I've been building furniture out of black pipe for 10 years and I have to say this is one of the coolest pieces I've seen yet. I will definitly be building one of these for my office area. Very cool

Nicely done.. what did you use for the legs to allow them to move up and down?
@researchandbuild17515 жыл бұрын
I think you should mount the jack sideways. That bolt is just asking to clip off your kneecap

Super, you need to tag this view because I have been searching for this for days. I have been rolling it around in my head and could not picture it. I was actually thinking it needed to be one of the (what is known in the business as the windowmaker) jacks, the one-sided ones., so it wouldn't be in the way. But that looks like it has plenty clearance. You could even sit it further away, favoring the far side of the table. As the weight of the monitors would balance it.

how sturdy is this? I am thinking about this for a workbench.

Is there any kind of support/locking mechanism for your four corners? I want to build something similar, but I'm worried the jack is supporting all of the weight in the center and that could lead to tipping on the corners.
@AlexKosenko-q1g7 жыл бұрын
I am worried about locking mechanisms as well, especially considering that I want the jack to be placed at the back, not in the middle, for more leg room. What did you come up with?
@DomAviationChannel6 жыл бұрын
Depending on you materials it shouldn´t wiggle ... worst case scenario is to weld a nut on the outer strut and use bolt (preferably a bolt you can screw in with your hand) to hold it in place

How is the jack connected in the middle? Is it welded? What is underneath the jack that attaches to the pipe? It would be awesome if you could share the dimensions and how it was assembled. Thanks!

yes that will be great if you can share some more details on how you assembled it.

So I make tables as really just a hobby out of electrical wire spools; I’m an electrician. I found this because I was thinking about using pins nd threaded rigid pipe like you used but what’s is the leg system there? Do they just slid between each other cuz one is 1/2” and the other 3/4”? Curious 🧐

Same question as Daniel below. What do you do about the four corners and locking them down? Doesn't the table pivot or wiggle without locking them?

Wow, that's brilliant. I wish I could figure out how to somehow do this to my existing desk. It has 6 legs because there is also a shelf on the right side, and I wish I could get the whole thing to lift for standing.

Question: your desk is empty. What happens when you try to elevate it with a lot of objects above? I work with my cintiq tablet, monitor, keyboard: it's at least 8kg of hardware. Does the drill work anyway? thx
@DomAviationChannel6 жыл бұрын
Why should´t it? Worst case scenario is to use a stronger drill or do the old fashioned way by hand ...
@theartoframos4 жыл бұрын
Those lifts are made for cars to be cranked by hand. A drill has more torque than your hand I believe. So... Not a problem

if you have used a proper electric desk you would know this desk would drive your mad by second day. If you going to be spending lots of time at your desk, fork out the money and buy a proper one. A cheap DIY,,, you will just end up going to buy a proper one sooner or later anyways.
