This video teaches the story of the "road to the revolutionary war"- how taxes and tyranny led to the outbreak of war. The video starts with the end of the French and Indian War and how when Britain ended salutary neglect it transformed the relationship between the colonies and Britain. From the Stamp Act, to the Sons of Liberty and the Stamp Act Congress, boycotts and colonial resistance- the colonies began to slowly unite in opposition of Parliament and King George III. It teaches the Townshend Acts, the Boston Massacre, how Crispus Attucks was the first casualty of the American Revolution. Then it covers the Tea Act and how Boston Tea Party led to the Intolerable Acts and the First Continental Congress. It closes with the Battles of Lexington and Concord and foreshadows the war for independence that followed.
Full lesson plans go with the video- interactive notesheets, a quick quiz, and an extension lesson where students create an illustrative- 'point of view' timeline of the events to the Revolution- comparing how Britain and the Colonists viewed each event differently. Engaging and it builds historical thinking skills!
There is a full US History I video curriculum for 5-8 grade and US History II video curriculum for 9-12.
