I’ve never done an internship partly due to MH issues and simply needing the break to rest and recharge.. And honestly there’s nothing wrong with that if that’s what you need. On the contrary, I think its so important (but sadly undervalued) to explore your passions/hobbies that you may have neglected during Uni, spend time with family and friends, travel (if you have the means) or explore your own country and simply BE. You need rest to be able to show up for yourself and others 🙏🏼
@ma09872 жыл бұрын
It's okay to do nothing (career related) in your summer break! Rest is so important and an absolute wise use of your time! A few weeks away from my usual uni life always help me personally to reconnect to myself and get to know myself better.
@lucie73722 жыл бұрын
Would you ever consider using slow travel instead of aeroplanes for some of your trips? For example travelling by train across countries, when the means of transport are part of the travel experience it enables different experiences and adventures, allowing you to see the world in a new way. I’m sure you’ve talked about the environment and your love of plants in past videos, so reducing air travel which has an incredibly negative impact on the planet might be something you could think about? Treating it as an opportunity and fun challenge when possible? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! I hope you have a wonderful and restorative summer!

My darling! as a current MA student who has gone through dissertation writing allow me to share my experience. Pick a topic that is passionate/interesting to you, because you will be spending quite a bit of time researching, doing further reading you want to enjoy the experience rather then dreading every moment. Of course like every essay we have written, it is hard work and we do feel burnt out. But trust me the experience just fly's by and you will be incredibly proud of yourself once this is completed! And just enjoy your time girl! Just remember to keep re-watching your video on how to enjoy studying whenever you need that extra motivation as you have given us😊. But for the time being, enjoy your summer, reset and relax and spend time with loved ones and friends.

Ooh Jade! If you’re visiting Cambodia, I’ve got two places for you to visit in Phnom Penh. First is ‘Dine in the Dark’. It’s run by blind people and you choose a menu (i.e traditional, vegetarian, western) and you can’t see what you’re eating. The restaurant is completely black. It’s a really cool experience and I’m pretty sure the proceeds go towards their cause or for building awareness. The second is ‘bugs cafe’. Yes, you heard right. It’s a really cool cafe where they combine traditional Cambodian cooking and bugs. If you’re an adventurous eater, this is a super fun experience and you can pick something very mild or very out there, so there’s something for everyone. Also the store ‘friends’ is everywhere. It’s a charity shop that sells Cambodian wares to tourists and helps to raise money. Would highly recommend a visit there too!

Hi jade! Congrats on the end of the school year! Cambodia sounds amazing! Also, I can so relate to feeling a bit left behind when your friends have secured corporate internships at fancy places. But I think you are doing the right thing focusing on yourself this summer, because final year is quite intense emotionally and academically (dissertation!!!). While it is nice to have a permanent job secured by the end of your internship, I know a lot of people who eventually lost it from burnout or because they did not manage to get the required minimum grade because of some reason in their final year. It is an immense amount of pressure to put on yourself! So just do you, and take it at your own pace! Keeping your options open and focusing on getting through your final year, and then decide more calmly what you want to do with your life seems as good a plan as any! And also, this might be the last summer before a full time job, it will never come again, so enjoy!!!

I've thought the same thing about not working during summer break and this summer I am working 5 shifts a week until uni starts again with about two weeks off. The thought of it is kind of "why do I do this to myself" because once I'm finished with work it's right away travelling back to uni and start the new semester. But at the same time, it's nice for me to have something to do, earn money and can relax properly during my off-weeks and days off! I also don't work during the school year to focus on my studies, so I can relax properly during Christmas and Easter.

Most of this summer I will spend abroad. I am currently doing an Erasmus+ internship in Madrid which is amazing. I used to spend very summer of my life at home (with some vacations) surrounded by family and friends and now that I will spend most of my summer without them I feel a little sad. However I can't help but appreciate my time abroad and be thankful that I was able to do this semester abroad and learn about Spain's culture, meet new people and explore Spain's cities. So I know what I will be doing during summer, but I don't what I will do from September on as I will have graduated from my university. So I understand that not having plans can be scary.

