, one floor up from where they recorded and one floor down from the rooftop concert. It honestly never gets old. While it isn't an obsession, it is something I soak in when the chance presents itself and I'm willing to go a little out of my way to enjoy it.

@@polytheneprentiss1534 not sure where you live, but if you're in North America, it's about the same price as traveling somewhere on opposite coasts in the States. Fly into London or Manchester and you can tackle both areas of the Beatles universe in one trip!

OMG, what a beautiful and insightful post. Like others who have commented, I grew up with the Beatles and have always loved not only their music per se, but how they opened new artistic frontiers. What saddens me is the pervasive ignorance among younger listeners who say, "WTF, what's the big deal?," with no sense at all of where the rest of popular music was *at that time.* They apparently don't understand that so much that followed, from The Talking Heads to Kurt Cobain, built on the new ground the Beatles had laid. I really appreciate your insights and passion for this amazing group.

What a great review! I grew up with the Beatles so it seems I’ve always loved them, but like you I was blown away by the introspective look at their lives during “Get Back” and all of the secrets it revealed. Someone has said the “Get Back” was not about the break up of the Beatles, but how hard they worked to stay together at the time, and I believe it. It impresses me to be end to hear in real time how they come up with a song and flesh it out to make such a wonderful final product. I learned a lot about them watching it too; lots of sweet moments like Mal playing the anvil, George jumping in to help Ringo with Octopus’ Garden, and Billy Preston being invited to be t to he 5th Beatle and bringing a new life to their music. “The greatest band ever” is thrown around a lot, not just for the Beatles, so it’s no surprise when people who have never listened to them don’t believe you. A lot of “first time” reactors on KZbin are just left speechless when hearing them. And you can’t just listen to “Let It Be” or “Here Comes the Sun” - there is so much variety and uniqueness to their music! It’s nice to see younger people start to understand what we’ve always known. Kudos!

It's quite weird the how The Beatles effects people. My sister was a teenager in Liverpool at the time ( I was 6) and she was the same as you, Sky. Totally in love. Collecting every scrap of info available, playing cards, calendars etc (now worth a fortune). I still play 'em and still love 'em :)

Your review put a smile on my face. I'm remembering when I was around 8 years old, my mom put on one of her records and the first song that played was, I should Have Known Better. That was the very first time I ever heard the Beatles. I was immediately obsessed, such an overwhelming feeling.

The most amazing thing is that the Beatles transcend generations, ALL are welcome. There is no division at all. Few groups can say this. I can't even envision a world without a Beatle influence. It was absolutely electrifying the first time around, nothing like it, ever. It STILL IS. Just wonderful that all generations can embrace this period of time because of ongoing technology, all the footage, everything, everything!! They mean the same to everyone, STILL! A Magic that stays utterly Magical.

I had the same exact thing happen! I became obsessed in 2014, and while I continued saying over the years that the Beatles are my favorite band, I wasn't treating them with the same fervor I used to, which made me question whether I had grown out of loving them. And then Get Back came around and now I'm in the thick of my obsession again (also at 22!). This was so validating and well done!

I remember watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Their music was on the radio 6 months before the USA in Canada. I was 4. It was a big deal. My 18 yr old half brother was coming from Liverpool to live with us. The first time I saw him he had a Beatle hairstyle, a Beatle suit, and Beatle Boots. He was carrying a portable radio/record player that was blasting; I Wanna Hold Your Hand. ✌🎶🇨🇦

Cheers my fellow fan! I'm 58. I'm from Detroit, and Detroit sits next to Windsor Canada. Back in the 60s you could tune in CBC channel 9 out of Windsor. CBC broadcast a lot of BBC content. So it goes that at age 4 my mom plops my in front of the television. She had been watching the David Frost show. I'm sure you've watched the boys perform Hey Jude on KZbin. We'll, there I was at 4 watching it. And as my mom put it.....As I came back into the living room, there you were swaying and singing the na na na nah's.....I was only 4, but I was hooked. It'd take until I was 8 to become self-aware about music. But their music was so ever present that they would always be my favorite band.

