Naomi figured out they had put the code on the Roci everyone is dropping hints at her through the episode. After Naomi mentions the Augustin Gamarra, Karal says "And here I thought we would be refreshing your memory." When she tries to assassinate Marco, the Rocinante is on the screen there. When Filip drags her away, he says she should be thankful that he saved her life in a tone that implies he's talking about her abduction generally, since he doesn't know about the assassination attempt just yet. So Naomi knows something is up with the Augustin Gamarra code, she knows they're paying attention to the Rocinante, and she knows her life was in danger if she hadn't been brought to the Pella.

I'm pretty sure Fillip saw the knife and knew that Naomi was going to try and kill Marco. He also knew that she would be dead if she either succeeded or failed. His comment about saving her life while most likely referring to the Roci and her kidnapping meaning she wasn't on it, could also have applied to that particular moment of him saving her life from her assassination (of Marco) attempt.

Noami's desire to find Filip was inspired by her time spent with Lucia above Ilus. This is why she reached out to Fred at the end of season 4.

Well, she had first posed the issue to Fred back in season 1, and was shown still mourning Filip even in episode 3 of season 1. But I'd agree the experience with Lucia would have put a point on it.

Marco sees himself as Alexander the Great. Interesting characterization, right?
@Reedstilt
@Reedstilt 3 жыл бұрын
One of the reasons he likes to compare himself to Alexander that doesn't get as emphasized in the show as it does in the book, is that he values Alexander more as an Empire-destroyer than an Empire-builder. It's the same reason he has a portrait of a nameless Afghan soldier in his quarters in the book - to commemorate Afghanistan's history as the Graveyard of Empires.

Alexander manage to continue his campaign after Persia and it takes planning and vision. Marco's plan looks to me be far less thought out. I mean, the bloodshed would undo the much of the goodwill Fred Johnson built and will continue a cycle of hate against all belters. It's not like he can wipe every inners out. Earth and Mars still have their fleet, missiles and everything. He threatened them with the protomolecule but that's just replacing one oppressor with an entity that treat all human less than ants which is far worse. If he used the protomolecule on the inners, that thing is not just going to stay there. Look at Venus.

@Cbricklyne
@Cbricklyne 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Especially given the fact that the actor who plays him is called 'Keon ALEXANDER' in real life, but even more for the fact that while Alexander the Great defeated the Persian Empire at Gaugamela, Keon Alexander himself is actually of Persian (Iranian) heritage in real life. But for the purposes of the show, it's a terrible comparison because Alexander the Great was actually a military genius with many military victories and campaigns. Marco has just launched an attack against mostly civilian targets and hasn't defeated the militaries of either Mars nor Earth who still remain the Superpowers of the system despite Marco's attack, and also despite his attack, Earth, especially, still possesses the capability of wiping out every single Belter in the Belt in one attack. He hasn't defeated a military enemy. He's merely provoked them.

They cant really outspeed the missile, because they aren't limited by the max speed or acceleration of the engine, but by what they can survive, meanwhile the missile doesnt care about that. At least that's my take on that :)

Missiles/Torpedos can hit max speed instantly, any human ship needs to build up speed much slower to not kill its passengers
@Cbricklyne
@Cbricklyne 3 жыл бұрын
This is correct. That's the reason why missiles are still the primary means of attack in the Expanse universe. You can't outrun a missile no matter how fast your ship is. The people in the ship have an upper limit on how many g's they can survive before stroking out, while missiles have only the limit of their drive engines and no life support to worry about.
@Cbricklyne
@Cbricklyne 3 жыл бұрын
@@pepe_marroquin The mass has nothing (or little) to do with it in this situation. For one thing they are in space and the assumption has to be that the ship (or missile) has enough thrust capacity in their Epstein drive to carry the maximum mass they each respectively hold And being in space and in zero 'g' (or microgravity) means they're not fighting against the gravity of a planet (i.e. their mass) nor the air resistance of an atmosphere in order to gain acceleration like would be the case on the surface of a planet (where the mass would matter more). If anything, the larger mass of an object (assuming most of that mass is fuel) would be an advantage in outrunning a missile that has limited mass of fuel and ordinance (explosive material) IF either of them didn't have to worry about maximum g's (that would kill humans inside and which missiles don't have to worry about) because the larger mass (fuel) object theoretically would have the capacity to sustain a high 'g' burn for much longer. The limiting factor in this situation is the fact that humans can't survive a high 'g' burn beyond a certain limit before they stroke out and die.

