@doordedeur The rate of uploads makes that very difficult to police. The other issue is it endorses a system of only free speech which has been sanctioned. That isn't free. Suggesting an unworkable ideal is promoting the dystopian movement in spite of how US people just voted. No one was listening 20 years ago. Despite all those who now suddenly see the problem, it is far too late to fix it. What is set in motion has gained enough momentum to become an unstoppable force. And now people want to stop it.

You can write a prompt like 'I am a motoring journalist, give me a 1000 word summary of the Morris Marina. Concentrate on the poor aspects. Make the article as humorous and negative as possible'. Voila, you can copy, paste, and publish the results in seconds (instant Clarkson). Investigative journalism is expensive, so half the articles on websites like The Daily Mail are written this way to get cheap clicks and advertising revenue. Only answer is to upvote human content and ignore AI.
@tomdrivesАй бұрын
Exactly that, it will get worse if we all don't get on the same page.
@miguelcardoso1903Ай бұрын
What ChatGPT returns from your prompt. I confess it gave me some giggles and resembles a bit Clarson's style, but it's not facutally correct in some details, even if you count the humorous style "The Morris Marina: A Masterclass in Mediocrity Ah, the Morris Marina. If the automotive world were a high school, the Marina would be the kid who gets picked last for every team, is never the class clown, but somehow always manages to have his lunch stolen. The car that nobody particularly wanted, but somehow, for reasons that defy logic, was still everywhere. The Marina, born out of a dream (or perhaps a nightmare) in the early 1970s, has since gone down in history as one of the most tragically misunderstood, underwhelming and comically poor examples of automotive design ever to roll off a production line. Let’s be clear from the get-go: the Marina wasn’t bad because it was old. No, it was bad because it was designed in an era where the British car industry thought that sheer mediocrity was somehow an acceptable standard. The car was launched in 1971 as a direct competitor to the likes of the Ford Escort and Vauxhall Viva, but where the competition was at least vaguely competent, the Marina offered the driving experience equivalent of getting stuck in a traffic jam on the way to a dentist appointment. For seven years. The Styling: "So Unremarkable, It's Remarkable" Looking at the Marina is like looking at a box of bland biscuits. Not even the interesting ones that might have a bit of jam in them-just plain, dry, beige biscuits. The Marina’s styling was about as exciting as watching paint dry on a damp wall, and equally as inspiring. It had the sort of face that wouldn’t even bother trying to get a second glance. Its front end looked as if it had been smacked repeatedly with the ugly stick, while the rear end seemed to have been designed by a committee who’d lost the memo about symmetry. In the hands of the design team at British Leyland, the Marina’s proportions were almost absurd. The car’s roofline resembled an ironing board, the front end looked like a stretched-out Austin 1100, and the rear end had the distinct elegance of a poorly assembled garden shed. The fact that the Marina had all the charm of a lumpy potato is part of what made it so utterly forgettable. The Marina wasn’t designed to stand out; it was designed to blend into the background like wallpaper in an old people's home. A car for people who didn’t want to be noticed. Ever. Build Quality: The Horror Stories Are Real Now, if you were fortunate enough to actually make it inside the Morris Marina-after an extended wrestling match with the stiff door hinges-you’d be greeted by what can only be described as ‘interior choice-challenged.’ The seats, covered in what seemed like a cross between sandpaper and recycled cardboard, were a constant reminder that British Leyland had mastered the art of uncomfortable seating. The dashboard, a depressing sea of plastic and vinyl, was designed to make you feel like you’d been locked in a cheap motel room in the '70s. The instruments were a joke too. Gauges that didn’t work, or, at best, told you things that were completely irrelevant, such as the amount of air in the tyres you hadn’t inflated in years. But the true testament to the Marina’s ‘build quality’ was the sheer frequency with which the car fell apart. The doors rattled like a ghost was trapped inside. The paintwork, if you were lucky enough to get any at all, was known to fade within a fortnight, leaving the car looking as though it had been subjected to a constant barrage of acid rain. By the end of its first year, a Marina could resemble a piece of Swiss cheese, with rust holes appearing in places you didn’t know were even part of the car. There are stories of people picking up a Marina and driving it off the lot, only to have it break in half before they could even reach the first traffic light. In fact, the Marina’s reputation for rust was so legendary that it’s said if you stood still next to one for too long, the metal would start to corrode at the mere thought of you. Rust was not an 'optional extra' on the Marina; it was an integral part of the car’s charm, as synonymous with the Marina as tea is with a soggy biscuit. The Engine: The Sound of Misery If you were the sort of masochist who actually drove a Marina, you would have been blessed with an engine that was best described as ‘irritating.’ Initially powered by an underwhelming 1.3-litre engine (later joined by a 1.8-litre unit), the Marina’s powertrain was so lacklustre that accelerating from 0 to 60mph felt like an endurance event for both driver and passenger. It was less of a performance car and more of an existential experience-driving a Marina forced you to reconsider all of your life choices. If you were expecting any sort of ‘thrill’ in your driving experience, you were sorely mistaken. The Marina’s engine struggled to produce even the sort of performance that would get a mobility scooter out of a sticky situation. You might manage 60mph on a flat road, provided there was a headwind and a solid push from behind, but any sort of incline would see the engine begging for mercy. The Marina’s engine had the enthusiasm of a retired accountant being asked to run a marathon. What’s worse, it sounded like a bag of nails being thrown down a flight of stairs. If you were lucky enough to get the engine to run smoothly for more than a few days, it was only a matter of time before one of the many components failed. The Marina’s engine had a tendency to sound like it was on the verge of self-destructing at all times, and while that added an element of excitement, it wasn’t the kind you wanted in a car. Handling: "The Epitome of 'Meh'" As for the handling, well, let’s just say that the Marina's steering felt like it was connected to the wheels via a bowl of porridge. If you had hoped for anything resembling ‘precision,’ you might as well have been looking for it in a bowl of spaghetti. The car's suspension seemed to have been designed to make the driver feel like they were sitting in a foam mattress that had been filled with wet concrete. Corners? The Marina took them with all the grace of a drunk elephant trying to perform ballet. Understeer was its primary form of communication with the road, and if you took a tight corner too quickly, it would remind you that the laws of physics were very much against you. Handling was a suggestion, not a promise. The Legacy: A Museum of Regret And yet, despite all this, the Marina was produced in large numbers. People bought them. People drove them. But people also soon realised the folly of their ways, as the car’s list of faults quickly became legendary. While some cars have earned a place in history because of their brilliance, the Morris Marina has earned its place as the poster child for British automotive failure. It was, and still is, a byword for mediocrity. A car designed to make you long for the comfort and reassurance of a Ford Escort. If anything, the Marina’s legacy is a cautionary tale in how a car can fail to deliver on every possible level. For the person who truly wanted a car that was dull, painful to drive, eternally rusty, and just generally bad at existing-there was the Morris Marina. In the end, we can only admire the Marina for one thing: it took everything wrong with the British car industry in the 1970s and bottled it up in a depressingly beige package. It wasn’t good at anything, but it was superb at making you wonder why you didn’t just take the bus."

