The end of the world - Skeeter Davis - Instrumental cover by Dave Monk

"The End of the World" is a pop music hit song recorded by Skeeter Davis that enjoyed international success in the 1960s. It was written by Arthur Kent and Sylvia Dee. Davis recorded her version on June 8, 1962 at the RCA Studios in Nashville, produced by Chet Atkins, and featuring Floyd Cramer. Released by RCA Records in December 1962, "The End of the World" peaked in March 1963 at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 2 on the Billboard country singles, No. 1 on Billboard's easy listening, and No. 4 on Billboard's rhythm and blues. It is the first, and, to date, only time that a song cracked the Top 10 on all four Billboard charts. Billboard ranked the record as the No. 3 song of 1963.
Davis's recording of "The End of the World" was played at Atkins's funeral in an instrumental by Marty Stuart, and at Davis's own funeral at the Ryman Auditorium.

Hello Again, Dave! How REFRESHING to hear you doing justice to an old Skeeter Davis tune that goes back to around 1963 or so...Skeeter never got her due among the Country Music establishment out of Nashville back in her day. Too bad, because she was such an INCREDIBLY talented singer! I heard that Kris Kristofferson offered Skeeter first crack at recording, “Help Me Make It Through The Night,” but she turned him down.

Well I will show my age but I was at the Grand Old Opry the summer of 1976 in Nashville TN. To my surprise out comes Skeeter Davis in a beautiful dress singing this very song. It was chilling. Of course I then thought "oh she is a country singer, duh!". Very nice rendition check out Bill Frisells version on the Nashville CD.

Nice one by Skeeter Davis. If I were the guitarist, pianist, violinist etc I will PLAY a song that others don't do and I will popularize it. Many of us here wanted to listen "I Love You" in instrumental by Skeeter Davis & Bobby Bare but couldn't find anywhere. I think no one likes to play this song.
