Going through the small towns and abandoned buildings in the desert on your way to Vegas is somewhat reminiscent of back when you used to do your abandoned videos on your main channel which were your most popular videos amongst fans, so thumbs up to these kinds of videos 👍

That fenced off area was a Stuckeys. Back in the 70's my family had to pull into Stuckeys due to a serve sandstorm. I remember my dad's 72 F250 with our camper got its whole grille area sand blasted. I also remember my mom giving a blanket to a couple of bikers to cover their harleys at the time. Old boomer here!

The machine next to the gas pump is where you would pay for gas, when Arco was doing it that way. For awhile, most Arco stations had you pay at a machine that wasn’t where you pumped the gas, it was a little odd. The only plus for the machine was that if you wanted to pay in cash you didn’t have to go inside. Then Arco changed it to pay at your pump.
@vegasr8iders43

Yup. ARCOs in SoCal would only take cash or debit, no credit at the time. They would charge you a transaction fee if you used debit. Now taking credit cards.

Yeah I never carried any plastic on me, I would only pay cash for things I bought back then, so those machines were convenient for me not needing to go inside and stand in line.

Can confirm. That was the older style of payment, which for us in Eugene, Or, would allow bills. Maybe that one would still take cash, but like others, most likely defunct and not worth the cost to remove.

FYI That extra machine at the Arco was probably a central point of paying for gas and picking which pump, they have since replaced their pumps to pay at each pump We had an Arco here in Washington like that

My wife and I made that drive last year because of your previous video when you stopped at the alien jerky place, and we loved it! There’s also a pretty cool place to check out if you ever make that drive again, it’s called Calico Ghost Town. If you’ve never been there, I highly recommend it. Lots of history, and they also put on a pretty cool thing for Halloween.

I remember there was a cool fifth wheel horse box being pulled by a pickup, we don't have anything like that in the UK. Love USA, just so different to the UK! Man, I'm only four minutes into this video and loving it already! :D

Those prospectors outside Terrible's actually date from 1954 and were built by YESCO (makers of the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign, and many others) in their Salt Lake City factory. They originally sat on the roof of the Lucky Strike Club in Downtown Vegas until 1963 when that casino was dismantled (now taken over by the Golden Nugget). They were saved and moved outside the Gold Strike Inn casino near Boulder City, NV (now the Hoover Dam Lodge) where they remained until 1998 when that casino burned down. Again they were saved and were moved to their current spot in Jean, NV and left there til this day. Fun fact, when they sat on the roof of the Lucky Strike Club, they were electro-mechanical and their gold pans moved from side-to-side and the "gold" inside them lit up. Would love to see them saved and preserved

That abandoned water park used to be called Lake Delores. They used to have commercials for it all the time here in LA. You can still find them on You Tube. This latest failed incarnation was called "Rock-A-Hula water park. Supposedly its been purchased (again) and they want to try redeveloping it.

16:18 in 1978 i hitchhiked across the country. when i made it to Baker i got a job at the gas station across the street from that motel. it was owned by the gas station owner along with the bar next to the station (long ago demolished). he hired me and the pay was minimum wage (I believe it was $2.65 at the time), a room in the motel and one meal a day at the bar.

That water park started out as Lake Dolores in the 50's. It was initially closed in late 80's, that's when I saw it in first abandoned state going back and forth to Vegas as a kid . Apparently it reopened in mid 90s. And closed than reopened again in 2002 then finally closed in 2004.

That shake looked good! We have a business here that serves a beverage in 2 different carry out cups, claiming one to be a medium and the other to be a large, when, in fact, the cups are the same size. I bought both and after consuming them, added water to large cup and poured it into the medium cup. They were the same. They charge 1,50 more for the large size. Now, when I go there, I order the medium size.

a water park in the desert sounds like a good idea unless you know how hard it is to get water to the desert and that they have a lot of trouble getting enough water just for people to survive in most cases then you'd realize its a money pit which might be what the mobsters wanted a place to launder money!
