I'm 62 years old and on behalf of the generation that dances on the line between Baby Boomer and Gen X thank you for being the voice of our generation. All these little entitled whiny brats have absolutely no idea what we went through to get this far. They should be thanking our generations for making it possible for them to be where they are now.

I'm with you on the edge. I call myself a BoomerX.... born in a Boomer year but with the X experiences growing up! I have nothing in common with true Boomers. My dad was not in WWII. He was 12 when it ended. My experiences are nothing like my older cousins.

I was born in 85. Since I was a kid the worker production has gone up and the wages haven't kept up. My mom is 75 and If my dad were alive he'd be in his 80s. I was raised more like Gen X than a millienal. I was taught to work hard, and started working (officially) at 14. But the road map has been blurry and it doesn't seem like there's much hope of anything getting better financially. Just working hard doesn't cut it like it did for my parents.. my parents have college degrees they were able to work while in school and pay as they went. I was told to go to college, but now I have 60k debt for a degree that hasn't helped me land a decent paying job. I'm not whining. But if the older folks have any helpful guidance to offer, it would be greatly appreciated. The landscape has changed and the terrain looks impassable.. loosing hope that there's a way up or out.. except death.

Well, little GenY or Z or whatever..... You want to know how to get around the corporate nonsense. I'm a BoomerX ... technically a Boomer but so close to the edge that my experiences are of the X. I was working at a corporation in the early 80s. We used color sprays for our hair. Fun and fast to change! A different color every night or day. And I wore it in my hair to work. And I wore the clothes I wanted to wear. Because as a BoomerX, I did and do what I want! And here's what happened at that corporation... I got several promotions, and several raises, in the few years I was there. I asked why me. Why not the ones who "fit in?" I was told, "Because you're a Maverick! Mavericks think outside the box. Mavericks have the best ideas for change and innovation. Mavericks make the best employees because they are the ones with the creative ideas! And that's why you're so valuable to this company!" But risk isn't what your generation is about. You were coddled and kept safe. You'll never think outside the box because the box is all you know.

As a latchkey kid that enjoyed making playground equipment out of building supplies left out on construction lots. I can’t say I’ve ever thought the color of my hair too important let alone someone else’s, but if that the hill she wants to “dye” on … have at it. No one had to figure out how to do my jobs for me or told me what to wear or how to look, I just did what I signed up for and got paid… I think that’s called adulting.😂

My first thought was, "If you don't like something, leave." Then I was like, I get feeling like you can't when you need the paycheck. Especially these days. However, I'd seen a video of a clever way around it...this person had long, straight hair. When it was styled to drape one direction, the hair was black. When they ran their fingers through it to flip the drape to the other side, it was an amazing dye job of rainbow. That was my kind of rebellion. I also know that getting hair professionally done is hella expensive, too, both in time and paying the stylist for product and time. (I have curly hair, so this sort of rebellion is, alas, impossible for my locks.) My suggestion would be dye your hair...and get a natural hair wig while on the clock. My first non-natural hairdye styling required bleaching, and then rounds and rounds of hairwashing and blowdrying. Took over 9 hours to complete and I only had to pay for the product because it was at a hairstyling school my daughter was attending. Still cost me over $100 JUST for all the product used on my head. Easily would have been over a grand.

🧡 Respect sister 🤘🏼 I know there have always been women who hate on other women, but this level of disrespectful willful ignorance is ridiculous. In the late 90s I worked at a law firm. I was ordered to remove the eyebrow ring I had just gotten. I pushed back because I had ran it past my supervisor prior to getting it and offered to not wear it to work after it healed. They wouldn't budge so I made them fire me. I filed for unemployment and found another job. That's how you navigate the corporate situation. Bend when you can and don't compromise when you can't. You are way more valuable to them than they are loyal to you. They want you to believe there's a million people ready to take your job. It's closer to the truth to say there's a million jobs looking for good people. And some of them don't care what color your hair is.

I was doing social work overseas as a self.Supported christian missionary But it doesn't mean I can't have one later. Why is there so much hate for GenX now? We left everyone alone, we just want to be left alone. We took the good things we learned from our parents and we made adjustments to the negative ones. Could we come on social media complaining, yes but what does that change? Just because one door closes doesn't mean you give up, you just bust through another one.

To be able to have your hair color any color you want in the business world comes with time and putting in your dues. Becoming so valuable and powerful that no one would think about questioning why your hair is bright blue or whatever. It will be seen as a power move that you can't make when your in your 20's, no real work experience and on the bottom rung of the corporate ladder. You got to get to the top before you can be individual. This also applies to owning your own business. Most of the time you have to conform, at least for a while, to corporate norms for appearance until again you become valuable and powerful enough to have an individual style: think Elon Mush, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and the list goes on. Some of them may wear suite but they are suites with a personal style that makes a statement. Even Donald Trumps hair was more conservative back in the day as was his style. So shut up, pay your dues, become valuable in some way and you too can run around with purple, pink, green hair someday.

One of our silly children came to us and said that life would just be perfect if the corporate overlords would allow them to wear pink hair coloring at work. No need to be nasty in your response. Just remind your daughter, -*(In that moment, she is your child who is seeking guidance.)* -that it doesn't matter what they restrict. Because they can't inhibit your natural beauty. And that is all that any of us will ever need. That's a more proper Gen-X response.