I’m 25, and my love for the Beatles began when I was 12 and my mom played their music one Sunday morning as she cleaned the house. I hadn’t heard music like that before and their unique sound made me such a big Beatles fan. I’m always that friend that brings up how the Beatles influenced our music today. When I watched their final performance I couldn’t help but cry to see how happy they looked once again.

It was a complete surprise and totally unexpected when my wife and I walked in the house when a news flash came on the television news about the Beatles being told by the police to stop a rooftop gig because it had stopped the traffic and crowds were gathering in the streets looking to see where the singing was coming from, employers had been reporting them to the authorities for disrupting the work force But we were loving it, we had never seen anything like it before Then the Beatles had always done things that was unexpected.

I was 5 years old when the first Beatles record was released in the USA in 1964. I loved the Beatles from the start. My brother, who was 15 at the time, bought every new album upon their release and I would wait with an almost unbearable anticipation to listen to each new album. Still my favorite Christmas present ever was the Beatles ‘65 album received for Christmas 1964.

In the US, the country was still struggling to adjust to the assassination of president Kennedy in 1963. I was 7 at the time, in Cub Scouts and obsessed with the toy marching drum I had received for Christmas. Kids at school were excitedly talking about beetles, something I knew nothing about, until school was over. On a Friday evening as we were getting ready to attend our Cub Scout pack meeting, the evening news had a short feature about the Beatles arriving in the US. My brothers and I watched the “news” intently until my parents turned off the TV and forced us to the car to get to the scout meeting. I don’t know how much time passed, if any, from that Friday night to a Saturday afternoon at the local theater to watch “A Hard Days Night”. We lived in North Hollywood Ca. at the time, an average middle class neighborhood. At the theater, we experienced first hand, Beatlemania! It feels like a memory from a fictional story, but it was real. We were barely able to hear the movie as the theater was swollen with screaming and crying girls of all ages. My older brother was so frustrated, he stood up, leaned over the back of his chair and screamed as loud as he could at the screeching girls behind us. It was to no avail, he was invisible to them. Together, we viewed the movie at least 12 times before “Help” was released, which we saw probably the same number of times. The Kennedy assassination was a seminal event that impacted my life forever, even to this day. Just as impactful was that Friday night news feature of the Beatles triumphant arrival in the US. With each passing year, I hear something new in every Beatles song and my awe of the genius drumming of Ringo knows no limit. Over the years he was often dismissed as an average drummer, but he was far more advanced than any drummer in rock and roll. He played for the song, not his ego. He enhanced every Beatles song in a way no other drummer could have. He was just as important as John, Paul and George. The Beatles would not have reached the level of success they continue to carry if anyone of the 4 wasn’t in the band. I haven’t seen Get Back yet, and will probably have to wait to buy it, but I will. It will be a great bookend to Hard Days Night.

I fell in love with the Beatles when I was two years old in 1964 and I heard, “I Want To Hold Your Hand” for the first time. I didn’t want to listen to anything else. They have been my favorite band ever since. Watching “Get Back” was like a dream come true. I felt like I was right there with them and witnessing all of their brilliance, their humor, and most importantly, their love for each other. My husband and I subscribe to Disney+ strictly to watch this documentary and then we were going to cancel. But, I can’t. I find myself re-watching and reliving my favorite band creating one of my very favorite albums. It’s exciting to know that the younger generation is also picking up on the fact that (IMHO) The Beatles are, and will forever be, the greatest band EVER! Thank you for this wonderful review. I have no doubt that you’re going to have a wonderful career in music journalism.

I have been a huge Beatles fan for 47 years, and have listened to, and played it both onstage and at home. I have a son about your age, maybe a little bit older, and I am so happy to see other younger adults both love, and appreciate, this music. When I began teaching my son guitar, his first song he learned was Day Tripper. When I joined a band for the first time, decades ago, our first song was Yellow Submarine. I have, since then, played hundreds, and hundreds of songs, in many different bands, from many different genres. All of them much, much older than you, but I will always have a very special fondness and love for The Beatles. Most of the memories I have as a youth, and young adult, have a soundtrack with The Beatles on a constant loop. It does my heart good to know some younger adults have an appreciation for the music I grew up listening to. I hope you have many years ahead of you listening to and loving The Beatles.

