Sounds like a film that is not even equal to the sum of its parts. “Dogville” meets “Dancer in the Dark” meets “Festen” set in the “Superman” ice cave but with salt. Also, 150 minutes of singing dialogue: not with a bang but with a whimper, pace T.S. Eliot?

Just got out of a screening. Really don't know what to think. Its too ambitious for its own good, but I do admire how original and creative it was. Far too long, and the cast can't really carry many of the musical numbers. I did actually enjoy the music on its own, and I love musicals in general, but I couldn't help thinking it would have worked better as just a straightforward non-musical piece. Still, the acting was all very good, and it looked gorgeous. As many flaws as it has, I would much rather this kind of thing be made than Red One or a hundred new comic book movies.
