Not surprised that it's a well-made machine. Exidy made a lot of good arcade games in the 70s. I like the dark plate insert that visually isolates the keyboard. It's a nice touch which breaks up the monotony of single-color cases that a lot of (even good-looking computers) tend to have.

I know! It's an incredible machine that I would absolutely love to get my hands on in the future. Regards, T.W.

It would have been so great if i would have had one of these when i started high school, but that would be nearly impossible for my parents at those prices and the machines limited capabilities. We really do have it good these days.

From what I could figure out online, in 1978 an AUD pricetag of $1,340 would convert to $1,577.72 USD, and inflation calculators show that $1,577.72 in 1978 would have been worth $7,587.28 today. 😐 *goes to live off-grid somewhere*

The crisp and clear high res graphics and 64 column text display was probably a good trade off against a low resolution color display.

At the time I would have thought so. But then, I was in my 20s and argely using computers for data processing, recordkeeping, accounts and Word Processing. Had I been a teenage gamer, I'm sure I would have felt differently. (:

There was'nt a Dick Smith's near where I lived, so I always went to David Reid's. But in 1988 I was driving to see my girlfriend when I saw a Dick Smith shop, so I popped in. The staff were rude, pushy and not helpful at all. So I took a dislike to the company completely after that.
