Best video about Julian on the internet thus far..

Cool seeing you here, though not surprising! Also, in the event it hasn't been sent to you yet, there is a video that is likely of great interest to you from 'Taliesin's Map' titled: "CERNUNNOS Part 2: The True Origin of Exodus in Indo-European Myth (Moses, Aaron, and Yahweh)" whose creator mentions sending the video your way in the intro.

Proud to say Emperor Julian was my gateway into Western Esotericism. I believed intuitively in the triple Sun. That the earthly Sun is the creative, maintaining and destroying force of this world, effectively God localized. Above this is the celestial Sun god, from whom the astral powers proceed, the king of the gods. Above all is the divine Sun, the source of all things, equated with Brahman in the east, and Plato's Good in the west, the luminous ground of Being. I went seeking for any tradition or person who taught this. Sure enough Emperor Julian does.

It’s fascinating how we have such abundant/intimate writings from such a divisive figure at that time considering Christianities political dominance and tendency to burn heretical ideas. Julian himself is such an incredibly interesting person, not only in how he administered the empire for those 3 years, but the psychology of a man who did the opposite of what most converts at the time did, he left the newer more centralized faith he was raised in. Truly one of the most interesting emperors in Roman history, things may have been much different had he not let hubris lead him to Persia.

@@Wyattinous Indeed! I would love to glimpse into the parallel reality where he had survived and see what had changed.

"tendency to burn heretical ideas" you write like Christians were better than their contemporaries in preserving texts they considered controversial.

I have to admit that listening to this filled me with sadness. To think that the gods forsook Julian according to the vicissitudes of divine providence in the same sense as Christ was forsaken. I wrote a paper, which should be published soon, arguing, among other things, that Christ could be seen as one of the Neoplatonic heroes rather than as the ‘one true God.’ In this sense, he and Julian would have been companions within the hierarchical structure of divine beings rather than adversaries, as the world positioned them to be.

I have the impression that the emperor was guided by his own ego by setting himself against Sassanids. Especially since it was accompanied by bad omens and prophecies.
@user983443 ай бұрын
I think it was mostly a political one. You see Julian wasn't very positively seen by a lot of people so a great victory against the greatest enemy of the empire would have solidified his position even further and potentially allowed him more space to enact his controversial policies.

@@user98344 Thank you. I'm aware of that. He was also a great believer. He was a practicing gods worshipper and participated in divination. The sources mention multiple warning signs he decided to ignore. That's why I blame his ego.

speaking about "the Christians" is mixing a heterogenous group into a abstract box. At Julius time the diversity must have been great. In each tradition; mansonic, hermetic philosophy included, we find aborations or fanatics of particular branches. Imagine Julian would have met esoteric, honest and kind "Christians"
@americanesoteric3 ай бұрын
Julian* nonetheless refers to them in a general fashion (the Galileans), caveated by his own understanding that there were many sects at odds with one another. That is implied at the beginning of the video. However heterogeneous they are, they are still professing to be 'Christians.' Thus, the term applies, especially in the context that Julian was writing in. And yes, Basil of Caesarea was his friend.
