These are the original riyads. Damascus is older than Morocco, damascene architecture influenced Morocco's riyads. If I was ever going to build a house I would build it like a Damascus house! I love open courtyard houses grew up watching Syrian dramas so fell in love with them! So beautiful! Btw why didn't you show us the ceilings?

Unfortunately, the media publishes about Syria that it is a backward country. We as a people are very peaceful and we love each other. There are many sects in Syria, and also Syria is the most country in the Middle East in which there are Christians of various sects

WOW Absolutely stunning! 🤩I love the authenticity of the architectural style of these Damascene old houses.
These Damascene old houses are a true testament to the remarkable authenticity of the city's architectural heritage. Stepping into these enchanting abodes is like entering a portal to the past, where the Umayyads, in their flourishing reign, crafted an architectural style that would leave an indelible mark on the heartlands of Syria, with Damascus proudly serving as its capital. The allure of these houses goes far beyond the borders of Syria. The architectural influence of the Umayyads extended its reach all the way to Morocco and Andalusia in Spain, permeating the distinctive charm of Damascus into distant lands. Only those fortunate enough (I'm one of those fortunates) to experience the ambiance of traditional houses in Damascus, Morocco or Andalusia can truly understand the feeling of being welcomed home. It is an intangible connection that springs from a shared architectural heritage, a testament to the deep-rooted bond between these distant lands. Each dwelling boasts a central courtyard, the heart of the home, adorned with exquisite details that transport you to a bygone era. As you traverse the intricately designed pathways, you are greeted by the gentle melody of a fountain, its soothing sounds intertwining with the whispers of the wind. The interplay of light and shadow, filtering through the meticulously crafted arches and windows, paints a mesmerising tapestry across the courtyard. It is a sight that leaves you breathless, as if witnessing a living work of art. The intricate craftsmanship showcased within these houses is a testament to the ingenuity of the people of Damascus. From the delicate geometric patterns adorning the walls to the ornate wooden lattice screens known as "mashrabiyas," every element tells a story of skill and dedication. The rich tapestry of colours, textures, and materials evokes a sense of timelessness, making you feel as though you have stepped into a realm where the past and present coexist in perfect harmony. FASCINATING views of Damascus! Thanks for capturing these precious footages!❤

Hi Matthew; I loved the first hotel you stayed at. It looks lovely and intimate. I could literally spend hours in that little garden with a few cans of beer, lying on my back doing sod all. Just counting lemons and oranges in the trees above me amongst the stars in the sky. Anyway enough of this. I don't mean to sound like a pisshead but is it possible to get alcoholic beverages anywhere in Damascus/Syria or just in five star hotels? Also, and sorry for putting you on the spot here; for someone deciding to visit that side of the world for the first time; would you recommend a visit to Lebanon before Syria or vice versa?

That is completely not true. People like you destroyed that country. I remember that Syria in 2007,2008, and 2009 was a magnificent place until u decided to take back to the khalifat Stone-Age time. So don't blame the gov , blame your dark, closed mindsets. Even Joe Biden and Putin get to get their portraits everywhere in their countries .

We put his picture cuz we love him and support him against the terrorist war on Syria. We don't want anyone to deny our love for our president.

You are not thinking, you just let lying media corporations think for you.

You seem to be endorsing Bashar al-Assad's dictatorial regime! How valiant of you! However, the spirits of the martyrs who fell defending our freedom will not forgive you. Dance and revel in our land from which we've been deprived, but remember, a day will come when justice will be restored to its rightful owners.