I agree that from what little I've seen the entire group of people were searching for a consensus trying to put out the best possible music. All the while showing their deep friendship for each other. One last point, over time your approach and view towards music changes, it actually gets even better as you age, much like a fine wine. I was born in 1950, so I witnessed the Beatles in realtime. The music scene was wild, full of great bands making music that would become timeless. And much of the credit is due the Beatles. They made everyone stretch. Today, if I had to choose the greatest band of all time, it'd be the Beatles. I don't play them as much as I do Pink Floyd and the Dead, but when I do, they still transport me to a magical place. And I loved 'Get Back' too. A real treat for fans - new and old!

First of all. . .wow. Second of all, Young Beatles Fan, I'm an old one. I saw The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964 on my parents' 24" black and white Magnavox TV. Like a lot of people of my generation, my life changed in an instant. In August 1966 I saw The Beatles at Shea Stadium in New York City. The show, which was identical in all the cities they play on this tour (which turned out to be their last live concert until the rooftop at Apple) and was 30 minutes long.Contrary to popular opinion, I was able to hear every word and note of every song; probably because my seat was so high that I was literally above all the noise below me (which was everyone). Two years ago my family and I went to see Paul McCartney at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The fans there were all ages, races, and genders. I felt good. My generation got at least one thing right. Peace.

Hurray for you. I was born in 1960. As the youngest of 5 siblings the Beatles are part of my earlies memories. At the age of 3, I remember leaning over the cabinet of the stereo my dad built himself and listening to the early Swan Records 45 release of She Loves You/I'll Get you. Capital Records was still a few months away realizing they had a goldmine and finally issuing "I Want to Hold Your Hand. The Beatles on film were not easily accessible in those days. I saw Hard Day's Night and Help once or maybe twice over twenty five years prior to the advent of home video players. I completely appreciate your Hard Day's Night experience. When I first got a VCR it was one of the first tapes I bought. I played it over and over in awe of being able to see the Fab Four in rare form as often as I wanted. And of course, you are right about Get Back. It is an experience like no other. It's the next best thing to having been there. Indeed, it is so sustained and uninterrupted that we feel as though we are. It is full of revelations about the boys that blows holes in the myths we have heard over the years. The lie that John and Paul stopped writing together early on...It'd true Paul did not have the same access he did to John post Yoko but they still had the same kind of input into each other's musical ideas up until the very end. It confirms what I have heard elsewhere about Come Together, that the song as presented to Paul was much faster and borderline plagiarism borrowing as it did from Chuck Berry's Cant Catch Me. Paul convince John to slow it down and added the swampy bass feel and the keyboard riff. Glad to see there are young folks that still have such a reaction to The Beatles.

Beautiful! I've always owned a Russian made DVD of Let It Be, but the editing of that film was designed to tell a story of breakup and ending relationships in a very manipulative way. Watching Get Back made me just as happy, and also confirmed my assumptions about their personalities and love for each other. I watched it 3 times. Now I'm done (until it's released on DVD, which I'll buy). The Beatles documentary by the 3 (at the time) surviving members is also a great one to watch.

It’s out on DVD/Blu ray. Check out the Beatles online store. The Anthology is amazing! It was the “Get Back” of the 90s. I have the VHS set - need the DVDs.

@@polytheneprentiss1534 Thanks for the tip! I didn't know about the Beatles online store. The Anthology was great because it was the first time the videos/films of Rain, Strawberry Fields and other songs were available on DVD. What Beatles fans had in the 80s was the Complete Beatles video, which was pretty bad.

@@eximusic can’t remember if I’ve seen the Complete Beatles - probably so. But the Anthology is certainly epic, especially with the two new Beatles songs, and all the buildup to it was so exciting! Good luck with your Get Back purchase!

When I was about 7, 8 or 9, I saw 'Yellow Submarine' late one night on TV...and that was in the 80s. I am so glad to see your video up and I am now determined to finally find the time to watch Peter Jackson's work. Keep these coming... Oh, and new sub!

