@kungolaf44993 жыл бұрын
@@jackbruno953 Not really. In The Empire Strikes Back it plays when the Imperial Fleet and the Executor are first introduced and Vader is only a sidepiece - a part of the show so to say. It also plays tons of times way faster for example right before when the Imperial officer on a Star Destroyer is informed of approaching Rebels ships and says "Good. Our first catch of the day." It is the theme of Imperial fleets and the Empire's presence. Not necessarily Vader's. It doesn't play once during the cave scene with Luke or Luke's confrontation with Vader. Only in Return of the Jedi is the quieter leitmotif exclusively used when Vader appears physically on screen. But it is not the parade-like triumphant Empire theme used before but a laidback, more sinister version. This tactic is also used in the Prequels and The Clone Wars when Anakin has darker moments or for when example he shuts the doors on the Separatist Leaders. ROTJ and Prequels made Imperial March his theme - not Empire Strikes Back especially considering that the Empire Strikes Back was trying to do something completely different with the Imperial March. The Imperial March is the Empire's theme but one of its leitmotif's is also Vader's theme. That's the way I would put it.

He speaks to him like he was in a higher position and sometimes kind of talked down to Vader in some scenes IMO. Telling him his plan "had better work" and he was taking a big risk in listening to him. And also he ordered him to release the guy that he was strangling with his force powers after he was putting down the force and said "his sad devotion to that ancient religion hadn't helped them find the Death Star plans". Vader was clearly more powerful than Tarkin but he probably outranked him.
@ultra_vires2 жыл бұрын
@@STONESGAM Only higher up in his particular jurisdiction. The Death Star was Moff Tarkin's project and he had complete authority from the Emperor over matters concerning it. He and Vader happened to cross paths because of their respective assignments, therefore it's not an issue of who outranks the other, merely they are in charge of their own separate goals. If the scenario was jedi/rebel hunting or matters of the Emperor's security, Vader would be very much in charge. His attendance at the Death Star was because of his pursuit of Leia and the stolen plans, as such that doesn't mean he outranks Tarkin just because he turned up, Tarkin had a direct mandate that made him senior on Death Star matters.

Folks need to understand: up until this moment in 1983, Darth Vader was THE ultimate bad guy. The physical embodiment of evil, his menacing presence made all the more terrible by his impenetrable mask, inhuman voice, and the ultra-intimidating Imperial March. Then, this hulking cyborg monster that has haunted our dreams... falls to one knee in utter supplication. The fascistic horns and shrieking strings in the score curdle into a miserable death-moan. There's no villain like Palpatine, he actually won. Voldemort; struggled to conquer a freaking school. Sauron; was "dead" for 3000 years and when he was capable of returning he was beaten. Emperor Palpatine; successfully conquered the galaxy and maintained order for 20 years, died because he didn't foresee that his own apprentice would betray him. I know this might seem a little biased but im tired as hell to go into depth with every one of these guys.

@@marknoonan3854 It is part of John Williams' use of leitmotif throughout the films. He takes the same "theme" and rearranges it according to the context. What I love most about this film is the subtle hints that Anakin is slowly awakening within Vader’s shell. Here when the Emperor realizes Vader wants to continue his search for Luke, Vader turns his head sharply and pauses before saying “Yes my master” in such a disappointed tone. That little moment speaks volumes. Vader doesn’t want the Emperor to know he’s looking for Luke because he still wants Luke to join him in turning against the Emperor. Because of Luke, Vader is going behind the Emperor’s back and following his own goals now. He is already prioritizing Luke over the Emperor. And a part of him - the part that is Anakin - isn’t really comfortable with the thought of the Emperor working his manipulations on Luke. It’s the small but powerful crumbs sprinkled throughout the film that build up Vader’s gradual turn, so the climax is utterly and completely earned.
@SamaritanPrime6 ай бұрын
There’s a bit in the ROTJ novel where Anakin, as he lays dying, has a bit of extra dialogue to Luke before he goes. “Luminous beings are we… not this crude matter.” It’s a Jedi maxim, one that Yoda gave Luke before he too died. I think of it as that really was Anakin that died on that ramp, not Vader. (Plus, with Anakin’s scenes in Ahsoka… well, I’ll just say that Anakin’s redemption isn’t quite done just yet.)

Fun fact: Palpatine thought, "Seems that the underlings are scared of me. OK, I will ease them. First, I will talk about Vader's boy and even offer a job to the brat, though he blew up a Death Star. Next I will laugh to show my human side to everyone and they will think that I am like Santa Claus wearing black." Didn't quite have that effect.

Fantastic scene. Little touch I noticed- when the Imperial Commander bends the knee he is looking straight ahead, presumably as most employees of the Empire and indeed citizens of the Galaxy would do for the Emperor, sort of dutifully but reluctantly- whereas Vader fully looks at the floor in devotion and fear with his bending of the knee. The terrifying villain of the first two films is reduced to a pitiful overawed nervous wreck in this scene. Great storytelling for Vader’s character development in this movie, as the Emperor continues to break his spirit & he gradually becomes weaker in physical, psychological, political and figurative stature. Sidious was ingeniously horrible to absolutely every other character in these films including his “friend”.

In terms of raw 'Force Power', Vader/Anakin was fár stronger then Palpatine. Yet through his electronical prosthetics, Vader could NOT perform Force Lightning, one of the most powerful Sith-abilities that Palpatine had mástered. So purely on that, Palpatine was superior to him already. On top of that, Palpatine was a masterful political plotter, and had developed his senses to that, through the Dark Side. Palpatine was the Mastermind, Vader was the most powerful.

The fact that palpatine makes the cyborg with a deep voice that regularly chokes people to death look like a reasonable fellow is a testament to how terrible he is. But then again I think meeting Luke rekindled some of the good in Vader, so in most of ROJ he seems on the fence, and reluctant to do anything that could harm Luke.
@redpillfreedom66923 жыл бұрын
In ROTJ, he's basically just going through the motions. This lifestyle no longer gives him a sense of meaning or purpose; he's only doing it because he believes he's committed too much evil to be redeemed and thus doesn't see the point of turning away from the Dark Side.

@@shogun2215 trust me, it’s not the same. It was literally the first time everyone was introduced to the emperor. It’s not like now where you can tell your kids or grandkids when they see episode I for the first time that this guy is evil when he’s being introduced as a mere senator as opposed to the man he becomes that even Vader kneels to in his presence. Starting with the prequels you see his progression to the man who rules the galaxy but back in 83, we see the man that is merely mentioned and you see only an brief holographic image of and wonder just who he is and how powerful must he be that Vader, as powerful as he is, kneels before him and obeys him without question. It’s the aura of mystery that we are shown at the end when he starts blasting Luke with lightning that we think “oh, now I see why Vader takes orders from him”.

I just realized that after the empire tells vader to rise and they start walking, Vader looks at the emperor, but palpatine just keeps looking foward and walking. and vader finally speaks after a few seconds. It's a truly chilling moment cause you realize thats the movie showing Vader is nervous to talk to palpatine, and he is truly scared of his master, to where he waits to see if palpatine says something, oor even is too intimadated to speak at first. And the first thing he says is to tell palpatine GOOD NEWS. And then again, when palpatine speaks of vader wanting to look for luke, vader again acts nervous, most likely cause he was scared the emporer could sense his want to find luke so he and his son could overthrow palpatine. this whole scene shows how powerful palpatine is and how he scares even vader
