Perfect example of someone completely over exaggerating and fabricating years after the fact. While you personally and maybe a few others disliked the casting choice of Matt Smith, there was no wide-scale dislike of Smith for this role like you’re suggesting and implying. That’s like one person and their friend saying they don’t like a casting and then you running wild saying “ALLOT of people didn’t like the casting!!”. Literally no one even knew what the character of Daemon was so why would there be some sort of strong dislike of him being cast for this show?? Your comment makes no sense and is based on something that didn’t happen. There was no widespread dislike of Matt Smith being cast in House of the Dragon. People either didn’t even know who he was (because Dr. Who isn’t as popular as you think) or didn’t know anything about the show so the general consensus was that there literally was no opinion either which way.

Exactly but Cersei herself was blonde so it’s a little bit more believable than having literally platinum blond hair with brown haired children from a black husband 😂 so yeah , at this point i think no one cares anymore lol
@lilchaos921210 күн бұрын
Okay but those two instances arent the same at all? Cersei herself was blonde, her entire family is blond, so it would make sense that her children could be blond. Not everyone knew about the Baratheon seed being "strong", so they could overlook a blonde woman having blond children. Whereas Rhaenyra, Laenor, and their wider family are all white haired and none of them have brown hair, brown eyes, and pug noses. Those traits literally don't exist in their family for the Strong boys to inherit, especially OVER the Valerian features which literally every other member of their family have. Alicent has brown hair and green eyes, like the rest of her family, and yet Viserys' Targaryen features dominated hers in all four of their children. Rhaena and Baela inherited the features of Laena and Daemon. The Strong boys looking nothing like Rhaenyra or Laenor, while being practically mini Harwin Strongs, would be way harder to overlook than Cersei's kids being blond. People weren't oblivious, everyone knew that they weren't Laenor's and that Harwin was their dad, it was just considered treason to say anything because Rhaenyra and Viserys wanted to pretend that they were legitimate. Everyone knew, but no one could say anything.

Exactly. Rhaenyra outright says that they tried to have a child (fun or not given Laenor's romantic preferences) but she didn't conceive by him. We know the fertility problem isn't with her, so either they didn't try often enough or, more like, Laenor was infertile. The only 'problem' is that if Rhae had been really cunning she would've found a member of the Velaryon household to have at least *one* kid with (preferably the eldest) that could believably be passed off as Laenor's kid regardless of what hair color they came out with. Strongs' have very strong genetics so ironically if she'd had a baby with someone else they probably would've inherited her silver hair (like all of Alicent's children did even with only one Targaryen parent).

Another great one Brad! I feel the need to point out that when Aemond and Vhagar and chasing Lucerys and Arrax, Aemond is talking to Luke initially in High Valyrian. This is important because dragons will only obey High Valyrian (according to the lore). When Aemond starts to lose control of Vhagar, he starts speaking English, so all Vhagar knows is that Aemond was threatening Luke and Arrax and that Arrax just shot fire at her face. Thus, she of course killed them because that’s what she thought Aemond wanted and that Arrax was a threat. Lots of theories out there on why Vhagar didn’t obey, but many don’t look at the scene and rather the history (which is important, but not as much as people are theorizing in this scene)
@JustMe_Jessi9 күн бұрын
Also the lore included the bond between dragon and rider, so Aemond's rage would be feeding into Vhagar's FAFO battle baddie. If you watch the scene after Aemond claims Vhagar and gets into the fight in the tunnel with his nephews and cousins, when Aemond is cut and screams, you can hear Vhagar roar too; that rage Aemond has felt towards his nephews has been there the ENTIRE time Aemond and Vhagar have been bonded, so when Arrax acts to defend Luc (feeling Luc's fear, adding to their own, trying to defend Luc), Vhagar *IMMEDIATELY* reacts even though you can see Aemond's shock that he's off'd his nephew since he especially understands what that then means for his house. I really like how this series gives us a lot more insight into the ways in which dragons bond with their riders, their relationships with each other, and how we get the camera shots of the dragon's eye, which ties in with book lore of dragon's being able to see into a person's heart.

It didn’t matter what Viserys said or didn’t say or what Alicent believed or not, Otto would’ve crowned Aegon ANYWAY. What Rheanyra gave birth to in the last episode was a child with too much dragon's blood. Lore says the Targaryans long ago added dragon blood to their own. So for them, keeping pure bloodlines isn't just about royal rights - it's about having enough dragon riders. Daemon and the Queen's blood is not just incest but sometimes brings children with too much dragon in them.
@c342thedroid28 күн бұрын
I don't remember the lore explicitly saying that. It is implied. And we don't know if the lizard babies are because of too much dragon blood. Another theory could be that in needing to keep the blood pure to preserve the dragon blood when introducing external blood it destabilises the balance of the dragon genes. The way Valyrian genes are engineered to be impervious to incest but not normal blood. Or maybe they're being poisoned and the dragon features are a symptom of the magical blood trying to cleanse the poison, or sickness, or a deformity. Maybe it's a developmental process and they all look like that at certain stages of the gestation.

