It's so cool to see someone make a review on this whole series. I've come from growing up on reading Archie comics online, so finding anything about a whole different comic series of the blue speedster himself truly a gem to behold! I didn't even know what Fleetway was until I've stumbled into your channel! Love the vid is so long too! I'm so ecstatic! Thank you, man; from the bottom of my Sonic lovin' Heart! 💙 Edit; I can't believe Sonic stayed round (he looks funky from the back haha)?! Different zones for world building is such a genius idea! I love that there are different emeralds and why is everyone so damn cool!?! (Knuckles sounds like Batman!) The Chaotic (and basically everyone ever) are super fleshed out in Archie, really odd that you guys received the opposite treatment. Tho to be fair, Archie's story is NOWHERE NEAR as organized as Fleetway. This truly is amazing, thank you.

But the Super forms in Fleetway STC aren’t dark aspects or dark reflections of the character - it’s literally just pure evil energy. The Chaos Emeralds simply act as vessels for powerful chaos energy, and to draw evil out of the surrounding area. Super Sonic is totally unrelated to Sonic. They have nothing in common, personality wise. Super Sonic isn’t technically alive - he’s just chaos energy given form - and the less chaos energy he has, the weaker he becomes, and the less evil, because evil and chaos energy is just evaporating out of him, causing him to wither out of existence.

@@arc7375 I'd argue Super Sonic IS related to Sonic. Super Forms may not be a dark reflection, but they are the *opposite* of someone's personality When Captain Plunder and his crew used the emeralds they became peaceful hippies and when King Sonic used the emeralds he went from evil to good

This was such an amazing trip down memory lane. Thank you sooooooooooo much. Brought a lil tear to the eye. Trivia for you, I spoke to Johnathan Grey who inked the Archie issue of "HOME" where the Fleetway guys cameo'd and after the issue came out he got into so much trouble with Archie as they didn't have the rights to use them and he thought "oh it's sonic it shouldn't matter" and the legal team told him he could've landed Archie in a legal battle. that's when he found out about character rights 😅😂. However Ian Flynn talked to Nigel years ago and Nigel said you can have the Metallix and Ian was so surprised he was like...ermmm ok that easy 😂

Someone on twitter however has taken it upon himself to actually make one for himself and it looks amazing.

Really great little retrospective! I grew up on the Archie series, but this unique little corner of the Sonicverse has always caught my eye ever since I first encountered it on the internet later on. (Particularly Richard Elson's striking artwork and the unique spins on concepts like Super Sonic and Chaos.) Really wish it had lasted a bit longer, as I would've loved to see their takes on stuff like SA2's plot. (Though STC Online definitely does a solid job filling that void.) Regardless, it's awesome to have a complete rundown of its major plots and characters like this. Stellar work!

It's great to see this, it's funny how growing up in the UK I always used to think Sonic was a much darker series than Mario and I think it was because of the few issues of this comic I got, it helped that the boxart often had Robotnik with that similar look over here like on Sonic 2 where he's a giant head and hand floating over Sonic and Tails. Anyway this was great to watch through whenever I got the chance. I'd love to see you perhaps cover IDW as a whole in future in a similar way (I would say Archie but I feel like that would be way too big of a thing to ask for).

I sadly never got to read the comics as they came out as I've been around since 98 (sorry for making folks feel old with that) but I like a lot of people my age got into sonic thanks to my parents telling me about the game and getting me a plug and play megadrive when I was 4... Anyway fast forward years later when I got a ps2 and sonic mega collection plus I found the archie comics and really really wanted issues of it and asked my parents for them and when I couldn't get them I tried to Internet and putting in sonic the comic by accident I stumbled upon the UK comics and scans people had uploaded to the Internet and couldn't get enough of it. I managed to get a few comics over the years of sonic the comic but mainly kept up with archie and the idw comics as they release. I've had the pleasure to shadow Nigel dobynn at the moniaive comic festival years ago where John wagner, John mcshane and Alan grant were guests and it was so lovely to hear nigel's stories about the comic and the other series he's worked on. I got him to sign some of my comics he was such a lovely person. And one last thing I was down in Birmingham for mcm Birmingham convention and found a stall of comics where they had the idw graphic novels and was buying for a friend of mine's Christmas. He asked me and my best pal if I wanted to see the individual sonic comics and we both said of course thinking it would be the archie stuff or idw but the moment we saw it was issues of sonic the comic we both freaked out and bought one of the issue's from him and said he wish he had recorded our reactions to it.

I think what's interesting is that, in the Archie comics, Sonic has to live up to this title as the hero of Mobius, well in the Fleeetway Comics, It's sort of natural for Sonic. Because everyone already see him as the hero of Mobius. Plus I think Sonic in the archie comics seeing himself as the Hero of mobius as a title, seems a big egoistical in some degree. Because of all of the other Freedom Fighters that help take down Eggman also helps Sonic. But with the Fleetway Comics, that's not the case. Because yet again Sonic is natural for being the hero of Mobuis and he respects his friends efforts in trying to stop Robotnik well Sonic's is trying to stop him as well.