London sounds exciting, but very hectic...Melbourne, Australia is also usually very hectic, but has slowed down since all the lockdowns we had...I went to Sydney recently and loved it. It felt like a very glamorous beach town, and all the people I met were so calm, happy and lovely. Ideally, I'd love to live in a rural part of NSW, as I think I've lived in Melbourne way too long! I also have two subjects left in my course this year, and then hopefully will move to NSW. :) All your travel plans sound so exciting. Thanks for your updates. :)

u speaking right into my feels. I study law in berlin and currently question it all. Throughout the last semesters i more or less only focused on my studies, which is fine because i love learning but i forgot to do things i loved in the past so i came to a burn out state as well and just left berlin two weeks ago to spend time in my home town with my family and dog and not do anything for uni, which is an absolute new thing for me and its not an easy one tbh but i just had to for my health.Just glad to hear we are not alone :)

For what it's worth (and it took me actually working in a school to finally understand this) I think that's why summer break is built into the school year, and I don't think anyone should feel guilty for needing it to rest. I've worked full time at an elementary school the past two years, and while I absolutely love it (and I wasn't even a classroom teacher, I was just a paraprofessional) I would get SO burnt out. At the end of this past school year, I was helping a teacher clean her room, and as I swept and saw all the accumulated dust and dirt, I couldn't help but think "This is how I feel." Part of me feels guilty for feeling so burnt out, since there are many responsibilities I do not have that certified teachers do, but then I have to realize that my job was also demanding, and just with my life's situation right now, I was not always able to get the time and space to take care of myself, so I was able to make peace with the fact that, while I could have certainly used some money from a part-time job, my current situation doesn't absolutely demand it, and I am comfortable taking the summer to just rest. Sometimes it doesn't always feel relaxing, and sometimes it feels like I am doing nothing, but it takes time to feel the effects. I'm glad you decided to make the choice that was best for you. ❤

I have experienced that people have become burnout because they work too much and stress too much and it takes a long time to get back. This is my suggestion: When you get back, you could for instance take some rest for instance one day a week to take a rest to recharge your energy. You could make mind maps to get an overview of the study and be efficient with the mind maps

I wrote about the vegan food and visiting a bear sanctuary there on my old blog, I don't think I can link here but if you googled vegan in brighton kosovo I'm sure it would appear!

Summer reccomendation: the hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust runs citizen science sailing trips around the hebrides (the islands off the west coast of Scotland) every summer. Its on a sailing boat and you spend 7-14 days surveying the whales, dolphins, basking sharks, seabirds and anthropogenic threats (creels, plastic, boats etc) in the ocean. Because of my degree I got to do 2 winter surveys and they were amazing, spending a week on the ocean, in remote areas, looking for wildlife, with lots of delicious vegan food! In the summer the waters of the hebrides are FULL of cetaceans (our resident orcas, and lots of Mike whales have been seen already this year!). The time on survey is divided between 'mast time' where you are looking for whales and dolphins, and the science station, where you listen to acoustics and record environmental data. Would really reccomend it as a burnout-recovery, nature loving, healing, fun trip (that's what it did for me at least). Also if you come to Scotland, basking sharks Scotland runs 1 day-week long trips where you can swim with basking sharks (they are plankivores so completely harmless) . I went last year, and despite not seeing sharks due to a freak heat wave, we saw >10 minke whales and well over 100 dolphins in a day, plus got to swim with seals! Overall, the hebrides are INCREDIBLE. Plus the treshnish Isles have massive puffin colonies which is a bonus

Dear Jade, I have been wondering for a while how you feel about the climate crisis and reflect on your carbon heavy lifestyle? How do you decide to take all the flights you are taking (sometimes "obligatory" for your studies") and to feature such a high rate of consumption in your videos, for example the Pret membership? And in addition to that question here's a tip for something you could do this summer: cycling trip, train journey, hiking holidays, all super fun things that are less straining to our collapsing ecosystem!

you sound rly bitter. if u wanna restrain urself to being in ur country and ur country only (and any other country that's in a close reach, which are probably like max 2), then fine, enjoy it, but don't shove those idea onto other people who are trying to expand their microuniverse. Ofc, the environment is important but you are gonna miss out on a lot if u decide to abstain from flying with an airplane.

Hi Jade, I know that you aren't looking into summer internships for this summer, but if you could give us some resources to find internships of any nature that would be great!