In the books, Rhaenys, Laenor and Laenas mother had dark hair. So the legitimacy of Rhaenyras children was definitely more of the Green Council just being straight up petty with no actual ground to stand on. In the show they clearly wanted it to be obvious. But it doesn’t matter because Viserys and Corlys and Laenor claim those children, so they’re legitimate by law.

We also don't know for sure the colour of Harwin's hair. The only Strong of which we knew the hair colour of had blonde hair. And it seems there is this misunderstanding that it's implied Harwin did have dark hair because the children are described as "resembling him" in their dark hair, eyes and pug noses. Which is what fed the rumours. They were not. They are described as having those features, yes, but as opposed to Laenor's own, so, that they did not resemble him, nor did they Rhaenyra though. It is not actually written that they look like Harwin. They are described as common. The greens assume Harwin to be the father because he was always with Rhae. However, it could probably be the case that there were at least blonde people in House Strong if Harwin's the father, which Rhaenyra maybe hoped would contribute to the chances of her children being born on the fairer side. Maybe Harwin was blonde as a babe, who knows. George likes to play on this. They could still have been legitimate Valaryons, however unlikely, especially given in the books the Valaryons are not black (although given in the show Laenor is only half...). George himself shows the Green boys all light-haired despite their mother being dark and thus having a 50% chance. We don't know for certain how dominant and recessive genes work either in this world. Although the main theory in this case is First Men > Valyrian > everyone else. I think he wrote it to be open-ended on purpose. To be unclear and cause mayhem and doubt. And because with this style of writing he could just leave it at that. The greens are just petty and power-hungry as you said. What's key is that those children were loved and accepted. They were the ones making issues about it.

I've read the books pretty long time ago but there is one thing that I remember clearly: I frickin hate Criston Cole, he has the worst personality of them all, lol. (Imagine, in the books he was even worst than he's in the show 💀) He is a man who's talking the most about honor but have no honor at all. He's pathetic, hateful, impulsive, narcissist, no true knight. He is very skilled in combat but that alone doesn't making him a knight.

Fun fact: I met Matt Smith twice at London comic con in November 2022 and July 2023, and at one of his talks the con hosted, he said both he and Emma were SO confused about the choking scene 😭 they both apparently were like “????” to each other because neither of them thought it made any sense. The writers of HOTD are hopelessly AWFUL, to the point where after S2 GRRM himself made blog posts about his disappointment with the series. Season 2 was so bad it made Season 1 look like a MASTERPIECE.
@maggierappa41710 күн бұрын
To be fair: the “disappointment” was that 1 character was excluded, and nothing about literally every other little detail fans complained about. And it was deleted like a day later

Season two has good moments to it but overall it's meh, while season one has some questionable decisions but is overall fine
@Tooba-K1239 күн бұрын
Season 2 would've been fine but they really ruined Alicent, Rhaenyra and Helaena too much towards the end by continuously whitewashing them when there's no reason to. Not to mention some of the direction of the scenes are terrible choices like the whole B&C sequence, all RhaeLicent meetups, AliCole, and the dream sequence with Helaena towards the end to the guy she should be despising for taking away what's important of her.

Viserys does say "my love." According to the actor, he sees Aemma and considers her his true wife. Though he probably shouldn't have let the maesters kill her if that were the case.

Also the diva dragon that Daemon sings to at the end is Vermithor. The old king (who only appears in the first episode briefly and then dies so Viserys can become king) rode him.

Brad you aren’t crazy!!! It’s GOT/Targaryen lore that their stillborns are human-dragon creatures. The fertility of the dragons is also tied to the fertility of the Targaryens. Syrax is a mega producer in the same way we see Rhaenyra popping out 6 kids. The first Targaryens used blood magic to make them easier to control thereby effectively making dragons apart of their very being. Blood of the dragon isn’t too far off in reality.

No, bc im with Alicent on that one, i would be LIVID if people knocked on my door in the middle of the night saying that someone just took my kid's eye.
@maggierappa41710 күн бұрын
Literally. Was it right to say Lucerys should lose an eye as well, no. But was it absolutely understandable to want some kind of punishment, absolutely. She’s right, her son is permanently scarred and will be remembered as such. The other kids just got a little scratched up.
@tsubaki.350010 күн бұрын
@maggierappa417 Right! In fact, I truly believe that the show Alicent wouldn't have had instantly the idea of taking one of Lucerys' eyes, I think her saying that was an impulsive and desperate act after realizing that the other children wouldn't be disciplined or punished in any way. Alicent in the books was wild, the show one, not so much.
@nanireactssss8 күн бұрын
Also Rhaenyra suggested Aemond be tortured after that happened. I would’ve gone bat shit after that too. And if it was any other kid that took aemond eye, his eye would’ve immediately been cut out. It’s a normal punishment for those times, especially because it was the kings son who was harmed.