@@StopReadingMyNameOrElse Torpedos dont realy have a max speed (unless they reach a good percentage of lightspeed). The Torpedos can accelerate with a speed of like 30 G and humans would die (even with the juice) at that accelleration.

This is one thing that did not translate well from the book. In the book, Holden is suspicious and does go over the Roci but doesn't find anything. I think he was looking more for mechanical sabotage. A book reader with a better memory than mine might be more exact about that but the point is that he didn't just blithely get ready to fire up the Roci until he checked, but the code was deeply buried and it wouldn't have been easily found.
@thontor

They did show Holden going through an extensive pre-flight system check that they had never shown him performing before. That was our hint that they were doing things differently. Was there a practicaly better option than the Roci's own Martian military-grade AI to do that check? Probably not.
@Cbricklyne
@Cbricklyne 3 жыл бұрын
They wouldn't have found anything. The sabotage was in a software algorithm hidden in the ship's code which only someone with Naomi's skills would have spotted by going through the ship's AI and OS software code line by line. It's doubtful that either Holden nor any of the (mostly mechanical) techs working at Tycho were looking for sabotage in this sort of circumstance. It's why Naomi's code was so devastating as a weapon to use (and ultimately why Marco used it), because unless you knew exactly where to look (and how), you'd never find it. The show did a poor job of showing that Holden had already actually gone through the ship's mechanical and physical systems and found nothing.

We're all human, we're all one people. There are no enemies, only different factions of the same coalition. "They were people, and they were on his ship, so they were his people." -Bull, Abaddon's Gate You're all my people, now. Everyone here on earth, everyone among the stars. 1:00. Alexander's tactics basically resorted to "you think I'll be defensive and cautious when faced with enormous force, but actually I'm going to "yollo" it and hope for the best." Alexander charged off with his cavalry towards the east, with the intention it would draw away the majority of Darius' cavalry enough to open a gap large enough to reach Darius himself, as Alexander rightly assumed taking out Darius would cause his massive army to collapse into chaos, as they viewed their king as godlike. While Alexander didn't end up succeeding in reaching Darius, Darius did panic and rout from the field, and when his troops saw this, his army basically broke and ran. So in the end, Alexander's strategy, while initially failing, ended up succeeding through Darius' own actions. Gaugamela didn't end Greek independence, though. The Battle of Chaeronea largely decided that (and that was several years before Alexander was even king). Memnon of Rhodes (who actually came the closest to defeating Alexander) came very close to inciting a rebellion against Macedonian rule, which would have forced Alexander to give up his invasion and return home to quell it, but by a stroke of luck for Alexander, Memnon died during the siege of Mytilene. Memnon was probably the most effective commander against Alexander, and had Darius' satraps been more willing to heed his advice and strategy, Alexander might not have enjoyed the unparalleled success that he did end up having historically. Marco seems to forget though that Alexander was a great conqueror, but a terrible administrator. He didn't appear to have any vision for establishing his empire for the future, and went from one conquest to the next without taking the time to properly think of administration or even how he would be succeeded. When he did eventually die on the way back home, he's famously quoted as saying "to the strongest" before dying (although this is likely a retrospective romanticism). Whatever the case, we do know he had never named a successor, which inevitably led to his generals fighting amongst each other for control, each believing Alexander would want them to succeed him, ending up with his empire fracturing into the Diadochi states. And the rest is history. So really, Marco should probably take some notes from history and make sure he's not just setting up the Belt to inevitably collapse after he's dead. XD EDIT: If you got this far, interesting little tid bit: if Alexander had survived his trek home, he was in the process of having a massive fleet built and fresh forces raised, with plans to expand west, with his eyes on Ancient Carthage. If this had taken place and he had survived long enough to personally lead this campaign, he very likely would have encountered Rome before the rise of the Republic. Assuming he wasn't defeated, he could have stopped the rise of Rome before it had a chance to happen, leading to our history being very different than what we know now. Interesting to think about.

