I honestly predicted this would be the ending of episode 3 about 20 min into episode one. I haven't read the books but we knew the threat and about 20 min into episode 1, I connected that with the fact we only got 3 episodes out of the gate and knew they would make that the cliffhanger. LOL

I assume Delgado's chuckle when the professor asked for bourbon implied that Earthers don't give a sh*t what their enemy drinks. Or perhaps that they don't see Martians and Belters as enemies. Most Earthers we meet don't have this "Martians are bad" and Belters are bad" (with few exceptions, i.e. Errinwright, Nguyen, Murtry, ...). Martians and Belters on the other hand, they can't go 5 seconds without saying how much they hate each other.

"Stay with me." God, Cara Gee owns my heart. Such a beautiful performance. Drummer really hadn't a break since we met her, did you realized? Shot by the mutineers on Tycho, had her leg and some of her spine broken at the Behemoth, almost died trying to shut the ship and stop the station from destroying everyone, manipulated by political games at Medina, and now she knows what she feared the most, that her friend is dead and the man who killed him is on the loose because of her. My heart breaks for her. And if you think about it, she is kinda following Fred's advice to Holden: She has a nice crew, someone(s) that loves her and that she loves, and is trying to make something to herself. But deep in there I know she is not going to just abandon the fight when the rest of the rocks start to hit. Also props to you Kat. Hadn't noticed Drummer sleeps with eye liner until you pointed out.😊😂😂 I hope that if Dawes appears this seasons he is still played by Jared Harris. I know that he has been busy with many other projects, but he owns the role and they can't just recast him like they did with Arjun and not expect the fans to get mad. Thomas Jane made a phenomenal job with this episode. One of the best on TV this year. And the next will be even better❤❤❤❤❤❤. Great reaction!

The scientist that Avasarala and the Admiral consulted greatly underestimated the yield of the explosion, because he assumed that they were talking about a natural asteroid moving at regular orbital speeds, not something that's been super accelerated by a ship

@Maylevka May I did some back-of-the-envelope calculations based on information in the show, and the speeds mentioned in the books and landed on an equivalent explosion of ~500 Megatons of TNT, which is a big kaboom.

The mention that Marco had been a slingshot pilot plus the close passage of Rock 9 to the sun suggest that he achieved extra acceleration by slingshotting the rocks around the sun. The ninth rock appeared to have been making the closest approach to the sun, thus traveling fastest although the last launched.

@@kirkdarling4120 You can't accelerate anything by shooting it around the sun, you need planets because you are accelerating *relative* to the sun. You could have noticeable acceleration if it rotated insanely fast like a neutron star or a black hole (so utilizing frame dragging).

But the point was to _not_ be noticed. Using an Epstein drive to push each rock up to a nice fraction of the speed of light would (a) take weeks, thus giving Earth plenty of time to react, because (b) the drive plume would show up on an early warning scope like a neon sign, thus negating the advantage of the stealth composites the rocks were coated with. The whole idea was to have the element of surprise. "The Earthers will never see them coming."

As theories go: the end of the joke is not told but it's there nonetheless. The guy that enters is an Earther scientist and he just orders bourbon because Earthers don't give a shit about Martians or Belters :) Among the many punchlines proposed by the fandom the one I like most is "The Earther comes in and orders recycled piss water because he too likes to drink like his enemies" :)

iirc, Drummer doesn't play a huge role in the books, but the writers of the show liked her enough to give her a bigger part. I think Gee/Drummer would be a no-brainer for a spinoff when this series is finished.

So for a little context on the explosive power of these rocks the atomic bombs used on Japan were 15 kilotons and 21 kilotons respectively and we know what kind of damage they did. If you do the math 1000 kilotons = 1 Mega ton, so if we go with the higher number 4 mega tons(since it was artificially accelerate probably an even higher yield) that one rock was almost 200 times more powerful than the 21 kiloton bomb used on Japan. If we go back and look at pervious episodes one of the rocks was expected to produce a 21 Megaton blast. Yikes, the earth is in big trouble!!! Anyone look at the sign on the beach to get an idea of where that rock hit?

