I'd read somewhere that the drummer (Keith Moon) literally had to have his headphones duct-taped to his head to keep them from flying off during the show. Also was famous for chucking things out of hotel room windows (tvs, furniture, whatever....). Pete Townsend (lead guitar) gave us the 'windmill' style of playing guitar. Roger Daltry (singer) gave us the lasso twirl microphone. Brilliantly cool sound for sure. If you've ever seen a CSI episode, you've heard one of their songs as the theme.

When this gig was being filmed at Shepperton Studios for a movie by The Who called "The Kids Are Alright", in the studio next to where The Who were performing.....the film "Alien" was being filmed. The cast and crew of "Alien" took a break and went over to watch The Who gig live. They like the laser show at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again so much, they ended up borrowing the laser equipment from The Who and used it in the "Alien" movie. So the next time you watch "Alien", keep an eye out for The Who's lasers!

Roger Daltrey is the singer, Pete Townsend is the guitar player, John Entwistle is the bassist and of course, Keith Moon is the manic drummer!! Yeah, John Entwistle just chills off to the side but is a killer on the bass. Interesting tidbit: On the muppet show, the drummer, Animal, is modeled on Keith Moon. Check it out.

The Move sometimes trashed their guitars, but The Who did it so often and they were four BRILLIANT musicians! Amazing that they can play so well while jumping around. John Entwistle is so much fun to watch just standing there. Might be the best bassist in all of rock 'n' roll.

The Who was arguably the greatest live band ever! For more great live performances by them, check out their performance at Woodstock. Check out their live performance of My Generation on The Smothers Brothers Show. Pete Townshend suffered permanent hearing loss after Keith Moon put extra explosives in his drum kit. Bette Davis allegedly fainted backstage. Also check out their live performance of A Quick One on the Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus, and check out any live performance prior to 1978 of Young Man Blues. They have a LOT of other great songs you should react to as well.

When I first saw the Who in 1973, they had pretty much ended their smash the guitar phase that had dominated their early years. They put on the best concert I've ever seen and then did an encore after about 30 minutes of cheering. Pete smashed a guitar for us and then, after the neck broke, threw the body across the stage. That was the highlight, but it was the 2 1/2 hours of great music that made it a great concert.

Who Fan since 1978 (I was 8 years old, lol!)...my favorite band of all time! I will subscribe for more Who reactions. Keith Moon (AKA Moon the LOON) is the drummer...wildman, madman...best drummer ever! Drove a Lincoln Continental into a Holiday Inn swimming pool on his 21st birthday and got The Who a lifetime ban from Holiday Inn back in the 60s. Also enjoyed flushing cherry bombs down the toilets of hotels among other things! Held the record for loudest band ever...many, many great songs and performances...many mentioned in the comments. Opps didn't finish about John; he may be chill on stage, but, his other nickname was The Ox...because he was known to be able to out party everyone off stage and frequently got into mischief with Kieth Moon off stage. Roger Daltrey (singer) was known to be a fighter... he knocked Keith out and got into it with Pete as well. Pete Townshend (guitar) is a creative mastermind and wrote the majority if the Who songs...they are my favorite band and will always be for the rest if my life!

There is a vid where the drummer blows up his kit with a bomb. It was much to heavy so the blast and the stuff went all over the place, the guys in front had ear damage. Very crazy and dangerous but also very funny to watch. This band lived fast and hard, two of them already died of overdosis, or did to much rock and roll. Great band though.

The onstage antics of the Who overshadowed the importance/meaning of the lyrics at the time it was written. Reactors miss the message because they are busy being razzle dazzled. Too bad.
