Good stuff Justin. Easy to over ration as I learned. I'm sure you are going to have a cracking trip with lots of ups and downs just like my Valencia trip. The sailing is the easy bit and with a following wind you will get a good start. Then it's all mental after that. I'm sure I'm teaching granny to suck eggs but divide the trip into sections and reward yourself after completing each. (How to eat an elephant, one mouthful at a time). Think tactically about your sleep. Try to be in credit for the busy sections near the TSS and once in the ocean catch up on your sleep debit. I found it was much easier to bin the main when the following wind got up. It's slower but much easier and once you grow accustom to the Holman roll you can tell from the bunk if something isn't right. You're a far better sailor than me so I expect this will actually be a breeze for you but let's not Jinx anything. Lastly as I said on Facebook, don't forget to enjoy it. I found that the moments when I could let go of all the "what ifs" and just be in the moment were priceless. Fair winds. Dave

I just bought an all glass Twister here in NZ. The English owner sailed it out here tio NZ in the 90's. I have been reading about how they are a pig to steer backwards under power - and here you are in a marina, bow in, and you obviously managed to reverse out and not cause too much carnage doing so, on your way to completing a successful Jester challenge. What is your technique to get out of marina berths such as the one you are in, in this video?
@SVRoquetta2 жыл бұрын
Twisters don't enjoy going astern and to port. You n ed to really understand and master prop walk. Also, a slight breeze in the right direction can make you look like a boat handling god. Decide not to move the boat until conditions are right, or you've got enough competent people around. The marina at terciera was tricky, the isle was about 30 feet wide and I had to either reverse all the way out or go astern and to port. I just waited for a slight breeze in the right direction and it was no problem. Practice somewhere before you need it 👍. She'll be a real pussy cat once you learn how to do it

@@SVRoquetta Thanks mate. Sailing her from a mooring to a marina berth next week. I am also contemplating mastering the art of swinging her around in her berth using warps. Either way, practice practice practice...

Thanks for great video. What is yoyr boat type and size? She is looking long keel boat? And quite roomy inside?
@SVRoquetta2 жыл бұрын
She's a twister 28. 28 feet long and a fully encapsulated long keel. Easily enough room for one 👍

@SVRoquetta2 жыл бұрын
@@janisspalvins677 yes, UK made. It's a Holman and Pye design. Twisters are known for being fast in all conditions. How fast depends on the conditions and the sailor 😁
