Having started in the industry with embedded systems development shortly after 1970, we used slide rules to estimate non-linear circuits behaviors , discreet logic in the HW, we hand taped circuit board layouts, and pre-OS work was all in primitive assembly. (See AMD 2900 bit slice sequencers for fun.) Around a decade later we were using automated layout, scientific calculators, compilers, PLAs, etc. No one imagined letting go of engineers, other than any who couldn't adapt. Instead, we were just asked to adapt and learn to do a greater volume of more sophisticated work with shorter schedules, and also to resolve more difficult defects. That trend of change has persisted since. I doubt this time is different.

Yes, Devins will replace many engineers, will do many jobs engineers do now, like the old hand made jobs now been made by machines and computers, but we will adopt too and we will use Devins as we use computers today.

Devin for sure is a glimpse of where we are heading to; nevertheless, if you watch the video closely, DEVIN requires a detailed input prompt. Currently, you still need a Himan for that-

A lot of the tech companies had already started laying off soft Engineers. Yes, Devin is the replacement. It's just a transition to a new ERA of expansion. Software Engineers also can extended or develop themselves to something wonderful! It's not regression but a change.

Chatgpt really blew up just over a year ago and they've now come up with Devin. Just wait until more companies try to make their own version of Devin, they will keep making it better and better. In my opinion, yes it's over, and sooner than you think. Pursuing a job as a software engineer, an entry level software engineer might not be worth it,

Will roles of Data Scientist/Analytics will get hugely affected in upcoming years? I am willing to choose data science as my career path and now I am getting double-minded. Please suggest anyone???

Sundas, I don't prefer anyone to get into the IT Industry as a Degree Program. Instead, choose something else.

I really enjoy your content, it’s really nice simple and updating. About TOOLS like Devin AI, as a DS in DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, I truly believe it would be for the best bc it has the potential to boost our work if we of course take aventage of it. It is a tool, not Skynet

It seems that we are severely incapable of grasping exponential progress. The speed at which progress is happening, from the birth of the internet, to web 2, to now LLM's is so incomprehensible that we keep extrapolating linearly, when the progress that's being made isn't. Most cognition will be replaced by AI in the next 10 years, regardless of its type. What we have been good at as humans is following instructions of other humans (learning by imitation), and making inferences. Both of those cognitive processes are being adopted at speed. We might be the ones verifying the work of the AI's, but soon (somewhere the next decade) a whole army of models will be used to perform the usual cognitive tasks that we used to be hired for. Looking at the layoffs in the techindustry is bleak, but it's realistic. The gap between junior and senior knowledge workers is widening, where at some point it won't be worth diving into a cognitive-oriented career unless you're willing to reach PhD-level expertise, because that's what will be required to command the army of models that companies will be using.

I am working on embodied AGI in robotics. What we have internally is already capable of replacing the vast majority of the average software engineers. And know what? It'll be great. The average engineers are trash and replacing them is long overdue.

@DaPhreshestKidd We have more technology than 60 years ago but we are less happy, the salary and time are not enough for anything, it is difficult to even think about having children... technology saves us more time in daily tasks but Why we have less time to enjoy life ?