Me and my Brother used to collect STC back in the day, we started late from issue 162 until 216. For some reason our local Tescos stopped selling them, so we had no idea what happened when Super Sonic "became free" until years later. It never hit me as a kid that the stories after issue 184 were reprints, I did think it was weird how Jonny was killed off and suddenly brought back to life again. I am grateful for the reprints as they gave us a chance to read some fantastic storylines that we would not have read otherwise, but learning about the comics' history years later left me feeling depressed knowing that the original stories could have continued, it gave Sonic an edge more than anything else did at that time and I miss it tremendously! So glad it's still remembered with as much love for it as it did back then!

i understand that this video likely means that there wont be any more specialized retrospectives on fleetway sonic, but id love to see more videos done on it. after all, having shrter "bite sized" (relatively speaking, ofc) episodes would definately be helpful so you dont have to watch a 3 hour long retrospective for bits and pieces of info on specific topics, and it could allow you to dive deeper on certain ideas you had to skim over, like running over certain secondary arks, like descibing the full list of captain plunders adventures (including my personal favorite character, simpson the cat), or covering one of knuckles long arks, or going into detail over the complete eternity ring ark, and could allow you to talk about reoccurring characters like windy wallace, or going deeper into grimers full story, and maybe talking about minor characters that are just too interesting to ignore, like several one off goons related to robotnik and the cillains that filled in the power vacume created by issue 100. and honestly, id love to see you cover the complete stories of the other sega games, like the mad world of decapattack, or the strangely insane worlds of ecco the dolphin and shining force, and even the intersting stories of shinobi and kid chameleon. anyways, sorry for the massive comment, just a big fan of stc and would love to see more videos about it from you!

Honestly you need to do more long-form content because this video was fantastic 👏! I can tell you are extremely knowledgeable about Sonic The Comic, and that you put a lot of time and love into this video. Honestly I'm kind of surprised you were able to keep up with getting every issue of this comic up until the end of the Sonic Adventure arc! I'm an American, so I grew-up with the Archie comics, but didn't even know they existed until around the time Adventure released in the States. I collected for years after that, but could only get issues sporadically here and there, and never got to read much of the Archie comics as a result 😔 . But still have fond memories of our comic series, and I'm LOVING the new IDW comics. Been collecting the hardback compiled volumes, and excited for the release of Volume 4 of the IDW Collection this month 🥰 . Anyway, the Fleetway comic does sound pretty awesome, and was surprised that the story arcs seem close to what could be considered canon for the original games. And the Fleetway original ideas, like "Evil" Super Sonic were extremely compelling, as well. It sounds like Super was almost like a more extreme version of Shadow, in a way. What I don't like is the mistreatment of characters like Tails and Charmy, though. I probably would have hated this comic as a kid for that reason 😑 . But as an adult I think I could see past that now if I read them.

I've always loved Archie Sonic due to it being the one that I had at my disposal when I was young. I always loved that it was seemingly, free to do mostly anything tha tit wanted for a long time. Most of the people didn't play the games or anything and they were allowed to take the characters in many interesting ways. However, I've always greatly respected fleetway for the way that it properly feels like people that wrote it were actually fans of the media that was coming out around it. It just always felt good to pick up the various pages of fleetway I would run into on the internet all throughout my life. Seeing this video makes me appreciate what I always felt about the comic a whole lot more tho, as I can see there really was a ton of love put into the series, just in a wholly different way than Archie, IDW, or any other adaptation.

That's awesome! Even if you watch the whole videos the comics are well worth a read if you can find them online

Seriously, Why Is Archie Sonic more Popular Than Fleetway Sonic?
@cactusjuiceenthusiast16005 ай бұрын
My best guess (Besides it just being more accessible to Americans) is that it was the closest thing to a continuation of SatAm or at least those characters. Plus it ran for a lot longer meaning an entire other generation of kids were able to grow up on them

Just discovered your channel. Love the way you set up your lore videos and how you discuss it, it reminds me a lot of some Warhammer lore channels I frequent.

I’m pretty sure the Archie comic also has a fan continuation after it was discontinued, and I’m pretty sure it even takes place before the universe reset, so we get to actually see the rest of what happens during the Metal Sally arc. (Presumably. I haven’t read it yet so I don’t know that much about it)

1:14:50 "A weird and wonderful coincidence." I mean, runaway prince is a typical plot device. Makes sense that someone would take bees, consider that they're led by a queen, and simply insert the only bee character into an important role in the monarchy. It's not too surprising.

Fun fact: In Sonic the comic, it is stated that Beavis and Butthead is Sonic's favorite show. I'm not making this up.

the interesting thing is that the comic mentioned 6 time stones, when there are 7 in the game, I was also upset when the comic stopped doing what was known as the Q zone

I’ve just had a thought!! In STC - the chaos emeralds are vessels that contain powerful chaos energy, and also draw evil into themselves out of the surrounding area. When Sonic is infused with chaos energy, it creates Super Sonic - an entirely distinct entity made up of the stored chaos energy and evil. In the accident that created Robotnik, Kintober is also infused with evil and chaos energy. So does this mean Robotnik is the “Super form” of Kintober? And does this mean, as being comprised of chaos energy, that Robotnik and Super Sonic are technically the same species? That is to say; animated chaos energy given corporeal form? I’m retroactively now seeing it make sense why Robotnik was able to absorb more chaos energy to become all-powerful in the “Robotnik Reigns Supreme” arc and use the chaos energy so expertly.

05:10 I have those two books sitting under my bed, and looking inside them no definitive publishing date is given for either one. I did, however, write "This book belongs to Sarah McKinney 1P1" (The 1P1 standing for 1st year, Palace house, class 1) in the Sonic 2 themed yearbook, and I went from Primary school to High school in 1994. So, it's likely that one came out in 1994 (especially as there's a Sonic 3 review in it), and Sonic the Hedgehog Special came out in 1993.

I've spoken to Rich Elson, who did the cover of that particular year book. He mentioned that it was the first time he had drawn Sonic, so it would have predated STC in terms of production. When it was PUBLISHED, however, I'm not entirely sure, and may have been afterwards.

Im 15 years old but ive always enjoyed 90s video games a lot more than modern games especially when there are so many unique interpretations like fleetway sonic the comic or the illuminatioms Mario movie etc,
