I find it astonishing that this long after WW2 it is still possible to find huge amounts of viable ammunition and munitions, and on occasions viable firearms, together with bayonets, helmets and buckles and insignia. Countries have thrown away incalculable amounts of money on equipment abandoned unused by their military forces!
@jaxflfreebird

It took decades for bodies to rot away. So many people were lost in wars and not that many people wanted to go play in graveyards digging around where they might get blown to bits. There is a very real chance of DYING just digging these bodies up. There are missiles, hand grenades, landmines, just everything in the world to put you in your own grave. These old battlefields can be deathtraps. You can't run a plow over a field filled with live ammunition, hand grenades, etc. These people must surely work at their own peril doing something they enjoy. It doesn't make is any safer though.

I mean the war ended, they did not need that huge ammount of millitary equipment why would they waste money and manpower (when they had to rebuild whole countries from 0) to collect all that stuff? There are literally places where they left tanks behind because it was more expensive to move them home then to leave them behind
@felixcat9318
@felixcat9318 2 жыл бұрын
@@lothbrokragnar838 I'm not referring to the armies that own the abandoned equipment, but am surprised that in the time that the equipment was damaged by abandoned and now, no one had taken stuff! Invariably, anything abandoned gets taken by whomever gets to it first, and its surprising that after all these decades, huge amounts remain to be discovered.

I think, if they find stuff on public land, all items belong to people who find them. On the other hand, in Russia it’s not allowed to have weapons.
