xiliveforexo yea.. being exposed to multiple languages delays language development. My guess is the mom has the intention to have them enter school elsewhere. Sam Hammington instead focuses on Korean because he wants them to have stronger Korean identity and live in Korea.

Well I can speak German, English and Vietnamese from small on. They will just need to differentiate it a bit more so that he can learn to actively decide which language to choose.

Tuongvi Erika he doesn’t need to choose a language. He can speak all of them. That’s why Anna speaks to them in German, their Korean family speaks to them in Korean, and their Spanish part speak to them in Spanish. As a native Spanish speaker it’s obvious that their Spanish isn’t as strong because they’re not always around Spanish speakers and why their Korean seems to be the strongest. TL;DR they don’t have to choose a language

Naeun’s first language is German, they lived in Europe when she was a baby (I think), her father was at games/training a lot so her mother spent the most time with her. With Gunhoo they live in Korea, and thanks to TROS their father gets to be around a little more. Gunhoo babbles in German, Korean and if you listen very well English In the first episode they’re in their mom tells us ‘Eden speaks German, Spanish, English and since April she’s been answering in Korean’, a child learning multiple languages at once will have a harder time developing their languages skills, especially a non Indo-European language like Korean. Chances are like his sister, and especially now that they’ve been in Europe for a while without their father, Gunhoo will pick up German and then follow that up with Korean.

multilingual children usually feel more comfortable talking in only one language for a while, but there is nothing wrong with that. I was the same; I'm now fluent in german and english and have started to learn korean a few months ago and am already at conversational level. Its lovely to see gunhoo and Naeun grow up; such lovely siblings

I've said this before and I'll say this again. Exposing a young child to 2 or more languages does not cause confusion in learning a language at all. This is a common misconception and has already been debunked by recent research. If bilingualism did cause any delays in learning a language, don't you think majority of the world's speakers will be affected? 🤔

@@opaleye927 Finally someone who gets it too. The benefits of being raised multilingual are IMMENSE on so many levels. Studies have even found that multilinguals show signs of dementia approximately 4 years later than monolinguals. Children aren't confused, they understand perfectly!!

Plus studies show that learning two or more languages as a child helps in developing task switching skills, attention, inhibitory control, and theory of mind so basically factors needed for “learning”. So how can learning two or more languages as a child cause confusion if being able to concentrate on a task better or even process the stimuli provided by the environment (i.e. verbal commands or even new concepts for vocabulary building) is the basis for good language learning? :)

@@opaleye927 Absolutely. The benefits of it during childhood and advanced age make up for having a little less vocabulary in each language. Plus, sure, they have slightly less fluency on each of their languages but when combined they have MORE vocabulary than a monolingual in their one language. I don't think I'd love living in the US (when it comes to this topic) because it seems people there have a misconception about multilingualism due to early studies not taking economic status into account when studying bilingual children, which lead to them having poor results compared to monolinguals from richer backgrounds. I'm so happy to find people who agree on the subject! :)

I think gunhoo blabbing were really influenced by naeun. Unlike naeun who clearly have different people to teach her different language, gunhoo got the language mixed up since naeun speak all of them with him.
