Thank you for this video! I've been searching for one to show my middle school art students. Most of the other videos will bore my students to tears!

The world's first existing woodblock print was found in Korea. This is "Durumari" woodblock-printed "Mugujeonggwangdaerani Sutra", published around 751. "Jikji" is the oldest metal type print in existence, and this is also a Korean heritage. It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on September 4, 2001 in consideration of its contribution to the development of human history due to a significant change in printing technology. "Jikji" was published in 1377 in Heungdeoksa Temple, Cheongju.

Earliest woodblock print was found in China, not Korea. The earliest extant example of this type of printed matter is a fragment of a dhāraṇī (Buddhist spell) miniature scroll written in Sanskrit unearthed in a tomb in Xi'an. It is called the Great spell of unsullied pure light (Wugou jingguang da tuoluoni jing 無垢淨光大陀羅尼經) and was printed using woodblock during the Tang dynasty, c. 650-670 AD. A similar piece, the Saddharma pundarika sutra, was also discovered and dated to 690 to 699.

Yes that should definitely be mentioned in the video. He also brushed through the first invention of movable type by China in early 1000s by Bi Sheng using ceramic types, upon which Koreans improved and replaced ceramic with metal. Clear Western bias.
