@@fredarsenault8987 I didn't talk about that in this video. But that was probably 40 years ago Bad Brains and HR himself has changed since then. He was in his 20s and it was definitely different times then. Not saying it was right then either but people's minds were in a different place. I know because I lived in those times.

Magnificent musicians who produced THE most outstanding hardcore punk release - the ROIR cassette, which bizarrely doesn't get mentioned here. Punk was always anti-establishment, yet the Bad Bains did photoshoots in 1983 holding the bible and would start their live shows with nonsensical rants about Haile Sellassie being the 'King of Kings and Lord of Lords' . Instead of promoting the idea of abolishing royalty and elitist positions, the Bad Brains invited their audiences to bow down in deference to ' His Imperial Majesty ' - yet another privileged ruler. I always found this to be a massive contradiction in their message - and I never understood how the punk community blindly tolerated this claptrap. Haile Sellassie wasn't a living god, he wasn't 'Jesus Christ - second coming' - he was just a wealthy emperor who was forced to flee his throne and live in exile in the UK. This doesn't sound like an all-powerful deity to me. " Got a right to live my life, with no burdens over me, so I choose to read the holy bible... " . Such a massive contradiction. The meek shall inherit absolutely nothing - they never have done.

Taj Singleton was only a touring vocalist, Israel Joseph was the vocalist on Rise. I don't know much about Taj but I'm a huge fan of what Israel did on Rise and with his other band Fireburn. He might not have laid the foundation of the Bad Brains but he was reliable, did the classic songs justice and was absolutely the right guy to front the band during the Rise period. HR was great back in the day but he was too unpredictable and suffered from too many mental health issues. Bad Brains really shot themselves in the foot when they dismissed Israel.

I saw them probably a dozen times, I was at the CBGBs shows shown in this video. They were good from 84 to 87, after that HR bugged out. Now theyre kind of dated

Chuck Treece was one of the most prominent musicians in Philly throughout the '80s. Check out his band McRad - I still listen to them now. That guy could do anything.

Chuck is dope! I saw him drumming for the Brains on the Rise tour at The Fastlanes in Asbury Park, NJ in ‘94. I saw his other projects as well: One called Black Beans and another one called Supergrub (with Ben Kenney from Incubus long before Ben was in The Roots and Incubus).

"Punky Reggae" from Bob Marleys 'Punky Reggae Party", BB were a band I came to from a compilation tape in the early 80s, as brutal and aggressive as the DKs with the subtle lyrical style of the more challenging socially conscious reggae, 'Jah War' with a little less Jah and more War! I've been a fan from the UK since 'Pay to Cum', the track I originally heard. A band truly ahead of their time.✊

No props to Sid!!!? Sid McCray was actually the Bad Brains first singer that turned Daryl, Gary and Earl onto the heavy metal and punk sound in which they speed up their music with precision raising the bar for punk rock musicians who at the time were only playing Ramones like 3 cord punk creating the "Thrash" & "Hardcore Punk" genres. HR replaced Sid because he had a wider range in vocals however he was not a fan of punk rock - especially the with the associated moshing where kids began stomping the shit out of each other - that's why in the later years HR would stop singing while the band was killin it as the pit grew more intense. Up until recently, HR has been randomly touring with his Human Rights reggae band