An excellent look at this issue. We research and write books about classic motoring and it takes many hours to create a factual and enjoyable story for a book. We've tested AI and found it to be pretty inaccurate when cross referencing data. This reinforced our efforts in actually interviewing the people who were there and undertook part of history.

You raised plenty of great points; AI - much like toxic waste in rusty oil drums dumped somewhere - may not only harm us in the present but also could poison future generations down the line. One thing that makes it so dangerous is how we got used to so much to looking up information anytime that "knowing stuff" became less important. This is why the onslaught of generated nonsense will hurt us even more, because we are losing a bedrock of knowledge upon which we can make our informed judgement. In such a climate it is especially important to support the creators and the publications that you enjoy and trust. This is why I am still subscribed to a classic car and motorbike publication even these days. Besides, there is something satisfying in the touch, the smell and the sound of paper as you are turning the pages.

5 stars excellent video. To use this as an example, as this covers every topic/subject in existence. Your wealth of personal knowledge/research etc you have done on classic cars, gives you the ability to spot fact from fiction. If there was a topic that one wasn't so educated on ( lets say train bridges) just shows how dependent world has become for "instant answers" & be misled. As you say "it infects & grows over time distorting the actual truth/reality" It is very spooky. Fault lies not in the AI but those people/organisations that are using/publishing "content" trying to pass it off as real

Seriously though it is a problem and will only get worse as AI improves. They will cut out the six fingers and the dodgy text and become more polished until it is impossible to tell the difference between a generated image and real life. There will be historians in the future who's whole life work will be to decode pictures to understand if they are real of fake. On the other hand AI can produce some amazing things and my current favourite is actually a fantasy car. Purporting to be a Mercedes it is a micro car that looks like a mash up of a 300SL with a Fiat 600 with a bit of Isetta thrown in. It is not a perfect render, there are some odd things going on around the door for instance, but I can tell you now that if I ever get the chance I will build it for real.

AI also effects actual artists. it takes away the effort from their work. AI can replicate your work with a description. It not only takes away your effort, but also labour and monetisation to sell your Art. Like React videos, it takes away of labour and algorithms to promote your work as content creator or artist.

Good point, I agree with you there.

Most of the human race has already stopped critically analyzing where our news comes from and what it's telling us; why should anyone think that we're suddenly going to do that with potentially AI generated content?

Too true, there has been videos of the new Morris minor, MB MGB and Citroen DS. They all have the same horrible voice with spelling mistakes etc. Get rid of them, please.

This is digital “book burning” and it is hugely dangerous. A badly distorted allegro is one thing. Showing a video of someone in power saying something completely different to what they actually said - and causing a riot. That is the problem.

If people click on these misleading AI content like you say it will swamp the real content. Which will get harder to find in time.

Hosting platforms could screen and force an ai hologram on content unless the creator clearly states it is ai. Theirs enough tell tale fingerprints at least in images , videos tht theyir fake. Text is more subjective but as a lot of it is text from elswhere , its likely a script or copied So for it a duplicate grading score could be applied. That would get rid of the worst offenders

You Tube's algorithm keeps pushing this AI car slop to me and every single video gets the "Don't recommend channel" treatment. They're fairly easy to spot as the video's channel usually has a weirdly generic name. I suppose you could justifiably report the videos for spreading misinformation, although I doubt that would have much effect.

I've recently stopped watching a couple of long time subscribed (non motoring) channels because of the use of up to 50% AI Images. I hate it....but im old and remember VHS and Beta coming out 😂

Agreed changing history is never a good thing. In the area of AI generated cars, I can't help but laugh. Thinking about that poor sap, that will spend his life looking for a car that doesn't exist.

I hate generated you tube videos but l am doing quizzes on classic cars Al generated but the narrator is Al generated and they show a picture and you have to pick from four answers from a list of cars and the narrator referred to the Mk 1 Lotus Cortina as a sports car what its a two door saloon and as for with the year 1965 a human says nineteen sixty five with the Al narrator they pronounce it as one nine six five obviously Al has a long way to go l only watch you tube videos with such as your were there is a human fronting the camera and getting the particular car getting ir right

I know one vid seem convincing but as AI generation pictures start popping up i stop watching. But laugh at one saying Kingswood is going to return, young generation wouldn't know what Holden Kingswood is last been WB in 1985. While some designs are good, others like tractors is what 3 year old could imagine. YT should be posting n deleting these vids, as Chat GTP? Its ok but i am still cautious that could be making mistakes.
