Every 19th of October, Grenadians mark a somber anniversary: the 1983 execution of the country’s former prime minister and revolutionary leader, Maurice Bishop, and others who died alongside him. The people of this Caribbean nation still have no closure 40 years later. The remains of Bishop and his supporters were never returned to their family members and are missing to this day.
In the first episode of “The Empty Grave of Comrade Bishop,” The Washington Post’s Martine Powers takes us on the personal journey that led her to learn about Grenada’s history. Martine delves into why Bishop was such an influential figure, what made the United States nervous about him and why the mystery of his missing remains continues to haunt so many on the island.

This matter is still pending and lingering in the minds of the Grenadian people, pending closure. Until then the matter is still open.

Listening to this for the first time! OMG. Prime Minister, of Grenada, is sassy. He came on American soil, and challenged Regan. Maurice Bishop, speaks eloquently than Regan. He has a big voice. I could not stand to hear Regan speak. He speaks like his lips always tense.

Looking forward to the rest of the episodes as someone old enough to remember the US intervention & invasion of Grenada. For those who might be incredulous of this US foreign policy history & activity in the Caribbean, Central & South America, I'd recommend taking a good look at the brutal, bloody history of the US overthrowing democratically elected governments in that region. But as a WaPo subscriber finding this series was crazy. No where in the Post does it say KZbin, I kept trying to use my Google podcast app where I found it. Basically kept getting bounced between the WaPo app, WaPo website, Goog podcast & KZbin - making me sign in everywhere. Very aggravating.
