If i also recall, they were also the only species that had a positive relationship with humans as business partners and traders before the Covenant ordered them to go full crusade on humanity. @luked75253 ай бұрын
Makes sense considering the time frame of the game. After the war and so much cross-species contact, it would make sense that ONI or someone would develop some sort of translation system.

it makes more sense for when the enemies call each other by their slang names in reference to their species, instead of their native names (Kig-yar to Jackal, Unggoy to Grunt, etc.) which would be strange if we consider the humans to be the ones to give them those names during the war unless they all just adopted the names over time.

A fun fact about Halo Wars is that it's one of the few games with a Jackel can wield a Carbine or Beam Rifle with a shield. And it's the only one where they do it without weapon swapping from the player. Jackels really had the craziest history with how much they were changed between each game and how many highs and lows they had. The Infinite design is amazing while the Bungie designs will always remain in my heart. And I'll always love the Jackels when we hear them speak our language, which, if I remember correctly, Jackels can't pronounce the letter F, which if you listen to them speak, none of their lines have an F in it. A little fun fact there about the Jackels and how they speak.

I think them speaking a human language is really representative of their pirate/mercenary survival tactics. Humanity conquered the covenant they knew, and stopped the Flood - learning the language of their "enemy" would allow them to be hired or work alongside that powerful enemy. Jackals can be petty, but they can also recognize who is more of a threat to them, and therefore snuggle up to, or have a way to get their foot in the door.

Only just finished up the Halo 2 part but just had to say the editing on this video is nothing short of excellent also it's simultaneously frustrating and impressive that Bungie made some the most detailed, varied, and interactive enemies in a game and 20 or so years later not many games can still can't seem to beat it.

I always preferred the Jackals speaking in something I couldn't understand, although it's funny to hear my enemies panic when I stick them with a grenade or their taunts if I die. There was just something cathartic about hearing the wild barks and squaks of the Jackals as they chatter to one another in formation, like the Hunters growling as they try to corner you. Made the Covenant feel like an alien army, and that languages for even their own can very despite them all being in the same military

it felt like I was the only one who genuinely prefers the Jackals not speaking English. I just feel like it strips away something about them I always liked; their dialect. it sounds much more alien than even other races (outside of reach's covenant) and it also made them so distinctive. now I sometimes rarely confuse them for grunts.