When you see how much fun they are having on the rooftop, it boggles the mind to imagine what they were like in the period after the Hamburg trips, before fame, before studios, when they were at their peak as performers. Sweet Loretta Martin!

Love your enthusiasm! Though Mal is seen hitting the anvil for rehearsal’s of Maxwell’s Silver Hammer while at Twickenham, there’s mild contention as to who “plays” on the recording from July 10, 1969 at EMI studios. Mark Lewisohn and Giles Martin both state it’s Ringo. Geoff Emerick has contradicted himself. And the track by track section of the recent Abby Road deluxe anniversary box states that Mal was on holiday during the song’s recording.

Great! Your insight to observe h music history before your own young history is beautiful. I learned about the Beatles from my Father and Watching Get Back I learned so much about our relationship to the Beatles and the impact they have to music today. I loved hearing your generation’s impact too. It’s truly a love letter you have broadcast about your generation’s impact of their impact to your generation and it warms my heart.

Very apt observations, Skylar. For me, an old dog who grew up with them in the 60's, it was almost like getting an authentic new Beatles album, and very VERY welcome at this time in the world. And like you say so well, we got to hang out with some really cool guys working thru some very challenging things in their creative relationships and keeping it real and as fun as possible all the while. Love and joy and tears indeed. It's astounding that they totally changed, and reflected the changes, the world was going through, and they were not some super-group of already great, renowned players; they were just 4 lads from the same town who loved creating and being together. Also loved your point that Peter Jackson just let the film speak for itself; no voice-overs, no present-day commentary, no intrusions of ego; just "here we are, hanging out with the Beatles and their cohorts". So much music on film/video is ruined by "creative geniuses at work" with cameras. Dude! just get the lighting and focus right, and stay the hell out of the way. Please, and thank you!

Thanks for your review, it took me back to my childhood too. I discovered The Beatles when I was 6, and they represented a discovery that there was other music than the classical music my parents played. They remain my favourite band, and loves every second of the Peter Jackson film series.

As one who was hit by the tsunami wave known as The Beatles I can attest to their popularity, for it simply wasn't only their music but culturally as well. I'm enjoying hearing your voice and that of other women of how their music has impacted their lives as more than the '' Oh those screaming girls''. And by the way, the music never left you, it's always here, there, and everywhere. With ❤ Peace

What a pleasure to hear your comments and experiences with The Beatles. So great to have someone your age appreciate them (properly). I hope that you play or will play guitar one day so that you can also realize how talented they were as musicians. I've appreciated them as a drummer for over 50 years, and lately with a guitar have re-learned and re-appreciated all of those songs. It's truly a revelation! You mention the movie A Hard Days Night .... OMG when that movie came out, it was the first time any of us had actually seen them in motion AND talking like mere mortals! That first day at the theater, I walked in at 10AM for the first show and did not walk out till 6PM. You could do that then. Anyways, I could go on and on ..... I truly hope that the music can become part of your life like it has been in mine since 1963. Those first 4 albums ARE my life! Here is an interesting fact since you posted the video on Feb 11th. Shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday 11 February the Beatles arrived at Abbey Road Studios in North London to work on their first long-playing record. Ten hours later it was all but finished. Two days later George Martin did a few overdubs, before the final mono and stereo masters were completed the following Monday. And that was it, ten songs in ten hours. Add to them ‘Love Me Do’ and ‘P.S. I Love You’, their first single and ‘Please Please Me’ and ‘Ask Me Why’, the follow-up, and you have the album named after their second hit. All in all, not a bad day at the office

Thank you Skylar for reading my comments! One thing that I had forgotten to tell you is that, their first album was recorded "live" meaning all of them playing together just like they did in clubs. Basically that first album was part of a set they played in the clubs, I watched your BeatlesFest video, so wink, wink .... I just had to send you this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJDUZKyig7yjbZI - (just in case, called : 2 Year Old Correctly Names 21 Beatles Songs in 2 Minutes!) Take care !!

There is some very important things that Peter Jackson was basically forced to leave out. George Harrison when he quit the Beatles - his mother was dying of cancer which is a massive part of why he left to go back up to liverpool.
