I liked Prometheus and loved the design and background story of the Engineers (especially, them crossing paths with Predators and Xenomorphs) in the lore. I just wish Alien Covenant wasn't done so poorly. Great narrating on the Engineers. I hope you do Scar, Wolf & the AVP Elder Predators down the line.

There’s actually a lot of evidence that ties the Predators into the enigma of the Engineers and the xenomorphs. Anyone interested should check out the Fire and Stone graphic novel series by Dark Horse Comics. Very good read.

They didn’t just engineer humanity, they engineered a perfect paradise for their species. Their zealots protected that paradise through means of genocide (xenomorphs are bioweapons) to prevent any other species not aligned with the engineers goals from ever encroaching on their home.

the dialogue cut out from Prometheus when he woke up was pretty good, how the engineer saw the little lifeforms made from 1000s of years of knowledge, having made him a pissed off giant was pretty awful!Damon Lindelof should have stayed with tv writing!

@@johnbernhardtsen3008 If we looked at the deleted scenes, we could conclude that the Engineer was curious about the Humans, he only become Angry when he saw how Weyland treated Dr Shaw, in that the Engineer saw that Weyland had no care for what the others wanted and he was here for his own Selfish Reasons, the Engineer would realize that Mankind are still Selfish and Wicked, and they now can traverse the Stars and have Sub-Created Synthetic Life that has the ability to understand the Engineers language and use their Technology. At this point the Engineer had no choice but to carry out the Mission to eradicate life on Earth. We could ponder if this Engineer had Sabotaged the Mission, thus saving Mankind. But being awoken by Humans he realized that Mankind can not be allowed to carry on, especially getting their hands on the Engineers Technology and Knowledge. But with the Cut we got, then he was portrayed as just having a Hatred for Mankind.

It is a shame that we never got what RS had originally intended. But even the Plot prior to the 2015 work that became Alien Covenant, would not have ended well for the Engineers and Dr Shaw. The main difference being that David created something that doesn't look like the Xenomorph like we got in Alien Covenant.

Another theory is that there are two factions of engineers, one a creator and one a destroyer. This would explain the differences we see in the film, the latter being more militaristic and tech driven

I'm sorry but that theory doesn't make any sense. We are seeing the Engineers in two different timelines: In the opening scene we see the Engineers supposedly creating Humankind (we are not 100% certain about it but that's what the scene hints to) so we are talking about an event that supposedly takes place about 300,000 years ago. While the event that killed all the Engineers on the military base on LV223 takes place about 2000 years ago. All the differences we see (different space ships, different clothings etc...) are all due to their own progress. In 300,000 years the Engineers themself must have been going through a massive progress. It's still possible though, that not all the Engineers agreed to the creation of life on other Home Worlds as a form of self-preservation. According to some controversial leaked script, (quote) "they had ceased to reproduce altogether and believed they were on the verge of a...great spiritual transcendence in which they would abandon their physical form...and ascend into the ten-dimensional multiverse...". So they either were no longer capable to reproduce or they willingly decided to abandon natural reproduction and focus on spiritual enlightenment. The Engineers storyline is clearly inspired by the myth of the Anunnaki (the Gods of the ancient Sumerian religion); not all the Anunnaki agreed to the creation of Humankind, to some of them, it was an abomination. But still...that is not the reason behind the differences we see in the Engineers in the opening scene and the Engineers died on LV223.

⁠@@Planetestial you mentioned that the Engineers likely engaged in a large scale conflict with another civilization; the Yautja, perhaps? If so the Engineers probably would have used Xenomorphs as weapons against them. This would explain how the Predators learned to cultivate xenomorphs as well as revering them as the “ultimate prey”.

Well that was the designation for him in Prometheus, in effect he was the survivor of the OUTBREAK. After Prometheus we had Ridley Scott confirm that there are more Engineers. And even after Alien Covenant he had confirmed that there would be more Engineers returning in sequels.

What I find so funny about theses called creators of Humanity in this movie is, they look NOTHING like who or what actual Humans evolved from. Looks like somebody is still trying to create an idea how they wish Humans were created to look like them...But I just have to understand that this is just a move, created by someone, out of their ideas and imagination.

If this film proposes that HUMANS were created by the ENGINEERS, then what/who created the ENGINEERS. If the ENGINEERS just happened then why couldn't HUMANS just happen? Films like this just add extra unnecessary layers to human creation.
