THE EVOLUTION OF KPOP (FEMALE) | 1997 - 2019

K-pop is a genre of popular music originating in South Korea. While the modern form of K-pop can be traced back to the early 90s, the term itself has been popularized since the 2000s, replacing the term Gayo, which also refers to domestic pop music in South Korea.

I found out about kpop when I was in japan for a family visit and I remember hearing h.o.t warriors I believe that's what it's called and btw I was like at a young age and I really liked the song and I remember asking someone in my family and they told me and literally I remember my mom getting the CD for me even tho the lyrics were "inappropriate" and I remember first seeing 1tyme and that's what made me just fall in love with YG artists.

However, the groups that I mentioned above were the ones that made K-pop just pop on my continent, that is, I consider them the revolution because they reached an audience that not even Europe's music managed. I am not saying that the groups you mentioned were unsuccessful or not good, but in my country Korea was not even mentioned before. So you have every right to speak from your perspective and your own vision. But in my opinion, those I mentioned broke down barriers and that's why I consider them to be a revolution. There are other male groups too, but I mentioned the female groups because they were the ones mentioned in the video. But there are many extremely talented groups and solo artists who have broken barriers here too, for example Hyuna. But I just didn't feel the need to quote them.

I feel like the new gen of kpop gets no recognition for their efforts. I mean, look how kpop has evolved! A lot of you may say kpop is bad now and before it was legendary, but that’s probably because you enjoy the sound of second and first gen more, it doesn’t mean that whats being created now isn’t just as good, it’s just different and recent. You older kpop fans may enjoy older music but I joined the fandom in 2019, it made me kinda sad seeing these comments and thinking, I missed kpop, now it’s not good anymore. But that’s not true. Kpop has evolved, new amazing songs are being released and more and more artists that weren’t from the big three are getting recognition, such as mamamoo. Many kpop girls are stepping away from the conventional cute and sexy and trying things they feel comfortable with. I think that the third and fourth gen deserve recognition too, it’s ok to reference the good old days, but don’t put down the new gen.

I love all gens actually, but if you compare the older generation to the new ones it seems like most things are really perfected. Idols have more freedom to produce now, but other types of freedom choices such as speaking opinions or interacting is very calculated Whereas in the past idols were not afraid to speak their minds even if it means risking their careers.
