Absolutely agree. Sometimes you do have to take a step back and 'refresh your mojo' if you will. It was @InterCity82 who got me watching KZbin videos and that led me on to others, including Charlie at Chadwick, Jenny, 00Bill and Oscar Paisley who does some proper vintage stuff. It'll be interesting to see what comes next tbh.

A hundred shows! Well done sir. Craig, you near had me in tears, but don't be angry. Most of your early life mirrors so many more of us and it brought back a lot of memories. We were Live on the night of the Lock-Down being announced and as you say, Jenny and Zoe helped so many of us pull through, I owe them so much too. We started out in the shed but after the break-in and Jenny moved the lay-out to the loft...but I won't forget that night. At one point I did 6 live streams in one day and I can't thank all those folks enough for the trust they put in me. I think I've moderated on about 16 channels over this past 6 years and if I was asked to do it again, I would. With good folks like yourself and quite a few of the folks you mentioned there, it's been a pleasure. A lot of other things have gone astray and will never be the same, as they continue to do. That's life. I might be 'confined' but there's still things I have to do and get on with daily so I really do understand about family and work making demands. This is, after all, a hobby and there's bills need paying first. Time to yourself and family is so important too. As a father of two myself, when I was able to work, I had to cope with all these pressures too. ("Flymo-4 Jobs") I'm sure you'll agree though, that It's been quite a learning experience for sure and having you around made such a good contrast to us Old Greys.(Well my beard comes in, grey!) So I hope we'll see you on Monday! If not, don't worry. We'll catch the next video... All the best Big Man. See you in the streams! Cheers!

I’ve been watching your videos for a couple of years now Craig but never commented until recently, once I started my channel. I only started LJ as a way to share updates on my layout to three work mates at the start and it grew from there. At that point, I realised it’s sometimes important to comment on videos but now it’s almost a full evenings work if not two each time I upload. When you called out my channel on an episode and subscribed to me I was chuffed mate I really was. As I saw you as a proper KZbinr for the hobby. I always wanted a decent layout as a kid but parents could never afford it then I grew up and it was my my daughters toy train set (wooden) that made me want one, she too lasted about 10 minutes before getting bored! Anyway, I’ll certainly stay tuned for when you do something else, I’ll certainly try to get across to that event next month and if not I’m sure I’ll spot you at a show one day - I’ll know you but you won’t know me! 😆 anyway I’m typing this on my phone in the car having just finished work and I can’t remember what I’ve typed vs what I’m thinking so I’ll just say take it easy and be back soon pal 👍

Committing to a new video was always brave, so I understand your decision. Don’t be hard on yourself, though, or think you might be treading on others’ toes. I have been in a similar situation as i have been working whilst trying to get a maisonette flat I have purchased ready for me to move into and most of my evenings and weekends (that i usually go volunteering at the Severn Valley Railway) have been taken up by decorating and sorting out all of the other items like utility companies and items to fit in the property to make it more livable. Its the main reason why I haven't been seen in the comments much on Jenny's live streams recently. Hopefully in July I should be back to some normal service.

what I enjoy watching are 5 - 10 minute videos on running and playing trains. A bit of input and what people are doing with their hobby. Every now and then something a little different, but at the end of the day I want the creator to enjoy the hobby

Hi Craig, will miss the weekly vids. Always great content. But I understand, a bit of a thankless task, at times being a KZbinr. I'm newbie back to the hobby. Your emotional childhood experiences and ' reasons ' why you got into this strange hobby were very similar to mine. As ever you explained it so well, as so many ' normal' people dont understand. I'm now nudging 60, like you the early memories of the 'railway thing' will never be forgotten. Dad died when I was 8, mum bought my first trainset not long after. Will never forget the hornby class 37 and a couple of mk 2 coaches. Given at Christmas. Then went on Golden Rail holidays, mainly scotland. Listening to you reminds me why the hobby, for me has been such a calming, enjoyable pastime. So you can cope with some of the crap life occasionally throws at us. A great coping strategies this hobby can be. 100 vids and the best yet. Look forward to future content when you are able. Going to try to get to the weathering tutorial if I can at DCC Concepts. All the best Mike andy dog Stan. 😊

Totally understand your decision. Very much like the one I took with ‘my other channel’. It takes so much of one’s life to make a YT video and takes so little effort for another player to down-thumb or make a snarky comment because they feel they need to, because they don’t agree. But they don’t take into account the effort and commitment behind the vid. As you said IHR, its years of effort and commitment before even a moderate amount of success comes to a channel on YT. Take the time of course, but when I decided the same it actually felt like a loss, almost like you’ve broken up with a partner or something. Really weird. If this happens to you then it passes quick, and the next thing you do will feel so fresh and free of baggage. I am sure you’ll love that feeling and I wish you all the best 👍🏼

Oh mate, so much to say. I loved hearing about your memories, fantastic stuff (hint) I think true enthusiasts will understand that. I'm not gonna lie I was worried you were giving up so I'm glad that's not the case. Clearly there's been a parting of the ways, the trouble is, it's very hard to remain objective and be 'freinds' with one particular brand or supplier particulary the big ones. Most are there for one thing. I've fallen out with some as well because it's become too money grabbing. KZbin can be a very hard task master and if like you and me, you have other commitments then the pressure to perform actually end up styfuling creativity and as you found just burns you out mate. Better to go a month between videos and enjoy the process and result than to force yourself to upload to a schedule. Hang in there buddy, rediscover the joy of the hobby for yourself before you worry about us lot out here lol we'll wait gretfully for your next film. No pressure, much care and respect. Mike.

best advice I can give you is just do what you enjoy and if its becoming a "job" probably a good idea to take a step back as you're doing, I don't subscribe but I watch you now and again if the subject interests me. I just prefer mainly repair videos as that is what I like doing but I wouldn't suggest you focus on that, so many niches and interests in a rather niche and varied hobby I guess. Best of luck in whatever direction you decide to take it.

