The Epic HAED Diamond Painting Chronicles - Chapter One - How to Start A Giant Custom

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to start the process of a counted diamond painting. It will also explain how to order your blank canvas, and I show you how to get the calculator for drills, if you choose to go that route.
It is revealed what the Chronicles will be named here! Please bare with me as I have never done an instructional video before. So, I make a couple of mistakes, but I do correct myself a short bit later. As I say in the video, please let me know if this makes sense to you. If I do not explain something clearly, leave a comment and I will clarify here or make a new video if it is widespread LOL.

I learned so much from this video. I have several HAEDs for cross stitch, but I think trying one in diamond would be a good way to complete a HAED finally for me! Maybe it could even take less time than stitching it, perhaps.

This is what I have heard from others who have been itching to complete a HAED. Diamond painting is definitely faster than cross stitching so you should be able to finish one, eventually lol :)

The whitest white is DMC B5200. Next is BLANC followed by 3865 which is a little yellower. (Think of snow after a dog has urinated on it.) The actual color of The drills depends (just like DMC floss) on dye lot. Watch out! The newest 35 DMC colors are #1(which is not White) through #35. In the case of your HAED chart it says White on the color list go with whatever they send.

That is some great information! I have been asking that since I first got my color chart for my HAED paintings. I had so many different opinions and never knew for sure. I will keep this information in mind!!

If you search for new DMC colors for 2017 there is a list or the new 35 colors from 01 to 35. There is also a list for 2018 with more new colors. They don't give names, but another source says DMC 01 is White Tin, 03 is Med Tin and 04 is Dark Tin . 08 is Dark Driftwood from that same source which agrees with HAED's Christ Crucified by Valesquez which can be found on page 2 of Art of the Antiquities. I noticed that Some of the manufactures on AliExpress say they now have 477 colors, so I'm assuming they now have these new numbers as does my local needlework shop. Can you imagine doing that HAED Christ Crucified in a diamond painting?

I haven't seen that one! I know that there is like one HAED that uses ALL of the colors. Now that, I could not imagine doing. EEEK!

Wow this seems like a huge challenge, with so many things to think about! I’m a beginner to dp and have challenge enough doing the normal ones right now, but just for interest, do you think this works out more expensive/ cheaper or about the same as doing a normal custom?

I think it may come out to be about the same. It depends on if you choose to put the design onto the canvas and cover it with adhesive or not. Doing that costs a little bit more, depending on what you use for the sticky part. But for the size of this canvas and how many drills came with it, I believe it was actually cheaper than a regular custom. But, you have to factor in the cost of the design, if it was one you didn't already have, as well.

On the HAED website you can download just the floss usage section. You should be able to send just that instead of sending multiple files.

Thank you! It may have also been that I was sending from my phone since I was able to get more of the picture in a screenshot so that I was only sending 1 picture per page instead of 2. Maybe after you see my series go forward a bit you will be able to decide if you want to do one yourself or not :)

Yes, exactly. 100cm X 150cm would be the outcome for a diamond painting canvas.

Excellent! I have a lot of Precious Moments patterns I was thinking of doing but there are a ton of quarter stitches. So that would be a bit difficult.

I saw someone use a pill cutter and cut the diamonds diagonally, but I'm not sure I would even attempt that. Might just have to do them in cross stitch. I am working on one that was supposed to be a Christmas present last year haha. I got interrupted when I discovered diamond painting!

hey Doni i was wondering i am wanting to do a custom that calls for 100cm wide and 125cm high have you done one this big and can you give me an estimate of what it may cost? ive been trying from the sellers but they keep saying 30by30cm is what i need the stitch count is 400w 500h please help

So the canvas will have not any patterns printed on it? Assuming I using my pet dog photo, do they print the pattern on the canvas?

That is something that most diamond painting sellers can do. It is called a custom. That is different than what I am showing here. This is a blank canvas, used to do a cross stitch pattern, converted into a diamond painting.

Sorry think I may have miss out some parts of your video. So u saying u bought the cross stitch design from HAED and then u tell the canvas seller to print the design on?

You got the first part right. I bought the design from HAED, then I ordered a blank canvas and the drills from the seller. The HAED design has several pages included in it that has the pattern. So, I use the pages from the design, look at them to see where on the blank canvas to put each drill. Instead of the design being on the canvas, it is in the pdf file that I printed out. I plan to just use the pattern straight from the file as I am going along instead of the printed pages. Instead of it being a counted cross stitch, it is a counted diamond painting.

I think it depends on the seller. In my most current video I received a bag of 3865 and it is definitely Blanc. I will have to look again at my drills from my HAED kit to see if my 1's that I Got are more Blanc or the cream colored 3865.

Because the artists are compensated for each pattern that is sold with their work on it. Also, these are extremely detailed and I wanted to try every type of diamond painting there is to do. I wanted the challenge of the blank canvas. :D

you can under custom picture I did for a picture for my brother and his son, but she did it like this for the challenge I am gonna do it like this once I get paid I have two Haed i am going to do one for my mom and one for my sister for Christmas

Cross stitch patterns are heavily copyrighted. In the cross stitch world we don't even show a tiny portion of the charts in videos because of this.

Stitches to Stone Diamond Painting are based in Australia. I recently saw a post from them saying if you told them which HAED pattern you have that they could figure the canvas size and all the stones for you. They would then give you a price. I have ordered from them. The store is based in Australia, but the warehouse where everything is shipped from is in China. HAED is an awesome place to get patterns.
