What's your favourite gravel bike of the past decade?

The Sputnik Cera - their bikes just evolve each year, like the Porsche 911.

The most thorough itemized overview of gravel bikes, with historical context and perspective, which I have seen. Thank you very, very much.

It seems the Kona Rove is sometimes forgotten as one of the first gravel bikes. Nice to see the Rove get a mention here. Really nice video.

Why does the Genesis Croix de fer always get forgotten? It was available in 2010.
@DaveAtkinson3 жыл бұрын
true, even earlier than that: 2009 was the first one. it was pretty classic 'cross geo back then though. from 2011 it got a bit more relaxed, so yeah, deserves a mention!

Surprised that in a video about "What's changed in gravel", there's no mention of handlebars. Especially when you get a venturemax on the bike :D

"gravel bars" are really just a repackaging of the randonneur bar which is a century old design.

I am sure that Genesis Croix de fer would have been around. Poor research.

All the specs you rattled on about geometry tells me cyclocross bikes are faster. I have a Ridley cyclocross bike and it's okay using it for gravel rides. A lot of videos I see posted about gravel bike rides people are using them on terrain more suited for cross country bikes. That is why we are starting to see suspension forks and seatposts being designed for them now. Your spot on about what it is, it's a movement. A dumb one at that. We already have cross country bikes. And they are faster too. My Cannondale F700 is a perfectly great gravel trail bike. But hey, maybe I should go buy a gravel bike to keep up with my friends? Not going to happen.

like i said, it's a spectrum. and there are definitely rides for which a gravel bike is the perfect bike. but you don't 'need' one, no...

the dirty reiver is definitely a gravel event, and i did that on a 'cross bike, and that was fine. except for the part where i was sick in a hedge. but that wasn't really the bike's fault.

It's kinda an old hat that just now experiences any sort of big popularity. Bridgestone and Grant Petersen were building bikes based on that concept in the late 80s and early 90s. They called them "fireroad bikes"