An interesting dynamic of this show is how easy it would be to not give a damn about the other factions- think about it. We manage to dehumanize each other by race/culture/nationality on just ONE planet, imagine the distance between Earth/Mars/Belt. For example, remember how coldblooded Avasarala was with that Belter she was torturing at the beginning of season 1? And how hostile the Martians were with the Rosi crew? This is how they've been for GENERATIONS. The Rosi crew stands out because they are some of the few in this whole situation who have been through hell ALONG SIDE of people from other factions, and they've become like a family. Even with Fred Johnson, he seems to be highly respected mainly by the Belters close to him who's respect he's earned, other Belters like the rest of Drummers crew seem indifferent at best because they have no personal reason to see him as different from another Earther. Very few others have connected that much with each other (between different factions), so of course Belters who have had it the worse because of inners aren't gonna feel some typa way about something they will never even feel the negative impact of. To them, that's how the Inners have been all along (and unfortunately they're kinda right about that part). In contrast, Naomi is from a mixed crew and is in love with and Earther. I say all this to say, even if Filip wasn't manipulated his stance isn't that far fetched in my opinion. He's 100% Belter, like the rest.

that's a bit misleading. sure, the earth isn't "destroyed" but it'll absolutely be totally crippled for at minimum several years. millions died purely from the initial impact. there's so much damage to the earth we havent seen yet. a rock landed in the atlantic ocean and one in the indian ocean, sending tsunamis to nearly every single coast in the world. in a future where climate change went uncontrolled and nearly every single modern coastal city now has a seawall, tsunamis like that are going to kill millions more, and completely annihilate such a vast amount of critical infrastructure keeping millions more alive. not to mention one of the rocks landed on land, and we saw the seismic activity from that completely level a prison hundreds of miles away. it probably flattened the entirety of pennsylvania. Impacts like that also send up an ENORMOUS amount of dust into the atmosphere, and we know from history that even serious volcanic eruptions can cripple crop yields across the entire globe. several massive global famines throughout history have followed major volcanic eruptions disturbing the earth's climate cycle. the pure environmental catastrophe from the attack will take several decades to recover and continue to kill millions upon millions upon millions long after the impacts.

I have been a long fan of your channel, I hope this doesn't come across as attacking any of you, but you have to understand that this is a sensitive topic for a lot of people and what Navid is saying is true most of the world has turned a blind eye to what is happening in China as it does not benefit them to speak up. Some people look back at the atrocities of World War 2 and wonder we as humans could ever allow that to happen, now we know...

You clearly have no idea what is happening in China. If you wish to educate yourself, just go there and see for yourself.

Its an energy core reaction dump to shut down the reactor fast. Its pushing all the coal (reaction mass) out the exhaust. It just means they gotta restart the fire (the reactor) with new coal (reactor pellets) and it takes a while. Until then they on the float

She absolutely knew about the code. Her exclaiming 'Wait!' happens reflexively as she realizes that she was sitting in a room that probably gets taken out or at least depressurized by the explosion, her still being there wasn't a part of the original plan, 'See you when you get back' was basically her signing her suicide note for the Belter cause. She's the best example of the hate that Marco is fomenting in the show so far, and that's been a running theme from before Marco entered the picture, back when it was just Diogo's uncle and some righteous indignation, starting right from the Belter Lives Matter street preacher calling Miller a welwala in the pilot.

The reaction at Amos' suplex was awesome. :) Your comments about division of humanity into groups means you'll love the next episode, a lot. People become criminals because they're stupid, and/or lack impulse controls, and/or have a grotesque sense of entitlement because they think the world owes them something. Tiny wasn't stupid, but he definitely had impulse-control and entitlement issues. :) Wanna know what happens when society collapses? Read what Thomas Hobbes wrote in, "Leviathan" about the State of Nature. And you guys just identified the main subgenre, for this season of The Expanse -- post-apocalyptic survival sci-fi. :) Naomi put together everything based on things she saw and heard. A fun reaction, as always! :)

As of the end of shooting for Season Four, the case against Cas Anvar had not yet come to trial. However, the "court of public opinion" had already tried and convicted him and so the producers fired him rather than face the possible fall-out from the fans.

When Fillip told Naomi he saved her life he was referring to when he took her, because she would be on the Rocinante fixing to die. Thats when Naomi realized her code had been used on the Rocinante. Fillip never saw the knife. The knife was discovered after she knocked out Cen. I usually love your reactions, but tainting this show because one lacks the ability to separate actor from character is disappointing. At least keep those opinions to yourself. For those actions of the individual the show did the proper thing. The character should be recast. But the character is a viable part of the story. In my opinion. I can't understand why we can't just focus on the story. Everyone that works on this show puts all they have into it. They deserve better from fans.
