You are missing a major criticism point. Being against the ESG label is not necessarily being against its ideas. The problem with ESG is that it is a non-standardized label and thus just confusing the more conscious investors. This is a deliberate situation as most companies prefer it this way since it allows for “green” washing their activities. ESG needs an internationally recognized standardized certification granted, controlled and enforced by independent institutions. Furthermore, there needs to be different ESG classification as the focus can differ from ecological, gender, social and other “norms”. The term ESG at the moment is utterly pointless devoid of any clear meaning. Without fixing the mentioned issue ESG is nothing more then just a marketing tool to fool the consumers.

@@ogChaaka, meh. That’s not correct or funny - even if it’s obvious there is no reference worth its salt that would present that. 99/100 rating for developing countries, where almost all can’t yet measure ESG correctly. That makes no sense.
@physe8052 Жыл бұрын
What happened to Sri Lanka had little to nothing to do with ESG. The first major problem was decades of systemic financial mismanagement by the government, saddling itself with tremendous foreign debt. The second problem was the collapse of the domestic tourism economy thanks to covid. The loss of tourism revenue meant the government now had even less ability to handle the interest on its debt. Finally, the president decided to immediately ban all synthetic fertilizer imports. The rationale was not utopian or progressive, but instead simply economic. Given that Sri Lanka is heavily dependent on agriculture, if the country could minimize imports related to that industry then it would maximize net profits after exporting it. In theory not necessarily a bad idea. The problem was there was no industry, infrastructure, or any kind of scalable system in place to replace the lost fertilizer, either synthetic or organic. The agricultural industry wasn't given enough time to effectively transition. ESG was only even mentioned as a way to attract more foreign investment.

I agree. Wrestled with this loop myself. Problem is, I don't trust government because of lobbying, incompetence and corruption. Corporations prove they can and will dictate the free market and are utterly destructive to societal balance and the environement. Publicly elected officials in government have proven to be immeasurably corrupt grossly incompetent. As we've seen from elections throughout history, and even recently, the people are incapable of effectively making good voting decisions. Especially consistently. There has never been a happy and sustainable society governed by a Military. Academic Institutions are proven to be too stupid(despite average intelligence), corrupt, incompetent and easily influenced to govern a nation. With our options covered, where do we go from here? Thats where I'm stuck. An endless loop of incompetence, corruption and violence as options Edit: I don't believe the West is a free market capitalist society anymore and hasn't been since the early 90's. Between ESGs, the central reserve banking system, corporate lobbying of our politicians and a very evident push from all angles to destroy culture, gender and religion, I believe we are a Limited-Free Market Corporatist society.
