The evolution of audio recording roughly parallels jazz history, so Episode One provides a retrospective look at how far we've come from soot and wax to digital files, and for some of us is a trip down memory lane. How many of the devices shown in this video did or do you own?
ABOUT THIS SERIES
The Jazz History series is a video adaptation of a PowerPoint presentation used to teach a university course. It traces the roots of jazz from Ragtime at the turn of the 20th century to jazz-rock fusion at the end of the 1960s. You’ll find a lot more videos like this one in the JAZZ HISTORY playlist on this channel.
If you want to learn more about the nuts and bolts of playing jazz, check out the videos in the
JAZZ TACTICS playlist.

@@chasesanborn I know my way around the subject, but it's nice to revisit and to have something to recommend to beginners. And I have gaps, too, so that will be nice.

It's a thought experiment to contemplate the state of digital files a century from now.

The phonograph was invented by un-named inventors who sold their pattern to Edison. Who took all credit for it, as well as many other things.
