Great tips. Your color mixing chart his how I first learned to mix watercolors 😊So helpful! Glazing is an awesome way to correct a color or add shadows.

What you are calling "contrasting colors" is also referred to as "complimentary colors", isn't it? Assuming I'm understanding you correctly. My color wheel shows red & green, blue & orange, and yellow & violet as complimentary colors. Forgive me if I'm out of line here. I am a total amateur at watercolor, but I have watched a lot of videos here on YT, and many of them are about color mixing.

You are absolutely correct! Adobe has a colour wheel which allows you to create colour palettes with the contrasting/ complementary shades. So pinkish browns with green golds etc... you can get so into matching various shades on the app, and then trying to recreate that with paint. It’s so fun that I could sit all day just mixing colour palettes 🎨

I have a question about color mixing, maybe you have done a video on this but I can't find anything about it, anywhere. I am wondering how to handle paint on the palette. If I am mixing a yellow and a blue to find a hue I like, can I load my brush with yellow and then dip in the blue right away (possibly getting yellow in the blue) or do I need to clean my brush each time? I am working on color theory, so mixing my pure warm colors and cold colors eeks me, but if it is the way of the watercolor I am down. Just not sure about best practices? Or maybe it's personal preferences? I don't know...any guidance would be greatly appreciated. And the more I think about this, maybe it's obvious and I am too rigid, but I wanted to know your thoughtd.

What order would you suggest watching the watercolor for beginners playlist? Can I just hit play and it's ok or should I watch the color wheel first then color mixing etc etc

Just bought your books, brushes and paint. I started reading tonight, and I find the videos you do, along with the book, help engage my brain in a complementary fashion.

Wow Jenna so so much helpful info. Concepts that I've never heard describe in the same manner that you described them, e.g., the relationship between distance and the primary colors. I do have a question; you talked about using gray to mute a color. You described using a cool gray or warm gray. How would you mix those? Thanks Jenna for your wonderful work…you are amazing…I don't know how you do all that you do!!!❤

I love mixing greys! Basically use the colours that you have in your sketch to create the muted grey that you need! Jane Blundell is like the PHD of mixing grey! She even had her own Jane’s grey which is just ultramarine and umber. If you’re really into colour then I’d recommend you check out her blog article; janeblundellart.blogspot.com/2017/01/all-that-grey.html

I’ve never used pyrrole orange, but my pyrrole red is my favourite for mixing an indigo 👌
