Thanks for the update! Yes, 60 years of embargo has achieved nothing, except to make the Cuban people suffer. Ending the embargo would let Cuba to produce more cigars I think since they will be able to import much needed parts for agriculture and fertilizers, etc.
@themrmaiorca6 ай бұрын
Will they really be able to raise production ? Or will the prices go up even more with the American market coming into play ?
@ferdinand_WS5 ай бұрын
the embargo doesn't stop Cuba from importing parts and fertilizers etc. They can import that from every single country in the world except the USA. A lack of funds stops Cuba from importing, and that comes due to the failed political system. The political system makes the Cuban people suffer, not the embargo. For a big part, the embargo worked in favor of Cuba. It made Cuban cigars and rum a forbidden fruit, it made Havana a time capsule which is great for tourism. Sure, no American tourists, but more international tourist due to being a time capsule. Without that, Cuba would look more like any Caribbean island and not be that special to visit.
@neiltupas44635 ай бұрын
@@ferdinand_WS any financial institutions, whether they are US based or otherwise that does transactions for Cuba are sanctioned by the US because of the embargo and the fact that US put Cuba on the SSOT list. Banks don't like getting sanctioned by US since US is a bigger customer for them so no banks is willing to process transactions for Cuba. Cuba cannot access financial services internationally and as a result cannot import anything from other countries. Heck, Europeans who visit Cuba are automatically removed from having Visa free travel to US and need to apply to enter US when normally they don't.
@ferdinand_WS4 ай бұрын
@@neiltupas4463 ever heard of China, Russia, Vietnam etc etc? And if Habanos can export cigars, they can just as easy import fertilizer. Export also means financial transactions, they don't give the cigars away for free. So your statement that they cannot import anything from other countries is simply not true.

There are mountains of obstacles in front of them, not just steps 1-Their prices are unusual for the American market, very high, there is no competition 2-FDA Regulation 3-Full strength Cuban cigars are considered a medium strength New World cigar 4-They will be taxed the same as Russian and Chinese products

I read an article in Cigar Aficionado August 22, “After the Embargo”. It described full hotels, cruise ships, a thriving tourist economy. At that moment I realized not only the South Florida Cuban Exiles but also those invested in Florida tourism will never accept the competition. Not to mention other Caribbean tourist economies and New World cigar economies. The lobby for no change will be strong for years to come.

So if the embargo is lifted how does that effect pricing and global inventory? Next, because of limited harvests due to weather and after effects of COVID short staffing... when would crops increase to support the demand globally? Will that also effect pricing??
@habanonews15 күн бұрын
Fair question. If embargo is lifted the US market could take a big chunk of the production. if production is doubled to previous levels the question to ask is if Habanos is going to roll standard production cigars or high end expensive ones in fancy boxes. It is unclear what strategy Habanos is leaning towards

Just a question, where and how do I report a bad box of cubans that I a friend of mine bought on the duty free in Dubai
@habanonews6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately there are disappointing boxes. When you buy them in a shop you can share you experience with the shop owner. What I suggest when experiencing a bad box is to put it aside and age it for at least a year. Usually it get better.

Thanks for your reply. I checked on the LA Casa Del Habano Website if the box was authentic, and it was. But I tried sending them an email and they did not even have South Africa as a country under their countries. I could not send the email. Is there perhaps another contact email you can refer me too. Thanks Laurent. A purely selfish comment I know.... I agree, the removal of the US embargo will be a disaster for the rest of the Cigar world. Supply will not be able to keep up with demand, and the obvious consequences will follow. How was that Petit Corona? I have been smoking the Bolivar PC recently.... sublime.

thank you for this comment. I spoke to the co-president of Habanos about it and they believe that they could get a market share of 20% of the US market. The only issue is that it would represent 80m sticks when Habanos only makes 40 to 50 m cigars a year at present for the whole world.

Thank you for the updated news. First the Montecristo Especial No1. Lovely to see as well, as these have not been seen on the market for a while. Second, let’s hope this embargo changes, as Cuba is not doing very well with this embargo, as USA has put tough restrictions with a banking system, whoever deals with Cuba in US dollars. Which they have to as the US currency is not recognised anywhere else in the world. These small changes are a giant step forward for Cuba so let’s hope they come off the terrorist list as well. Thank you for a very informative video and update as usual.

Laurent: Very insightful post. You have an excellent perspective on the Cuba issue. What America has done to the Cuban people is wrong and it should be corrected. This is not about cigars. It’s about access to medicine, food and basic necessities that the Cuban people deserve and that are heavily impacted by 60 years of American politics.
