Today we discuss the shield of faith and the helmet of salvation in Ephesians 6:13-17. In 2 Corinthians 11:1-5 the helmet refers to a mind controlled by God. See also Eph. 4:21; 2 Pet. 3:18. The helmet protected from Satan’s attack. When some churches take people in they fail to provide with the helmet of salvation (2 Tim. 2:2). The Word of God is compared to a sword because it pierces. Heb. 4:12; Acts 2:37; 5:33; Luke 22:47-51. The sword of the Spirit does a better job than a physical sword. See the example of Moses: Exodus 2:11-5. The physical sword pierces the body, but the sword of the Spirit pierces the heart. The sword of the Spirit has its oun power. Heb. 4:12; 11:6. It is impossible to please God without faith. Lk. 4:1-13. Satan can also quote the Word of God, Lk. 4:10, but does not quote it correctly. You can prove anything in the Bible if you take things out of context. Jn. 14:6; 2 Cor. 5:21; Eph. 2:14; Gal. 2:20; Lk 2:30; Jn. 1:1-14. When we trust Christ, we receive the armor. Rom. 13:11-14; 2 Sam. 11. We must never be without the whole armor of God. WE need to know how to use the armor God has provided us.
