While many tend to compare superheroes to the bronze-age, polytheistic mythical figures, very few actually fit that standart. It is more acurate to compare them to axial-age myths like the eight taoist immortals, or the legendary alchemists, as they are mostly ascended mortals who are aware of a greater, shapeless force or energy that permeates existence and gives them godlike power trough science or self-improvement. This is a common theme in a lot of modern american mythology.

Miracleman, for me, is the spiritual predecessor to Watchmen. Although Miracleman deconstructs the notion of the superman, as Watchmen deconstructs costumed crime fighters like say Batman or Green Arrow. It's a rather heart breaking story of a man who evolves into a god, all in the while forgetting his humanity and becoming something a little more...unsettling. It's one of Moore's works that I find goes underrated and I wish that weren't the case, as it truly is a gem and it shows a master learning his way into becoming a master. Thank you for making this video, there's not many deep dives into this series asides from yours and Troy and Dave's video on Imperius Rex. Although I will say that the electronic voice can be a little distracting, but it didn't bug me as much as these other people on here (I think they're being a little obnoxious about it if you asked me.) Great video, and this is also the one that made me discover your channel.

I just started reading the new releases by Gaiman and I am so glad that The Silver Age will be completed finally. I am just blown away by this story. There really is nothing like it out there in comics. I really hope Marvel lets Gaiman write The Dark Age too.
@finnianjoyce-velez8079 Жыл бұрын
I think it also says a lot about our relationships with literature both comic books in the first chapter and mythology in the third. Michael’s “this is my life dammit” illustrates the importance of comic books to their readers and the world as a whole. The stories we immerse ourselves in are inherently meaningful to us and have a power. He revisits this theme in their final brawl with kid miracle man, where they discuss all the ensuing mythology that was spawned from their fight. Even ignoring the abundance of allusions to classical myth there’s still a lot of substance to the way we derive mythology and craft stories about and to explain the world around us

Y'know, since Neil Gaiman writes scripts these day, he could easily finish the story, or adapt the whole thing and give it a complete ending to the sagas he was writing at the time through films or TV.

Alan Moore, not being credited? In the Marvel remastered stuff ... I dunno why he shouldn't. Though there is another work by this man that didn't get him his due. Well, two, yet one. Most would if they follow this stuff know he was not credited in the Watchmen live action adaption whatsoever. Then I decided to, on the KZbin, start watching the motion comic version. When the opening credits roll by, again, no mention of Moore there either. Seems like the companies that adapt his work really black ball him. They censor him, they n***** him as the Marvel comics do to that word.
@SoupedUpCustoms2 жыл бұрын
Alan Moore himself wanted his name be removed from the susbsequent reprints of his works especially the live action adaptation ones. He gave whatever amount of royalties he'll received to his collaborators/artists. He has this odd uncompromising principle.

Something like that might be fun, but I think this story needs to be seen in the medium it was intended for...and that's comics. I'd hate to see that happen to Miracleman, too.

Gonna go with marketing. I don't think Miracleman was an especially popular character during his time even if they were influential. They don't command the same kind of brand recognition as a more mainstream superhero character that translates into sales even if it is a great series.

Miracleman and Watchmen are technically stories from the bronze age of comics. Series such as X-Force by Rob Leifeld. Is the true poster mascot of the dark age. Not Watchmen.

I believed, video game series such as Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei, Fire Emblem, Ys, Dragon Slayer, Breath of Fire, Lufia and many more. All of these video game series fell like there trying to follow the influences of the likes of Miracleman and Watchmen. What would happen, if things end in an aftermath in a climatic battle between magic human beings would be like? Or what is about the purpose and meaning of human philosophy. Such as anti-war, corruption, identity, death, and rebirth. These series I mentioned here, came out from a Frank Miller, Alan Moore, and Neil Gaiman era.

8:40 This line is true. The Rpg video game genre. Does honor its past. And deconstructing and evolving it as new direction in media as a whole. Deconstruction and evolving concepts in media is necessary and true indeed.

I have mixed feelings with the new and old edition. On the one hand, I preffer the colours of the old edition, give the story a surreal point I really like; on the other, at least in Spain the original edition was... kind of crappy, with bad materials and come pages poorly printed. In the end, I bought the old ones because the shit-ton of """"extras""" Marvel put on the new edition was insulting. 18€ for 90 pages of comic and 70 of stupid interviews with Mike Anglo? Fuck off.
