It’s a huge shame this flew under the radar.

Predestination, Triangle, Otherlife, Dark City and Upgrade. Some of my all time favourite movies and they're all Australian.

the machine (STEM) won... RIP humanity... in hindsight it's so obvious, but you're just so invested in the movie, that it's hard to see the obviousness of it being all STEM's doing... along with so blatantly making Eron, to be the bad guy, which of course means he's not, as they're trying to make it so, tricking you of it though to be fair, STEM did respect and care for Grey, helping Grey get his revenge for his dead wife (aside from the one behind his wife's death, itself, STEM, lol) as well as gave him back functionality too (for a short time), and ultimately, gave Grey a true paradise/"heaven", eternal life with his wife (within his mind), and thus undid it's act of killing Grey's wife, bringing her back to life for Grey (within his mind)... where both of them will never grow old and never die, as well as having all of his functionality too (as it's all in his mind), being able to be with each other for all of eternity (so long as nothing happens to STEM/Grey's-body, which is very unlikely)