@@tsubaki.3500 I do think that when Alicent first asks for the eye was more impulsive and she would not have done so in any other circumstance. It was more for show and because she was angry. The same way Rhaenyra asks for Aemond to be sharply questioned but does not actually mean to have a child tortured (seriously some people have not watched the show appropriately), just for Alicent or the greens to fess up to what they've been doing. Alicent was justly upset and hoping for punishment. Given she knows how permissive her husband was with Rhaenyra it also makes sense she asks for the most severe punishment if she believes she will have to bargain down and settle to have any punishment at all. However, when she sees that's exactly what was going to happen, that is nothing, she did give in into the impulsivity and wildness. I personally thought it was appropriate. I don't think she would have gone for the eye on full though as that could have been easily fatal too, but she was angry and kid could die with such a wound still. No one around her loves her in a manner she can feel and appreciate. Her husband loves his first wife still and uses her as a broodmare, her father loves her mother more and uses her as a tool to control the king, her children she worked so hard for and has a hard time relating to are kind of her only thing she can hang onto, the only hope for something better.

i think it has to do with how deeply insecure aemond really is and aegon still bullies him now
@kledi381710 күн бұрын
a lot of aemond characterization is just him trying to make up for always being made fun of when he was younger. like hes the useless 2nd born son who has to make up for being “unimportant” and bullied by being a great fighter, intelligent etc. I’d say him getting bullied when he was younger drives a lot of hus actions. This is also touched on in some conversations in season 2 btw. Alicent said something along the lines of “have the unjustices in your youth not been sufficiently avenged” or sth like that.

As cold as it sounds, Aemond vs Lucerys WAS just a spat between a second son vs a second son, when both Aegon and Rhaenyra had alternate heirs. The common people won't care as much as their family, especially when it's all political maneuvering by the rich they hate anyway.

between 35:36 and 37:21 wouldn't the king be referring to Jon Snow because his real name is Aegon Targaryen and surly not Aegon the Conqueror. cause the king also referred to the song of ice and fire a lot while talking about the prince that was promised Aegon ( aka Jon snow ) and this takes place during Game Of Thrones with Jon snow.

1:01:00 That whole daemon choking Rhaenya scene never made much sense to me, nor did it to the actors Matt and Emma. It was known that the show had a writer who hated the character of Daemon, so they did everything in their way to ruin his only likability (his love for his family, especially his wife). There was a deleted scene of Daemon hugging his daughters after their mother, Laena, died, but the writer decided to delete it.

@T3ddyD7 it makes sense, he’s a groomer and someone who has killed one of his wives before. It makes sense. Abuse is also very common when it comes to incest. Also, the actors didn’t say it like that
@T3ddyD79 күн бұрын
@@rhaelicent Sure, he's a flawed person, but so is every other character. The main problem with that scene is that it was poorly written and wasn't needed, and both actors did say they didn't understand the scene, so technically they did say it like that.
@rhaelicent9 күн бұрын
@ there’s a difference between a flawed person and a groomer who has abused others before. He was the same in the books too, I don’t know why you’re trying to paint him as this hero who was ruined by the ‘stupid writers’, when really it’s who he’s always been if you took off your rose tinted goggles. I’d be fine with you liking him if you admitted this, but instead all of you defend him and act surprised when someone who is in an incestual relationship with someone half his age, who he has seen grow up and who killed one of his wives and married the other when she was 16 (& didn’t allow her to go home when she asked AND ignored his kids), is, in fact, abusive. It’s not out of character not a surprising element in the least
@T3ddyD79 күн бұрын
@@rhaelicent I'm not wearing goggles. I love Daemon's character, both in the show and the book, but just as GRRM described Daemon as morally grey and flawed, I describe him the same way. My problem isn't because he is a bad guy; it's because how awful the writers are at handling a complex character like Daemon. Daemon is definitely the most interesting and best character in FNB, and the writers don't do him justice; they legit made him kill his wife. Book Daemon still does bad things, yes, but it's just unnecessary to change He has like 2 likeable things about him, but the show gets rid of them completely for no reason. I'm not defending his actions but his character. That whole choking scene was awful from a writing POV and wasn't necessary at all. Why defend bad writing? Also, Book Daemon was described as a hero.
