Enchanted April is a beautiful 1991 film directed by Mike Newell, adapted from this book . Filmed at the same villa in Portofino where von Armin wrote the novel. I was lucky enough to have seen it in a theater. Enchanting. Excellent narration.

My favorite movie. Transformation or more humanly, opening one's heart, becomes a gentle flowering for these ladies. So happy to see this posting; thank you and for the sensitive narration.

The narrator is excellent - Helen Taylor - which is rare for "in the public domain" LibriVox recordings. Given that recording those books is a good thing, the narrators are usually dreadful. Helen Taylor's narration is so good that looking out for others she has done is well worth it.

Great narration but this is one instance where the movie is so much better than the book. There are parts of the book that just waffle on a bit. The movie also has benefit of scenery.

Another way in which the movie wins, is the slight alteration to Mr Briggs: in the film, his eyes have been affected in the war, so he is unable to see Lady Caroline's stunning beauty, and when she realises this, and sees that he loves her nevertheless, her own affections are captured. She is sooo fed up of being an exhibition for everyone to gawk at!

Helen Taylor, Your reading is delicious. You have the cheering effect of marshmallows steeped in foggy swirl of hot chocolate on a rain-swathed morning. I'll look you up for more.

More than one hour in and find it boring and without the lovely characterisations of other authors of this era, and an almost feminist critique of marriage/husbands. Nah, not for me.

Too bad u didnt stick with it. Turns into, not critique of husbands, but of themselves. A sweet ending, if u like such things.