I'm sorry the negativity of some folks has been wearing you down a bit, but I totally understand the want to step back and have a think about what you want to do going forward. Thought and change are good things, and above all, doing what makes you personally happy is the most important thing. When a hobby becomes work, it's always good to assess your priorities, and figure out your best path. A little side note: your description of how your channel started out has me thinking. I'm going to go talk to my dad about going out to the hardware store to pick up some of the stuff I need to start making a baseboard to really get started on my own model railway. No time like the present. And it's you that's inspired it.

Hi Criag, I love your content, & I don't know how you have managed to put out weekly videos for so long given how busy life is. I think whatever you put out in the future will be a success and you will get plenty of views. Enjoy some time for yourself, and hope to see some content in the future. You are a natural presenter, and speak so freely. No umms or errs. Enjoy the break. I will follow you on Facebook, didn't realise you had a page! All the best, Nick

Sorry to hear that you won't be doing the weekly videos anymore. I have really enjoyed them and the content you put into them. Understandable that life goes on outside of KZbin and even the most basic of videos take some doing to bring together. Keep your chin up and hope to see something from you soon even if it is monthly. All the best for the future.

@@IronHorseRailways it works for other channels doing it less and keeping it fresh. You do what makes you happy no point it feeling like have to do something just spoils the enjoyment.

Sorry that this is your last installment in this format and i'm sure that IHR will rise again in perhaps a new way like a Phoenix from the flames as your natural enthusiasm will always come through. I have always enjoyed your content and as someone who has spent a fortune over the past few years I have found truth and to some extent relief in your pieces direct to camera echoing my own frustrations, in some way you gave me a public voice. I however recognise that u tube can be a very harsh place consuming huge time resources with often very little reward aside criticism with people actively choosing to take offence where none is given, there are some very delicate egos out there! Your channel has certainly been a positive in the world of railway modelling and one I shall personally miss very much. Thanks for all the content and I hope that you are back grinning through my screen very very soon! All the very best - Paul

I really don't want to say this, but: you have had a great interest in trains and model railways, and good on you! Fantastic stuff, love the things. The bit I'm going to say/ask: why a youtube channel? Lots of subscribers. Okay, has that helped enjoy your model trains? I appreciate you wanted to emulate some youtubers, but again, your interest was originally the trains? The number of subscribers. Okay, is it a competitive event? Part of a youtube in crowd? I'm just really curious. To me it's a bit like reading the railway modeller. Does that make one have a need to start a magazine? Everyone has reasons for doing and enjoying what they do, but obviously the youtube thing hasn't worked out, but apart from emulating some youtubers, it sounds like not has it helped your actual hobby, but actually had the reverse effect. Maybe it should be reflected as to why you really wanted to have a channel. Well done on the 100 videos (of course) but I've watched a lot of your videos and in all honesty I feel your original hobby has been seconded to youtube. Enjoy your trains, that's where your enthusiasm originally lay. Take care of yourself, really sounds like youtube has ended up becoming a demon in your life, and the popularity of views of subscribers or whatever: has that become your earnest desire?

Tbh, it's not a demon and I absolutely love sharing the hobby with everyone, and I enjoy it as Part of the hobby, I just need some down time for a while 🙂 Thanks mate! I appreciate it!🙂

Jennifer E Kirk is another one who's recently cut back on the amount of YT content she does. She said I have a full time job and I'm just going to burn out if I keep going at the rate I am. The American work ethic is alive and well on YT of working constantly without break. But if you have a family it's not much fun for them for they don't get much of a look in as YT dominates your spare time and that's not right. Family and full time work must always come first and social media can take a back seat. I don't know what your particular circumstances are Craig but whatever you decide I wish you all the best. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺.

Well I will also miss my weekly escape from my mundane life…. I must say I’m not 100% surprised by this announcement, you seem to have been in a bit of burn out over the last few months. A loss of focus… change to N scale….. change back….. go from modern image OO to 1960s…. YouTubing I’m sure takes a big toll in itself….. Charlie at Chadwick a few years ago went from weekly to fortnightly purely due to time constraints and having a life outside KZbin as I recall. There are many channels out there now, with new ones popping up every month, but being unique is one of your greatest strengths. Having a rant video (tongue-in-cheek) I personally found refreshing, as well as enjoyable. Do what makes you happy in life Craig… I for one won’t criticise you for needing to prioritise your life buddy. Good luck…. And I will click as and when you do post any other videos…

Hi. At first I thought you were completely going to but glad to find out it’s just the weekly episodes. I knew something was going on as you were no longer replying to comments. I can only imagine how much time it takes as it’s extremely time consuming. Playing trains and doing videos! lol. My only advice is do not allow the making of videos ruin your enjoyment of the hobby and passion you have for railways. Like you, I have similar fond memories of Hattons (not beatties, too expensive). Think positive, onward and upward Craigie boy!