Well, you can see Earth from the perspective of the asteroid just as it enters the atmosphere, and by looking at certain geographical features and the intro of Episode 4, it hit off the coast of Dakar, (Senegal) West Africa

Mother Earth has a living avatar and her name is Chrisjen Arvasarala. On a separate note....1st thing after she learned she was paralyzed from the waste down, Drummer put on her eyeliner in S4. Sleeping with make up ... not an issue ^_^

Depending on how they're adapting this and the next book (which have closely related plots), there should be at least one notable event involving Dawes sometime during this story arc. But between Chernobyl and The Foundation, I'm not sure if Harris will actually have the time to film Dawes' role for the Expanse. As far as the aftermath of Marco's attack: it's important to remember that that the asteroids he's throwing are less than 100m wide, while the one that hit at the of the Cretaceous and killed off the non-avian dinosaurs was closer to 6km wide. Now Marco's asteroid are hitting a bit above their weight class because they've been accelerated by fusion drives and deliberately slingshotted into Earth, but they're not going to be comparable to the end of the Mesozoic. More like several large volcanic eruptions occurring at once; which would still have a huge influence over Earth's environment that they'll hopefully get into during later episodes.

Haven't you figured it out? Drummer's makeup is tattoos! As for the consequences of meteors... similar to a nuclear winter. The first rock also made for a super-tsunami (and would have vapourized a great measure of seawater, making for a toxic cloud) as well as displacing massive amounts of substrate rock. Just one rock would be a cataclysm. Three is extinction level.

Nemesis Games, the book this season is based on, is probably my favourite - it certainly was when I first read it. This ending floored me when I read it, because I figured there was no way they'd add such a fundamental paradigm shift to the setting, and have Marco actually succeed in striking Earth. I wasn't surprised by the reactions of Filip and of Naomi's old crew. To them, "Inners" are monstrous abusers, and her abandoning her son to defend them, eventually dating one of them, must be in their minds, and with the hatred they've internalised, tantamount to her dating a nazi. It's a sad story, and one to which I hope the show will do justice. Small detail: It's rare for a show to have good representations of polyamory, or any form of ethical non-monogamy, especially when the show's not about it. I love James S.A. Corey, and the show's producers, for having added that into their world. Plus, it makes sense for belters to have large clusters - easier to share resources, and support each other, with several people involved. As the old meme goes: "Monogamy? In this economy?!??"

On another note, Marco is yes a charismatic talker but it's a footnote to remember that he also develops plans that have a high success rate then goes futher with plans that have only a 50% success rate and multiple plans that dwindle down to only a very low success rate. But always claims success so that makes him look like a genius! That's is what his manipulation is and what he is good at. Naomi saw through that early in her life and why she left

I don't know if the show is going to address the joke directly, but I think it was going to go "the Earther points to the Martian and says 'I'll have what they're having.'" I think the context of Earthers being their own worst enemy makes sense, at least. The set design this season is so impressive. And everything else is as intense as usual... so I guess we're all just in a state of constantly bracing for impact for two months, huh? :D

The joke thing is a tv and movie trope I think. Someone starts a typical 3 people walk into a bar and right before whoever is telling the joke gets to the punchline someone interreputs them, leaving the audience wondering what the fuck the puncchline was. I saw someone write that the Earther orders an Earther drink because he considers other Earthers as competition and not Mars and the Belt. Fits well with the theme of them being blinded by their own might to the point of underestimating Marco Inaros (remember Marco's speech in Ep 1) and it coming back to bite them in the ass in epic proportions. Fits also with Nancy not listening to Avasarala because she was her old rival and she wants to show that she's the one in charge now.

Marco and Filip are the most abhorrent characters in the book and the TV series. I absolutely despised them both. Amos had a horrible childhood but he did not become a mass murderer. Marines beat Navy, enlisted men beat officers. Navy officers shouldn't be initiating hand to hand fights. It's not their job. Marco Inaros is a fascist rather than a revolutionary. He's explicitly making it about geography and nationality rather than about class. The Belters are overwhelmingly working class. That's the basis of their exploitation and oppression. The companies of Earth are using them to build their assets in the Belt and mine for minerals, uranium and water there for sale elsewhere, and pressing down on the cost of labour to the point where Belters lives are dangerous, unpleasant and short, and the UN military has been crushing every strike and workers' uprising within the Belt on the companies' behalf. But rather than build solidarity with workers on Earth, Inaros and others have turned their class struggle into a struggle for geographical political independence, with Inaros adding the goal of military supremacy. Obviously Earth is a different political situation altogether, with most people unemployed and depending on Basic (a UBI) to survive instead of on wages or salaries, which makes it much easier for Earth's bourgeoisie and rentiers to keep them depressed, disorganised and lumpen, and thus effectively lock them out of political representation, because very obviously the UN elections are controlled by Earth's rich voters. So there is no salvation or utopia coming from Inaros or even a more moderate Independent Belt, because like most independence movements, it's going to pave the way for a local oligarchy of the rich, not a classless society. Or an outright fascist dictatorship if Inaros has his way.
